Hey, this is great. And I just love having to use keyboard shortcuts.

I'll take that comment straight. Glad you like them.

I'm still very attached to GGs right-click. :P
The right click I'm using isn't the best use of the button. I'll probably switch it to a secondary colour. I think that's what Graphics Gale does (from a swift google search). How does that sound?

Ah, this is what the painting part of the Walkcycle generator should have been.
So, when you adding onion-skinning, layers and animation, Steve? ;)
1. Well, I did rip off a couple of pieces of code from there :=
2. Never! It would require a lot of changes to draw on something other than the background, and to update the undo/redo. I suppose I could just use individual files as layers when saving and loading. BAH. You made me think about it!

I haven't been able to try this out yet, I downloaded it twice, but when I try to unzip it I get the following message:
I think a nice feature would be to add a capability to draw with rectangular pixels and perhaps a dithering effect so you can just paint on the checkerboard pattern, (with an optional secondary colour on every other pixel).
1. I just tried to download it and it worked fine. I guess just keep trying?
2. Rectangular pixels? For C64 artwork?
3. Dithering would be easy enough for the pencil and fill tools I guess (perhaps with <alt>-click) but more of a pain for the brush tool. Which did you mean?

Yeah, using predefined palettes is great, what would be even greater if I could add or change palette colors at runtime and save it to the palette for later use.
Regarding size: I was thinking of using this tool also for creating inventory items. This would be especially useful with the new palette import feature. For backgrounds this tool is lacking layers - I really need them because I tend to move and rearrange the objects and items in my rooms.
Edit: Another thing - would it be possible to use 'ctrl + n' for getting a new clean canvas (or a similar shortcut)
1. Hmm, I'll have to think about the interface for that. Any suggestions?
2. For inventory items you would probably want to be able to paint on a zoomed in area too. Getting complicated!
3. I can put that in, no problem!

One feature I would personally find very useful would be a colour picker hotkey
Also I drew you a crummy picture ;)
I await the day when the MSPaint game is replaced by the AGSKetch game - obviously the quality of entries will skyrocket :D.
1. I'll probably use <space> for this.
2. Thanks! Loverly.
3. Splendid idea. I didn't want to suggest it myself...

Graphics Gale's brush right click changes the current colour to whatever the mouse cursor was over at the time - basically a colour picker hotkey substitute. It's quite an intuitive system.

Ok, I'll do that then! Sounds good.

Excellent program Steve, like always haha. The pencil tool as said before, is pretty brilliant.  :=

1. Tried again, it downloads fine, but the .rar file is corrupt...:(

2. Yes, more or less.

3. Well, all three would be the most ideal, I suppose.  ;)

I was considering how one would accomplish the brush effect today, and I was thinking something along the lines of the brush defining a region, and everything in that region gets painted; odd pixels colour 1, even pixels colour 2.

I made a mock-up of what I'm trying to describe:

On the left we see that the secondary colour is transparent (i.e. null).
On the right we can see what it would look like with the second colour is set as green.

BUMP!

Steve, Is this still being worked on?

File still doesn't work for me... would anyone be able to provide a mirror?
It would be greatly appreciated, as I'd really like to try this :)

Peace,
Scarab

I'm still working on it, when I find the time.
I think it's usable as is, so the next release may be some time.
I don't know what to suggest as far as the file being corrupt. No-one else has a problem and I can get it myself.
