Title: Sound on old Sierra/LucasArts games?
Post by: Play_Pretend on Sat 07/01/2006 20:00:58
Heyo, all.  I went nuts for Xmas and hit up Ebay for a ton of Sierra and Lucasarts games, all the KQs, SQs, LSLs, Monkey Islands, DOTT, etc.  And yeah, legit copies, nothing bootlegged. :)

What I'm having trouble with is getting the sound to work on them...are they just so old that they don't recognize my sound drivers?  Almost every one pops up "Unable to Initialize Audio Hardware".  Is there an emulator or some other program that can help me here?  Any ideas?  Thanks! :)

Check out ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org/) or DosBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1).

Also you could check out VDMSound (http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/).

Great, keep VDMSound in mind as well as Pablo mentioned.  It actually handles some games much better than dosbox (Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites CD talkie versions come to mind).
