Title: The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship
Post by: The Inquisitive Stranger on Tue 14/03/2006 16:03:43
Hello, everybody. You may all be pleased (or terrified) to know that I've finally released my latest 2D adventure game, The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship (http://gertrude.deirdrakiai.com/). Although I didn't make it in AGS because I'm a horrible heathen, I think many of you will find it worth downloading and playing, especially if you're a fan of any of my other work (i.e. Cubert Badbone). And even if you aren't, well, play it anyway. You know you want to.

Yeah, at least interface-wise.

I demand that this game and other adventure tool-created games should be allowed to be put in the completed game announcements forum if it was made by a forum member.

And now, I shall download and play the game.

No, I think it's fine here.

Wouldn't it be a nice compromise if games made with other engines were allowed in the Completed Games forum, but strictly prohibited in the In Production forum? To make it more fair to the opposition, each announcement for another engine's game would need to have it written on the topic name or state it at the top of the thread or something.

I don't see how this would benefit from being in the Completed Games forum instead of here. I don't even see OS Squinky asking for this.

QuoteI don't even see OS Squinky asking for this.

She doesn't have to. Just look at the the squint in her eyes, like she's holding something back, and don't forget her signature: Actually, I HAVE worked on a couple of finished games. They just weren't made in AGS. like she feels like she's being treated like a lesser being.

... and don't forget, Squinky stole her name!

Quotelike she feels like she's being treated like a lesser being.

Don't say such things in the place of other people. If she DOES feel so, that's her own problem, nobody here has treated her like this.

Helm! I was just merely exaggerating with that reply, and I thought it was easy to tell by the ridiculous description I wrote about the picture of Maureen that she uses as the avatar and the whole squinky stole her name bit.

I actually don't think it's a HUGE deal, but I think that the rules could be bent for regulars of this forum who don't make games with AGS or AGSers who made a game without AGS.

Let's not make a deal of all this and not demand that the forums are used for things that they aren't meant for.

So, either comment on this game per see or not at all, thank you.

Yes. Lets talk about her game.

Squinky, I haven't yet played it but I will - it looks great! And it's good to see its style and also the style of the webpage keeps up your nifty Cubert Badbone look :)

Well, way back in 2002, when I announced Cubert Badbone on the AGS forums, I remember there being similar confusion pertaining to whether I should have posted in a different forum. (I think they were structured somewhat differently from now, though.) Oh well. As long as my game gets played and hopefully enjoyed, I'll be satisfied.

There's a walkthrough, but it's incomplete, and doesn't yet cover the particular path you've chosen...

Spoiler
Go back to the Spit Valve and see if you can get the Circle Worshippers to help you. Making them think you're their Messiah might help.

You don't just need any dessert, you need the SACRED dessert. In other words, you gotta go somewhere much fancier than room service or the SLUDGE Bar to get what you need...

GREAT GAME.........

Flocking

Spoiler
You're good....you've gotten so far...how did you get into the captains place? and as far as playing that game, I cant seem to master it.... Also glasses? poets poem? I dont even see those.  I know I have to distract the gift shop owner so I can look into the computer, but when I shoplift something, it doesnt give me enough time to do anything.  Somehow I know I have to put sleeping pills in food, but the pills need liquid and I am not finding a way to do that.  You also joined the club? and got trumpet player to play? I dont see a trumpet player in the band.   WOW........  By the way, do you have the poisoned dart that was shot at the queen in restaurant? I need help here..... Thank you

Rosie, the story path you've taken is different from the one Flocking took. (There are four different paths that lead to their own separate endings.) That means that the puzzles you have to solve do not relate to the ones he/she has to solve.

Spoiler
You should try and do something so that Chico won't come back into the gift shop when he chases you after you shoplift. Maybe if you could somehow make him slip and fall...

Thank you so much......... You have created a really great game....I am having a good time playing it.....Do you mind us coming in here for hints and tips, since we cant go into the ags hints forum.  I did what you told me to do, but unfortunately I am stuck again.   I have degree, potato chip, sleeping pills, vacumn, chef-o-matic, motivation book, poison dart, bobby pin, board, scissors, dagger, torn clothes, fish keychain, poem, delicious food, disgusting food.  I have to find Iggy, who I think must be that kid playing the games.  He told me how to get more points, but I have not gotten the 100, only 10 points in the game and lose all the time>  Is winning the game important?  Must I win at the game to get some info from the kids?
Any help would be appreciated.... Thank you.  By the way, I also downloaded your other game Cubert and cant wait to play that also.

Sure, come in here for hints all you want! (Unless, of course, someone deems it necessary for me to move to the AGS hints forum...)

Spoiler
Yes, you need to beat the arcade game. If you lose enough times, the kids in the arcade will give you hints.

I'll be very honest with you.  We have all been waiting for a game to play and I am sorry that the other players in ags will not find out about this game.  I for one was told about it, this is not a forum that I explore to see if there are any games, I usually go into completed games or games in progress like most of the ags players do.  What is the big deal if you didnt use an ags engine????  You created a great game and it should be told about...... Wait I have an idea..... I could announce it in hints and tips and let the other players be aware of this game.  that has been done before......Do you mind me doing that???? This game should not be hidden, it is too good.....

New question:

Spoiler
I cant find the receptionist......I have been wandering from floor to floor.  Any hints on what to do next.....

Then you should get a new habit! You should get out more, and start visiting AD (http://www.adventuredevelopers.com) or the underground forum of Adventure Gamers (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4). Then you won't miss the good non-AGS games anymore. (Such as TGTTPOACS and my game.Ã,  ;))

And a hint for you:
Spoiler
She has not gone far. Use a "special" action that have been of little use before.[/hide

Funny how I went around the whole ship smelling everyone, when the "thing" was right there in front of me..........And then I tried everything to get past the vulture and all I had to do was walk past her....Very smart of you....
Anyway, it was a great game............Will highly recommend it to all.

great game. i have played trum's game as well, and it seems in both games everything is really slow on scrolling backgrounds, and new areas take quite some time to load. is that sludge's fault?  ;D and is there a website where i can see other sludge games?

Perhaps. And try this site (http://www.hungrysoftware.com/tools/sludge/sites/index.cgi?type=gam) for other SLUDGE games. Particularly, I recommend Nathan's Second Chance (as well as Out of Order and my own Cubert Badbone, P.I., if you haven't already played them).

It's due to the antialiasing, which requires a somewhat powerful computer to run well. In my game, I added an option to turn off "special effects" for that reason. If you do that, the system requirements are quite modest. It should run decently on a 233 MHz processor. You can also turn off anti-aliasing in any Sludge game by creating an ini-file, but I'll let Deirda explain that one, if you want to to that with TGTTPOACS. (Don't want to hijack her thread.)
