Post by: Nixxon on Sat 14/06/2003 09:11:35
greetings :D
I'm thinking of recreating a scene from KQ3 and just wondering if someone could quickly post a couple of KQ3 screenies for me, I'm using XP and as we all know it's about as responcive as a dead terd concearning DOS apps/games and I'm unable to print screen.
I've also googled it, to no avail.
Thanks, would be very much appreciated ;)
(the screenie i have in mind is the jagged hill below mannan's house)

that jagged hill was probably the crapiest bit of any game i have ever played ever. you had a certain amount of time to get into the village and do anything and you had to spend all of it being INCREDIBLY carefull not to fall onto the rocks. i hated that game.

And who are YOU to say that The great and mighty KQ3 sucks? It is my favourite AGI game along with goldrush.

It had too much dead-ends.

By the way, have you realized that Josh Mandel was the only actor that has acted a KQ character in all series? Even in tierra remakes.

kq5 was about a million more times poofy than kq6, recognise!

KQ5 was the one with Graham and Mordrack? If so... my vote goes to KQ5!

KQ5 was evil, lots of walking deads (as well as sitting-tied-up-in-a-basement deads) and one of those horrible Sierra mazes (the desert) that you have to map out while saving and restoring a hundred times. Not to mention the time limit on getting the items and exiting the tomb.

KQ3, now, that's a great concept. Sure, it has flaws (time limits and random encounters), but the whole idea of snooping around the sorcerers house and turning his own magic against him was great. Without the pirates and with an expanded final chapter in a devastated Daventry it would be on my top-20 list for sure. I hope Tierra takes it on after QFG2VGA, and redo it totally like they did with KQ2.

I never was a huge fan of KQ6 (although I remember playing "girl in the tower" again and again while trying to rewire a pair of old speakers :)). It was just too episodic for my tastes - sure lots of fun islands to explore, but no real connection.

KQ4 on the other hand I remember with fondness. The shift between day and night, the ghosts in the creepy old house, the living trees in the forest, the three witches. There was a darkness too it lacking from the earlier games (Dracula's castle was never REALLY scary). Also it set the standard for the time-honored device of grave robbery in adventure games :) Plus you got to play a girl for probably the first time in graphic adventures (I remember at least one female player character in a text adventure, Plundered Hearts).

Edit: I don't remember much of KQ7, but the Nightmare Before Christmas rip-off world was cool.

KQ7 looks more like a disney movie than like an adventure game. I enjoyed it though.

I say quit your whining casue all KQ are poofy, j/k, well they are all a bit that way (not theat there's anything wrong with that) but they were written by a girl.

I preferred 5 to 6 [never played any higher number episodes] but I prefer all the SQ, QFG, and LSL's before any KQ, Even the Laura Bow mysteries, but that's just my opinion and yeah, Gold Rush was Awsome too,

The late 80's early 90's was a great adventure gaming era, but I'm probably biased cause that's whem I was in high school.

I didnt really care for any of the king's quests before 5. KQ5 and robin hood were the first 2 adventure games that I finished myself, (although I hated all teh walking deads...and teh being locked in a basement thingee). I guess my fav was KQ6, but Im not that big into the KQ games. I thought 6 was really hard, and then KQ7 played like a stupid movie, and the dumbed the GUI down to one-click does all, and the save system sucked, and created walking deads sometimes. I guess it was made for younger kids...

Never played KQ8. Heard it sucked

KQVI an V are the best, followed by KQIV, II and VII.  I can't really say anything about III and I, because I haven't played the originals, (started III, never got far. didn't know what I was doing) but VIII doesn't even make it on any list.  That. Game. Sucked.

Oooo, look at me I'm so smart using roman numerals and whatnot.

If I had to choose whether 5 or 6 was "poofier" I'd definitly say 5.  "Oh deary me, where has my owl friend gone? Cedric, where are you?" When the main character has anthropomorphic animal friends, I start worrying.

that owl was a big poof

i liked kq4 best, even though i never completed it, i just enjoyed walking around a lot and telling rosella to take off her clothes and to fuck things

KQ5 made such good use of theming -
Desert, Town, Swamp, Mountains, Desert Island, Evil Castle Thingo, Did i miss anything?

U know you love it!
even if Cedric was a tad homo (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I love KQ6 the most out of the KQ series.  In my opinion, it pretty much achieved everything a good adventure should.  I'm not familiar with 3 or 8.  I wasn't particularly fond of 7.  5 is my next favorite after 6 and the others fall about equally for me.
