Hi there,

On replaying it yesterday, I noticed that the famous scifi author Orson Scott Card is mentioned in the credits in Monkey Island (under 'sword fighting insults', to be precise). Does anybody know if this is true, or an inside joke, or something else?
(of course it's in the same category as 'art and animation for disk 42', but Card is pretty famous so maybe it's homage?)

It's true.  He was also a writer for Loom and The Dig.

As I recall, he gave classes on writing to Young Tim and Young Dave, and possibly Ron. Where did I read this? Hmm.

Funny you should mention that, because I took a class on writing from Young Tim.  HA.

He wrote the dialogue for The Dig.

The dialogue for the dig was atrocious.

As a result, I avoided reading Ender's Game for some time.

Yes, I never understood how a supposedly awesome writer like Orson Scott Card, could produce such a crap dialogue. One part that especially got me was at the end, when wasshisname keeps saying, "Can one human do all this? Can I save us? Can I do what no human has done before? Can I..." And general stuff like that. Which sounds bad enough, except on the very next screen he says pretty much exactly the same. Sounds stupid.

Anyway, Chris was telling us a story. Go on, Chris.

Make babies with him?

I'm so jealous of him, I want to run over him in a monster truck, over and over and over again, and then a real truck, filled with molten led.

But first, I want to hear this thingy he had with Tim.

Moox

Orson lives a few miles away from me  ;D
I liked his books (only read 25 of them) but i agree the dialogue sucked.

Radiant

Oh I don't know, those insults from MI were pretty funny.
As to his books, well, wow. Especially Ender's Game, Lovelock and Pastwatch.
