Interesting questions, I've enjoyed the three interviews very much. Nice work Jimmy
Ditto. Vince inparticular, judging from both the interview and his calm and considered contributions to the religion thread, seems like a thoroughly nice fellow.
Good work, DN.
An interesting read, nice one Jim!
Really cool. I like how straight up and honest people have been, it's interesting to hear others experiences with AGS.
I don't know how you do it Dual, your a total workhorse. 8)
Nice interviews.
Got me even more excited about Resonance.
I've enjoyed reading the interviews too. Good work! :)
Heh, I just noticed that on my interview (which I swear was broken into more paragraphs! ;)) I gave the link to the Kickstarter page and added </shamelessplug> at the end, which then incorporated itself into the link, leaving it broken! Little fix there, please, dual? :-*
And yeah, super good job on these Dualnames!
If anyone's looking for more AGSer interviews, I did a couple a long time back that you might enjoy. (http://xiigames.com/category/twelve-interviews/)

You left a broken link in the blog entry because you thought it's fun? Man, you're easily entertained.
I'll give these a read later, it's always interesting to hear what AGSers are up to.
Yeah, as I said in the Resonance thread, these are great interviews. Really interesting! Good job.
Who are you planning to talk to next? ;) at what point will you have to interview yourself...?

Loved your interview, Ben!
Duals, I'm glad you are doing this. It's great to hear what other AGSers are doing and what they are up to.

Luckily, I got here just in time to get that quote ship-shape.
Personally, the first thing I thought of was Austin Powers. Last line of the first Austin Powers movie: "Who throws a shoe? Honestly, you fight like a woman."
Nice series of interviews so far. By the way, do you have any plans to interview CJ at some point?
I knew I was missing some details about how fantastic your avatar is.
Perhaps it's not a Monkey Island themed puzzle, maybe it's: 'You fight like a... girl'. And he'll be interviewing Ivy or Mash?
I'm never any good at these word puzzles. :P

Sadly, I was not asked that question. But, even though I'm now a famous AGSer worthy of interviewing, I'm still a man of the people. To answer your question:
Puberty.
In my defense, I'd like to point out that I resisted the urge to give the primary women characters in my game huge boobs. Noriko, Debbie, the Chief -- all reasonably sized breasts. But the Mayor is just a recurring character, so I indulged myself and went a little overboard on her. Or a lot.
Also, I'd like to point out that I'm not just about boobs. My women have ample booties too. As evidence, I offer this screencap from an unused portion of the "Electric Sexytime Tom Jones Dance Party" from The Forever Friday part 2.
It speaks for itself, I think.
Clearly, I'm not just about boobs. I'm a well-rounded person.
Ponch
I stand erected.
Ah, it is a fine thing when Noriko gets the coverage she deserves.
Of course, by 'coverage', I mean 'exposure' :=
Thanks Prog and Ben. You have no idea how difficult it was for me to cut that scene from the game!

-ProgZ
-Nikolas
-TheJBurger (actually, everyone working on
Resonance ;D)
-LimpingFish

As Dualnames mentioned, people have offered, but Barn Runner remains a one man show. This series is my one creative outlet, and in the past it was easy to find the time to work on the games. But 2009 has been extraordinarily busy. But the calendar for 2010 is looking to be more manageable, so hopefully things will get back on track.
Also, after the Forever Friday opus comes to an end, the next couple of games in the series are self contained adventures. Barn Runner 9: Collect Call of the Siren is a two-parter, and Barn Runner 10: This Shameless Tomorrow is a big hunk o' game like The Forever Friday, but those are a ways down the road. Hopefully, smaller, self-contained games like Barn Runner 6: Even Rich Dames Cut The Cheese will help me get back on schedule.
If not... well, let's hope CJ keeps supporting AGS for the next six or seven years.
And damn it, Ben. Stop using your mental powers! Surfing the web in my underwear is one of the few pleasures that I have in this busy life. I don't need you mucking it up for me. I already get enough grief about it from my co-workers!

