Title: Looking for Dark Atmosphere AGS games to play
Post by: SquirlyGirl on Sun 23/10/2011 06:30:01
I'm looking for more dark atmosphere AGS games to play  ;D I simply love those type of games. The AGS ones like this I have played so far : 5 days a stranger, 7 days a skeptic, I couldn't play Trilby's notes for some reason :( it had all kinds of problems on my PC maybe its the windows 7, The Marionette, Prodigal, and the other one I played I can't think of the name right now , its christmas time or something the guy is depressed looking and I think he hangs himself in the end of the game.

Thanks for any suggestions !

P.S I don't only like dark atmosphere games but I am just really im the mood for some of these lately, especially with halloween around the corner.

You really should get Trilby's Notes to run - it's the best of the series by far.

In addition I'd recommend:

- Infinity String (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=901) - a sci-fi with some dark, heavy themes and scary monsters
- Heartland (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=813) - a short horror story
- Mind's Eye (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=646) - a psychological horror set in an insane asylum

Also, try my and Baron's Snakes of Avalon - while not totally dark and depressing (it's primarily a black comedy about alcoholism and murder), there are good reasons it's been compared to Merry Christmas, Alfred Robbins:

Oh, and if you can afford paying a bit, you should really try:

- Downfall (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1170) (disturbing, gory horror)
- the Blackwell (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=831) series (4 games in total, dark mysteries and lots of ghosts of people who ended their lives on an unhappy note)
- Gemini Rue (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1407) (another dark sci-fi - this time cyberpunk style)

all of those have free demos available

Emily Enough (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=search&sterm=emily+enough&submit=Search%21) - a story about a girl who murdered her parents
McCarthy Chronicles: ep. 1 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1243) - a supernatural detective game. WARNING: very cheesy  :=

Shades of Greye (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1274) - a non-adventure game about monsters in a small town

A G-G-Ghost! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1187) - an outright parody of horror, very silly, but yet so brilliant I simply can't omit it

Additionally you may take a look at other things tagged "horror" on AGS Archives (http://www.agsarchives.com/catalogue/list-all/Genre/horror.html)

I would like to suggest Prodigal (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=search&sterm=prodigal&submit=Search%21). I enjoyed this game very much. Give it a shot :)
