Presents

Not related to the film with Sean Connery

Sam Drake keeps waking up in Hotel rooms with the bodies of dead girls in the room and the police never far away. He thinks that someone is secretly drugging him and then trying to get him framed for murder. He has had some lucky escapes, but this time, the killer has made it harder for him to get away.

My first real game created with the wonderful Adventure Game Studio Game Engine features a gripping story with plot twists and a Drama Thriller theme. The game is short in length, but hopefully gripping dialog and story will make up for that.

You've written 'The main character, Sam Drake, checks his male (Exciting)' and in the screenshot he says, he has maill, so maybe you want to try spelling it mail ;)

Other than that, this looks interesting enough to play it, once it's finished, looking forward to the dead girls, uhm, I mean, the gripping story :D

Anian

Yeah, I was just about to say that, no offence, Stu, this game looks very interesting and I like the graphics but get somebody to proofread this before you finish.
I see you're a Brit, but still somebody else might notice things you missed in the text.
I don't want the world, I just want your half

After having a humorous thought about somebody checking their male  ;D I have since changed the error. (Almost got away with it too).

Yes, I am indeed a Brit. And with the game set in some unnamed American City, there are bound to be some things that are misspelled or have the wrong spelling, so having some people proofread the game is a good idea. I never was that good with spellims anyway  :P

Also, thank you for your kind comments on the game  :)

Bogdan

Really awesome graphics, and I think I watched the demo trailer of this game or something on you tube before. Good luck with releasing the Entrapment! :)

Igor Hardy

Looks great so far. I especially like the look of the main character.

But why no Sean Connery? :(

Snake

Wow, this looks like it'll be a great story! Looking forward :=

Yeah, there is a vid of this game on You Tube, but it contains some heavy spoilers, so I don't think I'm going to post it here. Thank you for your compliments though, I'm glad you like the graphics.

Ha ha, I tried to contact Sean about being in the game, but he is way too expensive! Thanks for the nice comments about the main character, his name is Sam Drake and I hope you will enjoy playing as him  :).

I have added a look at the games titles.

Spoiler
The titles do hint to a plot element, but I'm not telling you what it is  :P

Progress is coming along nicely. I have the wonderful help of Swordofkings128 with the Music and the game is sounding great. I am currently working through my to do list, which is getting smaller and smaller by the day. Here is a sneak at the what the last thing on my list was:

Update Game Title Image

Which you can see above  ;D

This looks really cool...waiting to see where it goes!

I really like the story and the marvelous old school graphics, and the fact you're releasing this shortly just thrills me! i just expect the plot and twists are great and original, and just dont fall on the "hey, it was HIM all the time" but, even if thats the case, if the puzzles and dialogs are good, i`ll be happy to play.

Hopefully you won't be waiting long. I just have a few more things to do, then to add in the new music and it will be done! Should be finished in about a month

The game is a little short, but I have spent a lot of time on the 'Little touches' hopefully things the player will discover and think "ooooooooooooooooooooooh". I got my fiance to play it for me last night and she was like "ahhhh, so that ties in with that" "oh yeah that was mentioned before", just the reactions I was hoping for. I've had positive feedback on the game so far, so I'm hoping people will enjoy it.

Loving the graphics! Wish I could draw as simply...  :'( I'd made 10 games by now.

Ha ha, I'm glad that you like the sprites. I got the idea for that from 5 days a Stranger when Trilby wakes up from his nightmares with "wide eyes" If you look hard enough, you can see other elements I "borrowed" from that game. It was a big inspiration for me.

Thanks Wham, that means a lot coming from someone as talented as yourself  :D

Just wanted to point out that I have updated the games progress in the original post, as you can see, we are near the end. I plan on finishing scripting the Music into the game, then announcing a release date. In the time before the release date, I plan on having some Hardcore Testing to iron out any kinks and spelling errors that still exist.

I've really enjoyed working on this project and will be happy to see what people make of it.

Tenacious Stu

A few updates:

The release date for Entrapment has been announced. It will be hitting cyperspace on Monday 31st October, also known as Halloween 2011.

Also, lightbulb games now has it's own Twitter account, so if you follow me and would just rather hear about Entrapment than silly things like 'KFC on Toast' then follow Lightbulb Games:

Lightbulb Games Twitter

The game is pretty much fully complete, I just want to get rid of any spelling/gramatical errors and also anything I may have missed. Due to this I am looking for Testers  ;D

This is all in the original post, but if you're interested please PM or Email me at stuart.lilford@googlemail.com

Thanks

LRH

Aw, guess I got in too late for testing. Oh well, looking forward to playing on Halloween. I hate that holiday anyway, so I'll be happy to have something to do! :D

Hi Domithan, don't worry. I only posted about testers a couple of days ago... I was waiting a little before sending out replies, but it seems you are the only one who opted for the job. So you're definitely in ;). I will be sending you an Email at some point today.

I still could use a few more testers if anyone is interested?

Tenacious Stu

Just an update to say I now have testers and have Emailed them a link to the test version of the game.

I would also like to plug the development blog, which has had a new post today:

I'm really looking forward to playing this next week. Looks very atmospheric!

buddha

Very nice! I like the graphics and the trailer peaked my interest! I know you're almost done and this ain't the 'critic's lounge' but just two little things I noticed:

1. the floortiles in the bathroom, at the bottom of the image, are missing a horizontal 'tile-line'. Because of that it looks like there are giant tiles towards the bottom.
2. Some outlined foreground elements/objects (bottles, bits'n bobs) could improve the sense of depth and also three-dimensionality by having it look less like all the furniture is on one side of the room.