I'm done with interviews (nah, soon let it rest a while (two days))
Can I suggest that it might be interesting to interview the creators of freeware adventure game engines?
Chris Jones is the most obvious for an AGS blog, and it would be great to hear from him. It would also be interesting to hear what the creators of engines like Wintermute and Lassie have to say about classic games, underground adventures and the fact that adventure games seem miraculously to have become commercially viable again.

Next one..the man that has been sprited as Ash by a man that has sprited Dave Gilbert's Signature Pixel..Guess Who..
Another one so soon? But we haven't had time to talk about the latest one!
Regarding Nikolas' interview, it's always interesting to find out what got people into AGS in the first place. "Gift of Aldora" was something I was really looking forward to -- just to see if it could be done, as much as anything else. Sadly, it was not to be.
Also, it was nice to have a "behind the music" installment of this series. It's interesting to see the world of AGS from the perspective of someone who is a specialist (music and sound) instead of the "big cheese" of the project. It would be cool to see more of that in the future.
Even more importantly, now I finally understand why Nikolas is using that pic as his sig file.
Keep up the good work. Interesting interview as always.

CJ declined to be interviewed? I'm shocked. I realize that the thought of joining such an elite organization is a heady thought sure to make the knees of even the most stalwart man go all wobbly, but I hope that CJ will soon come to his senses and step up to the plate.
It's an interview for the AGS blog, man! It's the highest honor your country can bestow upon you. Plus after your interview, you get a snazzy blue satin jacket with your name on it. (Okay, I had to have mine custom made at the local sporting goods store, but I still wear it with pride, dammit.)
Face up to your fears, CJ. Be a man, step into the spotlight, and get yourself a neat blue jacket. Plus you get to have your photo up on the wall of the clubhouse next to Ben and Nikolas. It's awesome!

Hey, let's not kid ourselves. The best things in life comes from cows! Beef, milk, leather, greenhouse gases.
When I hired Bessie to be my avatar, I told her in no uncertain terms that the day she stops dancing is the day I get new leather upholstery for my Ford. Until then, she gets full dental and all the grass she can eat (while dancing).

What I find the most funny is that CJ used some of his spare time to participate in this interview in which he tells us how he has no spare time to work on AGS. :P
Yeah, get back to work CJ!
I mean: what a nice interview! An opportunity for us to say thanks for the time and effort that have been put into AGS is always worthwhile.
And in spite all of our host's diplomacy, I think it's pretty evident that A Tale of Two Kingdoms and Ben Jordan 6 are CJ's favourite games. I refer to you Exhibit A (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/)!

Haha, those are really cool reads. Good job on the interviews!

CJ has often admitted to being a big fan of Lassi Quest. Obviously not in blogs though... :P
Asking CJ about his favourite AGS game is reserved for Mittens only.
Not that he will answer it there either, but anyway.
I always figured that one of CJ's favorite games had to Larry Vales. It's the only game that has its own smiley after all.
Anyhoo, good interview. But Dualnames should have used the picture of Chris with a mustache at the top of the interview. That way we could all be wowed by his machismo while we read.
Shame on you, Dual, for not asking about the blue cup. Fortunately I found another interview containing that question, though it wasn't what I expected (Chris getting the idea for AGS while drinking coffee out of a blue cup).
Hmm..
I think a better story would be :
Chris was standing on his toilet, hanging a clock. He slipped and fell, bumping his head on the sink causing him to be knocked unconscious. When he came to he had the idea for the flux capacitor AGS system, which is what makes time travel adventure game creation possible.
-Bill

Nice interview, Dualnames. I'd say something witty and/or clever, but I'm too jet lagged to think straight just now. Who's next in line? SSH? Ryan Timothy? Mash Potato (owner of the most awesome bee avatar on the internets)?
And Ben, are you telling me there are towns that don't have the intertubes? What the hell do they do for fun? How can they get their daily fix of new Ben304 games?

Oooo... Oh no.. lol I think you meant to replace my name with a much more interesting chap. Someone who actually releases games. :)
I've got so many games on the back burner and only one of them is an adventure game. Go figure.
The games I'm working on right now are:
Road Racer 2.

