Title: pick o' the month
Post by: Captain Mostly on Tue 20/07/2004 16:54:07
We're two months behind on the pick of the month!
Has the output been too slow of late to get enough decent candidates?
Or have we just not had time to update!

Has snail quest been picked yet?

I was gonna say about that, but then I thought " Maybe no games (or any good ones) were finished in June".

Or maybe admin went on holiday.

The thing is that I have been picking most games lately, mostly because I started doing it once upon a time, and we never really worked out any program or special "jury" to select these games, so I just continued.

Since I haven't had time to do it lately, and more importantly because I never get around to play any games any longer, it's quite severly overdue.

I've even recieved PM:s reminding me of this duty, as well as suggestions for good picks; sometimes serious suggestions, sometimes people have just promoted their own games.

Since this was never my official responsibility, it's more or less up to CJ to select new games, or work out some sort of commitée or schedule or whatever. I enjoyed writing the articles, and I can gladly do it in the future, but not at the moment.

I say we put tankers game as the pick and forget about it

Awww man.

If it's CJ who's ultimatly responsible for this, no one'll EVER have the guts to chase it! We can't exactly tell him to get his arse in gear, as it would seem more than a little un-greatful...

I nominate Mr Fibble to put himself forward to CJ to be in charge of picking the pew pick of the month.

p.s. what's tankers game?

Cinema Quest.

Shudder at your discression.

When you say me, do you mean a deputation, where I tell CJ to "get his arse in gear" or where I get the fame & glory?

Both are good, BTW.

This has been discussed on a higher level, and chances are we'll bring it up during mittens again.

Hopefully, we'll have an august-pick written by some trusted AGS-veteran before you know it :)

I'd like to thank Andail for doing the picks lately. We've agreed to a change now, so I've done the August pick and then AGA will take over doing Pick of the Month from September.

Andail did a very VERY good job. Thankyou Andail!

I guess now AGA is the in-coming monthly picker, I can get used to NOT being pick of the month any more... Oh well. Twice should be enough for any man I suppose... And I'll have to finish some more games before it could be one of mine agian anyway.

Yeah, you did a great job Andail ^_^ and thanks for making Cirque your last pick! I for one wasn't too upset the pick of the month was stable for so long :P

Surely we can find someone to choose a pick of the month every month?
Perhaps Jozef Purdes could be persuaded?

It makes the web site look dead when the pick of the month is 6 months old...

Hehe just change it to pick of the "half-year", later we can make it pick of the year. :=

But seriously, I think someone really need to pick up that job.

There's a lot of stuff that needs to be done about the website, as CJ has said himself some time ago. One of the biggest issues being the pick of the month. We should nominate a jury to make CJ put his arse in gear :=

Hey! I just received a court order that I need to be a juror by the end of this month (and that's while I'm VERY busy, crap!).

Let us together plead the sinner CJ guilty of abandoning his webpage!

Someone told me that the games showcase in the front page (http://adventuregamestudio.co.uk/) also needs to be updated! It's been a while since two of a kind and 7 days a stranger skeptic came out... give way for other games, please!

Maybe the games from the showcase can be chosen randomly from the award winners or the illustrous games?

Or maybe just any game, randomly picked, from a list of games marked as approved for the showcase by a games database mod or something. Just that all proper games would be showcased randomly... Something like the "Game of the moment" (?) thing on the MAGS page.

Randomly picked games with high ratings is not a bad idea at all!

I second that.

Also... It would be nice if someone updated the games montage at the top of every page. It just will refresh the whole site for a bit, you know?

Maybe these games should be included
- Apprentince II
- 5 Days a Stranger
- Ben Jordan (3 or 4)
- Two of a Kind
- Cirque de Zale

- Uhh... saturday school ¬¬  ;D

Blimey, I didn't realise how out of date the pick had got!

I don't think there's any point having a September pick now that the month is nearly over anyway, but if we can arrange somebody to take on the role from October that'd be good.

Basically, I don't like to do it myself because I haven't played enough of the AGS games to know that I'm not overlooking some really good ones. So if there's anyone who plays most of the games that come out every month, and would like to maintain the Pick of the Month, please do volunteer.

Note that the pick doesn't have to be of a game released that month, but generally it should be of a fairly recently released game.

I've sort of started playing more games recently, so I guess I could do it some more. But maybe more people want to have a shot at this as well.

Maybe if we set up a rotation of the people who play games a lot: AGA, jane, Jozef, Andail, ... anyone else? Then even if one person forgets one month, then it will be someone else the follwoing month anyway.

I thought someone was going to pick a new game for October?
