Hi dudes,

To anyone who I used to hang out with here (quite awhile ago), I was wondering if by any chance, you might happen to have stored away somewhere some old copy of the demo of a game-in-production-that-I-never-finished called "Gift of Aldora"? A few years back I had a HD die with no backups, and I have no copies of it myself.

I guess it might be called gift.exe or gift.zip or giftofalsora.exe ... I cannot remember, I'm afraid.

I suddenly remembered it and thought it'd be great to find a copy if there's one still floating around somewhere. If so, please shoot me an email at kinoko AT kinokofry.com

Thanks! It's a long shot but worth a try.

Does this mean you'll finally complete it?! :P

I'm sorry I don't have it, I downloaded the demo ages ago, don't think it was copied when I switched drives. I thought it might be in the AGS Archives, but it seems no such luck. I know that the one I had was called "giftofaldora.zip", according to an old file list of AGS demos. I'm sure one of the AGS game hoarders will have a copy lying around somewhere, you'll just have to wait for them to show up.

So...welcome back? :D

Thanks!! That's very useful information on its own :)

Haha, this game is long, long dead in the water and that's a good thing. I'm actually embarrassed to remember almost everything about it, as we usually are with things from our younger selves. But, it was a lot of work and its a memory of the effort I put into games back then :) So I thought it'd be nice to have that memory available to show others a different time in my life.

It was recommended I ask Peder Johnson as he apparently has an archive of such things.

Another possibility might be the Internet Archive's WaybackMachine, Kinoko.

If the demo was ever stored on some website or other, just type in the the old url and search for it, there might be a chance that it's been archived over there.
I was able to retrieve some really old AGS games from the Internet Archives - while even the authors believed them long gone.

Might be worth a shot...

edit: Similar to this snapshot e.g.
and this one ...just to wallow in nostalgia! ;)

Hi Kinoko :-)

The aforementioned agsarchives is Peder's baby.

It might be worth asking Vince.  It seems he once mirrored it on an old site that no longer works (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=22799.msg287927#msg287927) but who knows, he may still have it on an old dusty hard drive somewhere.

No luck on any of those I'm afraid but thanks for the tips! I'd never heard of the WayBack Machine - that's incredible!

Yeah, unfortunately, when I cancelled that old site, I backed it up to a hard drive which since died and gone to the dump.  I was actually just last week searching all my files for something else that was on that site that I needed but appears to be lost.
