Title: Ron Gilbert teams up with Double Fine
Post by: Cyrus on Sat 30/10/2010 10:30:33
I'm really suprised no one has started a thread about it yet. Ron Gilbert joins DF (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/27/ron-gilbert-reunites-with-tim-schafer-at-double-fine/) to work on some kind of secret project. He only mentioned that "It's very different from DeathSpank" and "Fans of old adventure games will like it", which doesn't nesessarily mean that it will be an adventure. Now we can have the first glimpse at the game's sketches (http://yfrog.com/ek1vikj), and to me it looks like something related to physics and matrixes.

Good stuff. Put out the fire in the boat? Something for the Wii/PS3 Move perhaps?

Old teams being teams again is always a nice thing.

I read about this the other day. It will be interesting to see the end result - here's hoping for something really good.

This is mainly good news to me because I can never tell the two apart anyway - still not sure which one made Deathspank clone and who did Brütal Legend. Psychonauts was cool, but I'm not forgiving either of them for ruining the wonderful artform that adventure games could have been (and shall become - cue the revolution).

Unfortunately no. Ron clearly stated that it will be an all-new project.

I am so excited about this.
I hope whatever they do together ends up on PC, though. :P

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but Gilbert has just posted some concept art for his Double Fine collaboration. The images can be found at his blog: http://grumpygamer.com/5694081

From blog:

"Here are a couple of fine pieces of concept art from the game I'm making with the amazing folks at Double Fine.  I'm so excited.  This is an idea that has been in my head for a long long long time.  It predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island.  It's a game that needed to be made. These are two of the playable characters.  That's all I can say right now, but more will follow later."

Considering you dug it up for an on-topic response, I'd say no worries. This looks pretty cool. Especially since the adventure game genre is dead. :D

An idea that "predates Maniac Mansion"? So does that mean it's NOT an adventure game? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!

C'mon. We all know the genre is dead... If they want to make some kind of profit, then it must be a PORN ADVENTURE.  ;D