After reading the link title I was expecting an interview with Indiana Jones, but m0ds is a great choice too. And the FOY backgrounds look splendid.

I like this interview. But they are all so short and lacking in overall content and questiony quality. I'd like to see more comprehensive interviews that dig deeper, demand more, and deliver touchdowns/goals. In other words, less random, more well-ordered and thoughtful interviews that show the interviewer has put real time and effort forth.

I enjoy the light humorous approach to the AGS Blog interviews. I like to think of them as a getting-to-know-AGSers-type arrangement.
There is also room, though, for more in-depth articles. Personally, I'd like to see some round-table discussions on various adventure/game/design-related subjects.

OW! My ego! Now I'm never going to have any luck with the AGS ladies.
Also, I like the "getting to know you" aspect of the interviews. That's not to say that I wasn't hoping that when I was interviewed that I'd be given the opportunity to give a ten thousand word angry screed about the quality of today's youth and the fact that the Freemasons are still running the world. Alas, those questions never came up so I had to fill space with my love of the old Airwolf TV show. I was good either way, really.
Lastly, cute and dinky as he may be, that bald hamster is still watching me... with his beady little eyes... even as I type this... Ah! He's going to swallow my soul!

If I was OK with using unoriginal music in games I'd definitely have The Great Gig in the Sky as the end credits music.
That proves my theory almost all AGS people LISTEN TO PINK FLOYD. You can't even begin to speculate the list of great developers that do. :D Also it'd be nice to see that song as the end credits, since you promised.
I don't think it will be on the end credits, I'm afraid.
Pink Floyd are ace though!
I've been away for a bit, but now I'm back and catching up on all the AGS goings-on that I've missed, including these good interviews. Star Trek Newton is one of the few games I made time to play recently. I enjoy the way it nicely captures the retro look and feel of the old series (the only true Trek, in my opinion). Nice stuff. I really enjoy every of the interviews. However it would be nice if you had Question > answer and not a list of questions and a list of answers.
Thanks for the great interview Dual and SSH!
Some questions proved to be quite a challenge to write answers to - mainly to present the development in a concise and family friendly manner. A lot of stuff needed to be cut out in the end.
EDIT: And yeah I would appreciate if appropriate questions and answers could be put together for the readers' convenience.

Explaining the impact Ghost has left to me as a member of the AGS community after first meeting him, and our general talks over the years, would take forever. A wonderful person, a mentor to my favorite AGS member, and an amazing game designer. Am I up for another interview? Always! (Dualnames and Grundlben take note!)
The next Bake Sale would be good timing for an updated interview with Ponch. The paparazzi should be all over him at that time, so schedule with his PR staff early!

This is a thing I can neither confirm nor deny at this time. (wrong)
Perhaps very irrelevant to state, but reading interviews won't get you nowhere someone's psychosynthesis and persona. I knew Ponch before it, and I believe the best way to meet someone in the AGS community is via private message and working together on games. If anything those interviews hightlight members not their personalities.
Dualnames has made it his mission in life to interview as many AGSers as possible, which is a nice service but would leave one AGSer out. I mean, the man can't interview himself, can he? So let's return the favour and play a game of 20 Questions with the man I always imagine to reach for his towel when things get rough. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Spanos!

Ah, sorry Mr. Ponch for my ignorance. Now if you will excuse me, I've to go to read your interviews... :cheesy:
PS: +1 to all those suggestions for Ponch's another interview.
About me not being able to interview myself..

Waaaaait a minute, something's fishy about that quote.
:= I assure you, no fish will be involved. :=
Favourite food- mashed potato. (roll)
Shocking... 8-0
:ppppppppppppp
How do you mash it, then? I always end up with lumps in mine and don't feel like I enjoy them enough...
Also, just to say, I prefer Daemons In The Attic. Everyone's got ghosts in the attic- that's a fairly common thing. Like skeletons in the closet. But Daemons... they're just so much cooler!:)
Another fun read. :cheesy:
