Hey everyone, I was thinking and decided to make a topic where you all can post your very first backgrounds made with AGS!
That is of course if you really want to.
Here's mine:
Heh, go on laugh...
This is the first BG I made for AGS, kinda crap now... and this is just a screenshot from my site.
http://www.freewebs.com/tdrultimo/screens/screen-rulers-room01.jpg
This is the first thing I did with AGS though...
http://www.freewebs.com/tdrultimo/screens/screen-rulers-title01.jpg
You need to copy+paste... ;)
there we go, MS Paint goodness for a game I never finished but still had people download and play anyway... I'm such a jerk
this is zoomed in by 2 by the way, it's supposed to be 320x200
I hate you MrColossal, why do you have to be so much more better than me?
*goes of and sulks
well, i'm 22 years old, i have been drawing my entire life, i went to college for art and I've been pixelling and working with AGS for many more years than you have.
Experience counts for a lot, especially if you're only 12.
sulking does nothing, i sulked for a while when Apprentice came out because it was awesome, and Igor and Pessi constantly put me to shame but at least I know that I'm getting better and some day they will be dead....
er, i don't think that came out right
eric
The first background I did for a game was a 3D BG for Dark Hero that looked like crap.
I changed the style to cartoony when I was making the actual game.
Then I deleted the game because it didn't interest me any more.
Quoteif you're only 12
Er, I'm 14.
oh i was looking at your posts per week...
still, you're only 14... i've had 8 more years experience at drawing plus being trained at college and probably 4 more years experience at pixel work
if you stick at it you'll be amazing in no time
(http://www.sylpher.com/novomestro/stuff/bg.jpg)
MSpaint. Huzzah!
And that's over 3 years old now.
I started making my first game when I was visiting my sister miles away. So I don't have that stuff - but believe me it was goooooood. (neh not really)
This is the first one I made when I got home.
I think this was mine; it's also about 3 years old...
oldest one i could find on my pc, june 2002
(http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/apartment.jpg)
I am sure that this is a remake of a previous one, but I can't remember where I put it... And I'm not sure if I posted something before, I think I did, but, well... This works... :)
EDIT: Ahhh! Got It! Notice it's unfinished and the wings are different...
The final version...
And here's my first attempt at a background - I made it when I was 9 or 10.
It was for a game I actually finished(its over 30 rooms), but never released because it is crap.
It's cool for a nine y.old bg... and the sun and the clowds move! :D
Btw, the game wasn't made with AGS and it took me 2 years to finish it...
Bah... at least it was a game... a finished game... :P I have hundreds of good backgrounds and 0 ended games. :'(
It is a matter of time...
This is my first background. (http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/c/m/cmcleod/erana.gif.html) It was for a Quest for Glory fan game that never got off the ground. Mainly because the guys who were writing the story never told me what I was supposed to be drawing... grrr... I ended up using it in Wanderer.
Icky- I really overdid it with the blur tool, didn't I?
here's 4 from a game i was planning called "Ed Space"
(http://www.btinternet.com/~boyd1981/deck4.gif) (http://www.btinternet.com/~boyd1981/quarters.gif)
(http://www.btinternet.com/~boyd1981/corridor.gif) (http://www.btinternet.com/~boyd1981/airlock.gif)
Can't remember which was first, but it was for the same 'test' game I first started out with ...

:o :o :o
I wish i could draw like this NOW, darth!

That's a screenie though

From Dirk Chafberg, the biggest disappointment ever :P
Wow Ben, that looks great!
These are really your *first* backgrounds?
QuoteThese are really your *first* backgrounds?
Well, they were the first backgrounds I made for AGS.
Quote from: Zor© on Wed 07/04/2004 06:08:11Hey everyone, I was thinking and decided to make a topic where you all can post your very first backgrounds made with AGS!
I'd been doing graphics for over 20 years before finding AGS.
I'm know there were ones before this but I cant find them.
Dated October 24, 2002 if you wanted to know.
You guys do some nice stuff .. and Vel I have sons older then you .. :)
Dug this up somewhere...

What? Sorry I can't understand, try to explain yourself clearly, here there is people whose mother tongue is not English, please avoid shortcuts and slang sentences... :-[
He meant how come his first bgs suck and ours kicked ass :)
And candle, in case you haven't realized, I was nine then. In 1997.
The first background I used in AGS was the garden photo in duzzquest, but the first one I drew was this:
for my December 02 MAGS game
My first background made for an AGS game (if I'm not mistaken) looked like this:
Needless to say I never finished that game because there wasn't windows version of roomedit until about six months later and dos version just made me confused. It seems that this was last edited 22nd of October, 2001.

Thanks Vel... And Duzz... Is that a bg for Good Santa Bad santa?
yup, Good Santa, Bad Santa. First time I drew on a computer too.

