Ok, As I said, move this thread if you need to.
Anyway, last year I made my first game with AGS in 3 weeks (it was horrible because I had a 3 week deadline, being that it was a birthday present). So the game I made was horrible. Not because of the graphics that made it horrible (even though the were, I'm not very good at following Tutorials) but what made it bad were the puzzles. For me the hardest part of making an adventure game is making the puzzles challenging. What I tried to do was make some of puzzles of my own, and then also look at puzzles in proffecional games (AKA Monkey Island), and sort of look at how the puzzles are done to make the challanging.

The point of this topic is, how does everyone come up with good puzzles. Its hard to make puzzles when your making the game because you already know the solution, and you have to put your self in the gamer's possition. So how do all of you come up with your puzzles?

Think of day to day puzzles you find yourself solving. For example, you need to get to a party thats five miles away, your bike has a puncture and your mum is out.

You find some money, and get a bus. Simple!

But when you get to the party, it has a capacity of 200 people and there's already 200 people inside, with another 100 people queing including you!

So you could wait but you'd rather find a way in. You go through a back window.

There - just think of day to day experiences.

You do NOT put fish in doorlocks to open a door. Thats just a stupid puzzle ;)

Right forum, btw.

What about unlocking the door by balancing three biscuits on your head and a flute up your nose singing "Them Bones, Them Bones"?

I always say "Kent sent me" to locked doors.

It was 'Ken sent me' :P

Ken Williams was the owner of Sierra at the time, and Al Lowe was making a reference to him, I assume.
