I just surfed onto the Adventure Collective and saw this interview with Jane Jensen:
http://www.adventurecollective.com/interviews/interview-janejensen2003.htm

She talks about a new, rather secretive project, currently named Jane-J, which appearently will be a Mystery-Thriller in the GK sense...
Maybe this is all too good to be true, but I sure feel excited about this... ;D
What do you think?

Who's Jane Jensen?
Ah Gabriel Knight person.. well that's nice.  They seemed well designed.. even if I'm yet to solve a puzzle in any of them.

Rincewind

Hehe, I'm a huge fan of the GK-series myself, so my reaction when reading the article was perhaps a bit understandable... ;D
You should try them, they are really, really good.

scotch

Oh I have ;) Well the first.. haven't got anywhere in it though.  It's certainly the best Sierra game I've played so far..

Lucky

Now this was unexpected!  :o
This has been a great day, shame it's over soon.

Exciting! however, it doesn't sound like the eagerly awaited GK4 ... which is a shame, as I really like the GK series. I guess we'll just have to go and make ourselves some GK fan games then :)

I'm not sure if miez meant it as a joke, as the smiley would indicate, but I'm treating it as a serious suggestion. GK fan games have been suggested before, so certainly there is an interest in this sort of game. The argument against a fan-made sequel has been that Jane might just return to the series and do a GK4. But this seems less and less likely, I'm not even sure who owns the rights these days.
But the real issues I see with creating a sequel is that 1) only Jane really knows the characters. Every game has shown us some new side of them, and I doubt anyone but her could really do them justice. 2) The style of the games requires MASSIVE amounts of research - that perfect blend between fact and fiction would be nearly impossible to achieve in a fan made game. I'm currently writing a GK-like mystery game, and the only reason that I'm able to handle the huge amount of historical fact is because half of it has to do with film history, which I've been studying for six years (more than that if you count my interest in the subject before university).
So I honestly don't believe in a "real" GK game made by fans. What I WOULD like to see are spin-off games using the characters from GK, just like Night of the Hermit does with MI. Imagine a Detective Mosely game, or maybe a historical game starring one of the earlier Schattenjagers of the Ritter family. That could be one hell of a game.

Hmm, those damn smileys! no, it wasn't intended as a joke - in fact I've been playing around with the thought of making a GK game for a long time.

I agree, the scope of the GK games is vast (good luck with your project). And a spin-off didn't occur to me yet, but that is a great idea!

What are you waiting for?  ;)

Hmm... Pretty interesting idea, GarageGothic is right about those problems though...

BTW, I'd definitely download that Mosely-game. ;)

GarageGothic, that's a really good idea - A spin-off game is perhaps better than making a "real" GK fan-game, considering the points you mentioned.

One silly idea that I had been thinking of though, is a vga-remake of GK2...
I don't know why, but I just started to think about how GK2 would have looked if it was made in the same graphical style as GK1... ( And without Dean Ericson...) Probabably just a dumb dream... ;D

Agswannabe:
I would reccomend buying it instead, since it is still available(At least I think so...) on the market.

i know the game is for sale but i just can't seem to get it. i saw a post on an oldies game site and i downloaded it but it didn't work.
