If you have ever played adenture games from LUCAS ARTS such as monkey islands, grim fandango, full throttle, sam and max, and maniac mansions. they are really fun and entertaining . well back in 2003 they made plans for sam and max 2 and full throttle 2, then they canned both plans. LUCAS ARTS hasnt even produced or came up with a new plan for a new adventure game. This makes me really mad . i know many people agree they should start making new adventure games. am i right?
Lucasarts is a company that at one point in time made adventure games partly do to the fact that the people working there wanted to make them. Those people are no longer working there [for the most part] so if Lucasarts started making adventure games again it would be completly different than before [as most things are].
So support the people who made the adventure games you love not the company that they worked at.
1. DON'T PANIC.
2. Don't listen to Eric, those drunken ex-Lucasarts bums don't need your support. They're rich enough already.
3. If you're young enough, blame your generation. They are the ones who set the standards game developers bow down to. That standard seems to be very high on the graphics and action end and very low on everything else.
4. Don't listen to the next reply.
A company does not make games. It's people, damn it! PEOPLE!!!!11
You'd better hope they don't make another adventure game. They'd probably start out with a nice idea, and then they'd change things around to match the market. It's like when SQ7 was being made by sierra. They intended to make it 3d (not so bad) and multiplayer. Which completely has nothing to do with the series. Look at what happened to Monkey Island...The last had some good elements but they added so much more to appeal to a wider audience, it made the game less playable.

Yeah, or like that lame Leisure Luis Larry sequel starring his lame cousin which wasn't even an adventure game.
Thes ecompanies today wouldn't make the same kind of games we know & love. Better to rejoice with your classic adventure games classics and play new AGS games,
When Adventure games are Outlaw only Outlaws wll have Adventure games.
Lucas Arts should just keep making crappy Star Wars games untill people get sick of it and stop buying. As for adventure games... They are dead and AGS is a bunch of zombies. Maybe one day the things will change. Adventure games had a soul. A story. They made you think. But for the new generation of games thinking is bad. Just shoot everything, pretend you are really playing and enjoy the "game".

[sarcasm]I disagree, LucasArts make plenty of high quality star wars games we all love and enjoy so much that they make more and more and more...[/sarcasm]
The dark side of gaming is one many believe to be un-natural
Aw c'mon guys! The star wars games aren't that bad! Knights of the old republic was good! And the sequel was exactly the same but less good! And then there's that other star wars game.. you know, the game of the movie in lego form in the style of a racing MMORPG strategy beat 'em up! Everyone knows that game.
If LEC did start making adventure games again you could rest assured the quality would be just as dire as their recent franchised efforts.
EDIT: In reference to what Eric is about to say, "I wasn't aware of that, however its no skin off my rosy nose. I feel indifferent towards LEC in general these days."
Since Lucasarts has closed all game producing facilities and is now just a publisher, they won't be making any games for a long long time.
Eric
Why are they hiring then?
http://www.lucasarts.com/jobs/
With this link, they gather information for chasing old Adventure Game geeks, and they go and kill them.
So, never ever put your info there...
I thought they shut down all production last year and were just publishers, oh well, nevermind then.
Must be willing to work overtime.
Love it.
I would love to work for a game company :) i would really love to work for a game company...
I would really really really really love to work for a game company.
:P
PS: Who needs a life when you work for a game company.... so overtime isnt that bad ;)
I bet if you print out the form and zoom in x 1000 you'll find another caveat:
Must be willing to give your soul to Lucasarts...And any ideas you may have while you are its bitch.

You sound like the perfect EA employee! Hours of overtime with no additional pay!
LOL
Yeah I really wont care about the pay in that case anyway since I would be doing what I love.
EA is also a awesome company was actually thinking going to work for them in redwood ca awhile ago...

EA is in a complex that has restaurants, a lounge, fitness center. I've heard that many employees stay there for days at a time, working 12-16 hour days.
The more I learn and experience about the gaming industry, it seems to revolve less around entertainment and more aorund torture.
Unless of course, you're one of those penny-pinching independent developers that scrape by...
Man that sounds awesome... I mean the gym n stuff ;)
Yeah I agree with you BB that in the corporate enviroment game developement turns into the pumpkin instead of the chariot...
It depends who you work for.
There's obviously going to be crunch times (as in almost any company that has to release a product) but there are a lot better places than EA that are making AAA games.
I work at Vicarious Visions and it's great! We just moved into a HUGE new office and I couldn't be happier! I haven't had to work much overtime [I think I worked 1 hour here and there over] and I've hit all my milestones.
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here's a rather infamous account of life working for those scum (who, me? biased? :P):
http://ea-spouse.livejournal.com/274.html
It's also worth reading the replies to that, where countless other developers chime in with their opinions on EA and many other high end companies in the industry. It's certainly an eye-opener for any wannabe developers out there, I know it was for me.
And MrColossal, great to hear that all companies aren't like that and there's good experiences to be had as well (I bloody hope so, I'm a games development student).

Progz: Good call, I totally agree.
cheeba, those livejournal replies are priceless. Still, since I live alone and keep really odd hours I could hack out a year or two at EA and then move on to a smaller developer without much trouble. I still see that they treat people like shit, but I would just be there to use them for resume real estate anyway so it works both ways, bitches!
P.S. - Hire me, Eric.
Cheeba that is scary that the people feel so about it. A company like that should be taken over my someone that really cares about gaming and people that create these games. I dont like corporate gaints that throw there weight around "dont let us down we are family" BS but yeah that sucks.
This has opened my eyes that if I ever do go into the gaming sector that I will make a wiser choice than that of a brand name!
Ps: MMM it looks like Maxis is also a "whos your daddy company"
Anyway crazy.
This is insane. I wonder what Nintendo is like... or Ubisoft Montreal... I never really liked EA games anyway. I see no difference between Madden NFL 2005 and 2006 (in terms of better gameplay.) Where were those posts from? It sounded like the USA, maybe it's different (or worse *gulp*) here. It's almost scarry.
Moral: Ask tons of questions and get your answers IN WRITING and SIGNED. Then you can sue with proof.

Clue 1: They mention dollars.
Clue 2: It mentions the U.S declaration of independance.
Though I'm not sure HOW much has changed... since the original production of that article (2 years ago) after reading the post after it, and then scanning through the "Gamwatch.org" thing, It seems that EA got filed with a Class Action suit back in 2005 or maybe 2004, but that article appearently had a big affect.
Though I'm sure companies still practice it, I think it is alot harder for them to get away with now. As for me, If I DO ever do that whole Game Making college thing, I'd probably do something like Scratchware from HOTU at first.
Haha, I was wondering if my comment would've resulted in a link to that article being posted, and sure enough... EA has a big studio in Vancouver, and they're constantly hiring young anxious developers straight out of our design schools. I can't help but feel bad for the people who study so hard to work for EA, and then realise how badly they're treated.
Have you played any games from EA lately?
They don't work that hard. :=
Apparently this year- sorry, this quarter year's release of Fifa is actually playable.
But still not as good as PES.
Their latest scheme doesn't even sound legal. Apparently in some of their newer games, you have to go through a lengthy registration form to play online. All kinds of personal information gets plunked into this thing, then after it's all been uploaded, the game gives you a choice to either pay EA 2 bucks or get spammed by them.
I hate EA.

ROFLMAO
I agree whole heartedly
Also, I hate their motto "Challlenge everything"
It makes me want to beat that child to death with a shovel.
I won't, obviously.
AND! I hate how they ripped out the neat music in Burnout where it gets faster if you burnout and replaced it with college rock/emo licensed music.
They just want people to keep Yakspit company.
