My trip to Brittens = less than 200â,¬ alltogether
A trip to Mittens = well over 200â,¬ for a ticket, plus the age-restriction of 18

There had better be a Karaoke bar near the campsite...

There better not be.  I'll drag everyone there every night!

In any case, I'm up for the longer stay.  It's hard to justify flying all the way to the UK just for a weekend in any case.

Me and my girlfriend will definitely come, and maybe some friends.
Does anyone know how much the bus ride from airport Stansted to the campsite is? Or much is bus riding in the UK in general?

Girlfriend, cool, maybe.

But can't you only bring friends if they're AGS folk?

We don't want a load of Non-AGSers showing up.

Unless they're girls.

And you can't even bring them if they don't like games.

Fact.

You'll have to check up with M0ds to see if they can come.

As for the cost of buses and whatnot, last time I paid for a bus in the UK was from London to Stansted, and it cost 8 pounds.

strazer

Thanks, 8 pounds is ok.

I can certainly understand that, but I thought since it's a campsite it would be ok. We were planning on staying a few days longer and visit London. We would be 4 people altogether (including another girl ;)).

m0ds?

scotch

I guess at Stansted you'd be meeting up with Hajo, another German who also flies in to there, then AGA and I will find you at London Victoria bus station (Stansted to Victoria bus was £15, return, £8 single, which isn't very cheap for a bus but nothing in central London is), we can lead you to the train station from there... I'm not sure how much the train from Victoria to Staines will be yet, probably less than the bus, then from Staines we need to take a local bus out to Laleham where the camp site is, which won't cost a lot.  So... not a particularly straightforward journey, but between us we've done it all before.

As for bringing people along... well with the people you plan to take we're over 25 altogether, approaching twice the size of a normal AGS meeting... it was a concern before but with three extra people, who none of us know, it's getting a bit much.  This is definately going to be a different kind of AGS meeting, I hope it works out.

Are the two girls you're bringing interested in AGS or video games?

As a fellow female, I'm just wondering.

Pumaman

I live quite close to Stansted airport, so I can give some people a lift from there no problem if it helps.

Indeed. All the previous AGS meets have had 10-15 people and this looks like it could be much bigger than that. There's no reason why it can't work out, but I imagine it'll work quite differently from those in the past.

It's also worth mentioning that at previous gatherings people haven't brought girlfriends/boyfriends/outside friends. One of the great things about Brittens/Mittens is that nobody knows each other, and yet at the same time everyone does know each other through the forums.

Here's the craic!

(7) m0ds (England)
(7) Yufster (Ireland)
(?) Custard (England)
(7) AGA (Wales)
(7) Scotch (Wales)
(Tuesday) Hotspot (England)
(?) Haddas (Finland)
(7) DaveGilbert (America)
(7) Ishmael (Finland)
(4) CJ (England)
(?) LimpingFish (Ireland)
(?) MattGoble (England)
(7) Iqu (England)
(?) Ashen (England)
(7) Miez (Holland)
(?) Creed Maley (England)
(?) JetXL (Holland)
(7) Magintz (England)
(?) Layabout (Australia, sort of)
(?) Hajo (Germany)
(?) SSH (Scotland)
(?) DarkStalkey (England)
(4) ShatteredSponge (England)
(7) Strazer + 4 random people (Germany) (2 females)

27 People!!! so far, perhaps I'm missing a few? I don't know who are confirmed and who's not, but this is a rough idea of who's coming and for how long. I assume most long distance travellers will be staying the seven days to make the best of Brittens. If all these guys come, that'll be people from Australia (sort of), Holland, Germany, America, Ireland and Finland as well as the UK. Woo! Not to mention three vegetarians, three girls and a few newbies.

The people with (7) by their names are the people who are, or are probably staying for 7 days. I think Hotspot is only coming down for the Tuesday (don't know if you're staying down after that, 'Spot) and I have no idea of the people who are only staying four days.

Talk about Variety! Am I missing anybody?

Ashen

That'd be:
Ashen (England), incidentally.

scotch:
I'm also going to be arriving at Victoria coach station - what time are you all likely to be there? I'd rather not chance trying to find the campsite by myself, first time out. (Oh, and Victoria - Staines looks to be about £5.50, single).
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Meowster

Cool thanks :)

How long do you plan to stay for? Some people are staying for a further three days after the official date.

Ashen

At the moment, it's just the 1st-4th, but it might change after I've been there a while.
Do I need to decide in advance? For booking the site, or something.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Haddas

I'm probably staying the full time. Or not. How should I come? Plane lands 23:50 every night.

Holy crow.  What I'll do for a free flight.

I have enough mileage to cover a free flight to the UK, but only on Delta or one of its affiliates.  The only flight available is one that travels from NYC to TEXAS, then a 5 hour layover, then a 9 hour flight to London Gatwick.

I am on the waitlist for a few more reasonable flights, but despite the hassle I am willing to do it for a free ride.

However, the flight arrives at 11am on the 30th, one whole day before Brittens begins.  Is there a kind London soul who can take me in for the day/night?  I'll be jetlagged and dishevelled so I'll be sure to provide some amusement.

-Dave

Privateer Puddin'

While I can do the whole 7 days, i haven't decided whether i will yet.. probably wiil, but i'll leave it open for awhile just incase.

Meowster

Hang on, if it's from Friday the 1st to the next Friday, that's actually the 8th, not the 7th like I thought it was. What time are we all splitting up on Friday?

strazer

QuoteAre the two girls you're bringing interested in AGS or video games?

No, not really.

QuoteOne of the great things about Brittens/Mittens is that nobody knows each other, and yet at the same time everyone does know each other through the forums.

Yeah. I've just talked with my girlfriend. I will come alone, she and maybe two friends on Monday. We'll stay at the campsite for another few days.

QuoteI live quite close to Stansted airport, so I can give some people a lift from there no problem if it helps.

I'm interested. What time are most people arriving at the airport? I can be there at 09:25 or 22:05.

Haddas

A lift would be GREATLY appreciated. It's my first time aborad, and airports confuse me, as do buses. And everything else too, really. I arrive 23:30 at London Stansted (STN) if I travel the first of July. However. I could leave the 30th too. It would arrive at the same time, but cost 20â,¬ more. What do you suggest, and would I get a ride? If I fit in the trunk. Otherwise I'll walk.

Blimey, that's a convoluted flight! Hope something simpler does come up for you!

QuoteWhat time are we all splitting up on Friday?

I imagine it will be a gradually throughout the day, depending on what time people need to get flights/trains/etc - type affair.

Ok, is there anyone else who'd need a lift from Stansted? It's a shame that the Ryanair-type flights always seem to be either really early or really late in the day, but what can you do :)

I'll be in that mans luggage, unless I get caught in the customs... or if he decides that he needs his personal things more than some half-blind idiot...
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.
