Hey everyone.

I recently tried the latest version of my AGS game on my old pentium II 600mhz, and I was surprised how slow it was. I got a little worried and started wondering if there were still many people using older computers like this. I'd just like to be more informed on what sort of computers my target audience uses. I might have to re-think my game if it turns out most people aren't able to play it right.

It'd be great you could post your computer's system specs on this thread.

Mine is a Pentium4 3Ghz, 1GB Ram.

Thanks to everyone who posts.

Edit - please dont use "poll" like titles, it's misleading!!

The problem is, what did you do in your game?
What colour depth and resolution is your game in? Are you using a brunch of complicated script in it? Plugins?

I haven't check it with "low end" computers lately, but I think if you're not pushing the engine to some extreme corner, most average computers can run most of the games smoothly.

EMACHINES P4 2.8 w/ 512 mb. Bought this back in July of 2004, and it's already outdated. What a waste of 800 bucks.

The game is using 640x480 resolution, 32bit color and it does contain some inventive scripting. but It runs perfectly on my brother's 1,2ghz laptop. I just want to have a better idea of what is considered an average computer around the AGS community.

cosmicr

its probably your old computer's graphics card.  try upgrading it, it would make a huge difference especially in 32bit mode.  but anyway I'm using a p4 2.2ghz 384mb ram radeon 9550 gfx.

Hm, let's stop posting our computers' systems right now.

If somebody has something pertinent to say about the functionality of AGS on older machines, let them speak, but otherwise there's nothing adventure-related with listing computer specifics.

I had the same problem with my old pc : P3 667mhz.
My own game didn't run properly. I found that out when I used this one, suddenly all waits were all way to short.

Read the first post. This is being asked for a reason, and people ARE commenting on how well AGS games run on their machines.

My PC:

3.4GHz Pentium 4.
1024MB RAM.
Windows 2000 SP4.
256MB nVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE.

Unsurprisingly, it runs all AGS games smoothly.

It's not a surprise your game doesn't run smoothly on 600 mhz.

Until very recently I ran a 700 mhz, 500 some-odd ram computer with xp and all the ags games were fine....I now run an Athlon 64 3200 with 256 ram....and everything works fine....

Mr Jake

Mine is:

P4 3.4 GHz
1GB RAM
nVidia 6600 256MB gfx card.

that wasn't really needed, but I wanted to rub it in AGA's face, again.

I have no problems running AGS games, I didn't on my old machine either, which was a great deal slower, (1GHz, 256MB RAM, 64MB gfx if I remember rightly)

Sam.

i never had any problems on my old pc, 500mhz, 56mbram. It was crap, but ran AGS games perfecto.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

AGA, I did read the first post. Still, many people seem to have listed their specifics without connecting it to AGS (more than in some rudimentary fashion).
I don't find these kinds of poll-threads too relevant, especially not in this forum, but I'm not gonna bitch about it.

I'm inclined to agree to a point.

So let's rephrase it:

If your computer is slower than 1 Ghz, please post your experiences of running AGS games on it. If it's faster than that then there's no need to bother, because we know AGS games will run fine.

Meowster

Mine is 1.2Gz with 256mb RAM and a GeForce 4... Crap, so I think it's worth the mention since it's only barely over 1Gz. It's never had a problem running any game.

AGS games also run fine on my laptop, which is ... um, 800mhz Pentium Something with 128 MB of RAM and some crappy 16mb Graphics Card.

Bizarrely, games would play incredibly slowly on another PC that my friend has, which although I do not know the specs for it was a brand new Emachine, so it couldn't have been less than 1.6Ghz at worse.

This information is extremely confusing, but there you have it :(

qptain Nemo

I use PIII 600 Mhz 128 Mb (DIM) and I haven't any problems with any AGS games yet.

fovmester

people don't listen, do they?  ;)