Just trying to give some constructive criticism, with or without this, the gfx look great.

Good luck on completing it!

Stee

I saw this title and had to comment!

The first "game" I ever made was called entrapment. You can see my noob post here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=16295.0  :=

You seem to have done a better job with the title, I look forward to seeing this  :)

I've had some feedback from the testers that the atmosphere in the game is good which I'm happy about. Also, testers, if you're reading this: Thank you for the feedback it all helped wonderfully. Sorry for not getting back to you, I've been busy these past few days to do very much at all. Your names will be included in the credits of course  :P.

Thank you for he Critiques. I will admit that the graphics aren't the bees knees or the cats pajamas, but I've never really attempted anything like this before and so obviously my graphics will look a little amateurish. Unfortunately, I probably won't be changing any of the backgrounds. I could constantly improve and improve the game over and over to make it look better and better, but then the game will NEVER be finished. My mind set is that I will be taking what I've learnt through the development of Entrapment and using it when creating assets for my next game. This way I can alsways look back at Entrapment in a few years  and think 'I've come a long way since then' (hopefully, anyway).

Swordofkings128 has done a fantastic job with the music for the game! I've been meaning to tell you that the testers were fans of your work  ;). The quote was:

QuoteOh, and the music was really good, so let whoever wrote that know that he has at least a couple fans.

For those that haven't had a listen, here is one of my favorite tracks:

Regarding the release of Entrapment. I've been in talks with a couple of the Bakers about possibly including the game in the AGS Bake Sale. This would mean that the game will be delayed for a couple of months, but will allow extra time for some polish (maybe even update a few graphics). However, I am not sure of this. I would really like to hear peoples opinion on this before I commit to anything. Let me know what you guys think?

buddha

Quoteso obviously my graphics will look a little amateurish
There's always room for improvement, but no need to demote the work you've done, it looks great! :)

QuoteI could constantly improve and improve the game over and over to make it look better and better, but then the game will NEVER be finished.
And we wouldn't want that to happen! ;)

QuoteRegarding the release of Entrapment .../... the Bakers about possibly including the game in the AGS Bake Sale .../... delayed for a couple of months .../... I would really like to hear peoples opinion on this before I commit to anything. Let me know what you guys think?
I think the most important thing (beside having fun) is to finish the game, so you get to show off your work. If you feel like you're ready to move on to something else, then maybe releasing the game now is the best option. However if you have the drive to keep working on it a for another couple of months to polish it some more then why not? And as an added bonus you'd be supporting the AGS community by helping out with the bake sale.

Good luck on deciding

SarahLiz

Nonono, release the game now!!  In my opinion it's more fun to play a spooky game on Halloween...plus I'm planning to contribute the same amount of $$ to the bakesale regardless of how many games are submitted at once.  It's about appreciating this community and all the hard work you all put into it.  And I really do (appreciate it).

Your game looks awesome, and I've been excited for Halloween to come because of it.  But of course, you do what feels right to you...people will be looking forward to playing it no matter when it's released.  Just my .02  ;)

Sarah

Nedshi

I think it already looks great (this is AGS, we like pretty pictures but we like the puzzles and stories more), and it sounds like you don't want to be on this project forever.  If you release it and still feel like working on it, or it is missing a little something or other, go back and release a special edition for the bake sale. Change an ending, add one extra puzzle, touch up some graphics, whatever you feel like.  But I'm with Sarah, I think it would be cool for folks to have it on Halloween.

Oh, and congrats on getting it done.
Best,
Mike

Ponch

While I would love to have this cool game in our bake sale, I'll also understand if you want to release it for Halloween, Stu.

Really. No pressure, and no hard feelings.  :)

Tenacious Stu

Entrapment is now going to be a part of the AGS Bake Sale. I apologise to everyone who was looking forward to this for Halloween, but you are going to have to wait a little longer :(. I know that there were fears of the Bake Sale becoming too convoluted and that the quantity of games being included would affect the quality, but I simply could not say no at the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with some amazing developers that I respect deeply in order to raise money for a good cause. A big thank you to everyone who is supporting this and my sincerest apologies to those who really wanted to play this on Halloween. If you really, really, REALLY want to play this around Halloween, then PM me and I may decide to have you play a version and I'll call you a Tester  :P.

I hope people will understand my decision and that I will do my best to make this game as amazing as possible for the good of the Bake Sale and that I feel privileged to be a part of something special. Thank you everyone, you lovely lovely people you.

:)

NickyNyce

Good things come to those who wait....This was very nice of you to help the Bake Sale and AGS in whatever way they decide. I will certainly be contributing. Good luck polishing and can't wait to play it!

ShiverMeSideways

Hey, Stu, welcome to the Bake Sale, I'm sure your game will provide a huge boost in quality for the bundle, looking great, dude! :D

Well...Boo.  (Pun intended)   :P

Of course we will grudgingly wait & will enjoy it all the more.  Happy Halloween!

Oh no- can you report people to the moderators for excessive punning?  I feel like there should be some form of PUNishment for such flagrant offenders.

I'm PUNdering if this would be the right reaction!

Okay, back to the game: Looks really good and will fit with the quality stuff in the Bake Sale pun-dle, I mean, bundle. I was fearing that we would have no completed games in the meantime if everybody pushed their release date back to be part of the Bake Sale, but with The Visitor being released now, the wait will not be too hard :)
