I found myself is sudden love with games that show some reality, especially special forces work or murder mystery.
I mean, serious games. Then again, I dislike stupid horror games, like Dark Seed, etc.
I played through all Police Quest series... (first two were quite good, despite ancient and painful interface)
I played Blue Force...
I played Cruise for a corpse
I played KGB (and still it's my most favourite adventure game ever)
I played some AGS games starring a cop... Larry vales (not quite the thing, but okay), Pleurghburg...
And I don't know what else is out there. I believe I've played all major adventure games until 1996.
Are there anything similar left worth to try? With point-n-click interface atleast?
It shouldn't be police game, but something along the lines - the less humor and more realism, the better.
Operation Stealth?
Tried that.
..and Sherlock Holmes: Case of Serrated Scalpel.
..and this weird sierra thing, Codename-ice-something
...and everything from Access software (Amazon, Countdown, Tex Murphy (eck!))
I could make a bot answering this... I've tried REALLY lot of games.
Maybe something newer or little-known? At point where adventure games got impopular till today, I don't know much about the scene. As much I *do* know, there's only games for kids. Like Syberia and Dreamfall and Runaway. And some gems, like Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy (stupid too, but interesting!) and CSI series (not so much adventure, eh).
Still, it's 10 unknown years (about 1997-2007). I'm quite sure that there's alot I have missed.
You've played Gabriel Knight, I gather? What about Black Dahlia? Neither is strictly realistic, but the background is heavily historical and quite well-done. Also, what about Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo? Heart of China, maybe? The Laura Bow games? Have you tried Philip Marlowe, Private Eye? What about The Last Express? Am I still talking about the kind of games you're looking for, or did I drift away somewhat?
EDIT - And there's a text game called Conspiracy...
EDIT 2 - And a *very* old game called Proved Guilty (or something - NOT related to "Innocent Until Caught", look it up on Underdogs, from the makers of "SHadow President" I believe... or something).
Broken Sword series. It has some story elements of legend but it happens in the present world.
Also, Secret Files Tunguska.
Imho there hasn't been a single worthwhile adventuregame released since 1999. Don't waste your time on modern crap like Still Life (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/still-life), which I'm sure someone will recommend you.
Rather spend the time developing your own realistic game. I'm a Police Quest fan myself, and there really are way too few games in this genre. Another older game, which might interest you is Spycraft: The Great Game (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/spycraft-the-great-game) (and indeed it is). As for AGS games, The Shivah (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/shivah.html) is pretty realistic and pretty damn good, albeit very short.
broken sword 1 is one of the most realistic ags out there.
Most relistic ags? And i thought CJ's one was pretty real! :=
Broken sword is bloody ace though, i'm downloading it now actually as i've somehow lost BS1 and 2 in my spare room/dump.
Sorry, we only have Norm-based games :)
Broken sword is... eck... like a damn Disney cartoon. Not really the thing I'm looking for. Despite extremely good animation, I consider Police Quest 1 on AGI better game. And I have actually played BS too.
I'll try some other suggestions though. Spycraft looks really interesting one... though it's not adventure game I guess.
Well, it depends on your definition of adventure, but it is commonly classified as one (e.g. on wikipedia), even though there are no inventory puzzles and it has some short action (shoot-em-up) sequences. The puzzles are very original - such as analyzing an audio recording to track down the location or analyzing bullet trajectories - and it's certainly one of the better FMV games of the period.
Edit: Check out the screenshots at Mobygames, as well as their scan of the back of the box, to get a better impression of the gameplay style.