This is my first background drawing, a rough picture of the 'fishing shop' that will be in my game, it's rough but i wanted to get an idea of how the light will look.

Oh shit, I don't know if I dare to show my first bg here... It wasn't that long ago, but it feels like ages... Damn, now I'm ashamed... But what the heck...
This one was supposed to be for a "The Young Ones"-based game, but let us say that it... Ehm, didn't go as well as I had planned...
Do note the fine examples of shading, colouring and perspective presented in this picture... :)

If you can call this a "background":
Nope, it wasn't for AGS but it was still the very first background I composed... I was 14 years old and Windows 98 was barely out. And the internet? You had to dial-up to get in! OMG!!!11
Dude that game kicked ass!
Darth Mandarb, wot game did that Boba fett thing apear in?

I'm working on something(s) right now, but when I'm done I intend on going back and working on it again.

What a bizzare coincidence, i did fan work for this game a few years ago, and its on the site.
;D
Here's an unfinished one from 2001:
Yawn!
I did this background last fall and was planning on using it in my first game. I never got around to working on it, and now i think i want to do something totally different.
It was a scrolling room, and i believe it was a 320 by 200 resolution.
Shawn :)
I saw your name in this topic and it sounded familiar, and I thought "Wait a minute... didn't he do the TDI fan art?!" and I checked and you did. I was just waiting for you to say it to confirm that you were the same person. ;D
(http://users.tpg.com.au/lukinso/bedroom.jpg)
This was my first background, for a game that never was finished. Its pretty bad...
This was my first background, from a game I was working on about a year ago. It was lost in a hard drive crash, but I still have this and one other screenshot (since I'd uploaded them to Neole's site). In retrospect, it might have been better that I couldn't continue the game. The next project I start will probably have cleaner and simpler graphics, because the style I used for this background looks crappy but still takes far longer than it should.
holy smokes!! I remember that background!
"Yeah ... did you get the memo? Thing is we're putting the new cover sheets on all the TPS reports from now on so if you could remember to do that ... that would be great, okay?"
Talk about a blast from the past! That was right about the time I started coming 'round these parts!
Remixor, so you have a game in the making? That's good to hear, since you're one of the people I consider to have great potential.

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't at the moment. I had a few concepts, but I decided they weren't original or inventive enough. This sounds cheesy, but I recently attended a lecture by Tim Schafer regarding character design and after hearing what he had to say I decided it's better to just wait until I have a really worthwhile idea.
I guess that it's just a matter of time then...
Proskrito, i really like those.
I wanted to ask, did you import it to flash, or what?
And btw, you guys have really nice bgs
QuoteI wanted to ask, did you import it to flash, or what?
thanks! :-* no, i just made it again at 640x480, and then resized to 320.
thats why it looks smoother. :)
Heh. Here's mine; they're from last year..... I was just practicing using layers and such. I think modified versions of these will end up in Quest For Infamy.......but here they are
(http://members.lycos.co.uk/gelbon/tomtns2.jpg)
They were fun to make. Hopefully someday, I'll get better! Practice makes perfect, n'est pas?
Bt
Here's the first one I ever did. I was twelve, and I was in a hurry, so don't be too hard on me.
(It was for a Monkey Island remake btw.)
You must be glad now you didn't finish that game.
How embarrassing!
Oh my god. Now that's really awful, Andail. When I posted in this topic, I thought "my bg would be worst", but now you posted I must say that i am thinking "phew, there's someone who draws even worse than me".
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/murder-room.jpg) Last year was 14

Mine. The haystack in the bottom left corner was supposed to be a S&M style inventory.
Haha, Clint Fastfood! How cool idea!
Hehe, I remember that one clearly, Esseb.
I can't remember if I liked it or not, though.
I can't remember my first BG. It's probably lost in the big void of complete nothingness.
This is the oldest BG I still have on my computer.

Andail: Nice to meet you... Craig Mullins? ;)
Andail, if you were 12 then, and you're 24 now, that's 12 years ago, was AGS out that long ago?
That's just total crap Andail.
Heres one of mine!! It is from my first game that never got finished!! Early 2000 late 1999 - Some of you might remember that piece of crap....
Rock Bishop: Vampire Slayer (http://www.ashton.b0x.com/rock.htm)
Its pretty sad but, close to what I'm capable of now LMAO:)
Wow, it's great to see everyone's first backgrounds!
Some of yours are extremely good, while others, not so.
Including mine.
Sorry to bring this topic back up - But it wouldnt it do more justice in the popular threads?
Well, seeing it's dead, no, but if it'd be alive, then yes...
Well then ...
/me brings out his defribilizers. Or however they're spelt.
