Strangechicken Games is proud to present:

Fight For Life: A new original Adventure-Thriller from the mind of Aaron Ducker...

Story:
Jason Ridge's little brother Harley has been diagnosed with a rare terminal illness... he must make his way to the hospital, and gather rare ingredients to make the concoction that may be Harley's only chance of survival... but thats just the beginning of this adventure thrill-ride... Join Jason, as he makes his way thru, worlds of darkness and hellish realms where reality... is just as twisted as fantasy!

Are you game... to fight for life!?

Here are some screenshots:

Screenshot 1:

Screenshot 2:

Fight For Life will feature a full soundtrack, and full voice acting (hopefully, I still need a few voice actors.. mostly male... if you can help in this regard... I'd love to hear from you).

Progress:
-Scripting/Animation 30%
-Backgrounds/Rooms 50%
-Story 100%
-Dialogue 20%

Also... I am intending to make this into a trilogy and have all 3 games stories already fully written... each with a different protagonist and story... So I hope you stick around...

Aaron.

Igor Hardy

Woah, is that girl in the first screen trying to get her shirt off? If so you got me hooked. :)

strangechicken

the topless scenes aren't in the game any more... like GTA that was part of "FFL's" "Hot Coffee Mod".. and in a game that has a fair bit of swearing and some dark supernatural themes.. we'd hate little Johnny to be offended by some tits!

Iliya

This game looks like a "bottom of the barrel"... :)

And on top of the barrel there is a crowbar... :)

1st screenshot background is sharp, 2nd one is very blurry.

Eh... say what you will... everyone I've told the complete plotline to loved it... so i'm making it for them... because it has a deeper story line... that interconnects between all three games... but i'm not revealing anything... and all people are holding the storyline in complete secrecy.. its in the vault next to the KFC recipe...

After all I have a lot of different work to do (Writing a book etc.)... so for me to do this game... its a worthwhile project... i'm perdentic about what I and do not involve myself in... I'm a professional screen writer and playwright... (I just will never use these commercially... because I hate commercial theatre and film types)... So this project is a labor of love more so than just something to make something... because I won't make a cent off it... where if i was to write into another medium and get some commission it would be more viable...

but I'm making this for people who want something interesting...  plus i'm making it completely free and as accessable to both adventure gamers and new adventure gamers alike... I want something with a good plot line thats uber-accessable...

Its why I used a revolution style GUI... i find its the most simple and accessable... and i've modified it a bit so now it tells you where door exits are etc... I thought that new adventurers wouldn't be ones for pixel hunting sand walking around a room for 40 hours just to find where a door is (IE Laura bow 2... the extended museum... I walkeed aroudn there for hours till i found the walkthru and it told me I had to go to the left of the screen and it had more museum... that was a very bad set up...).. so i've made the cursor change to an "exit" sign when it rolls over an exit space...

and while graphically it may be a bit shit ere and there... I prefer to have a game that thrives on the merit of a good interesting story that makes people think... rather than just "well the art was nicce, sound was good" basic critiques... I've always believed its more about how the world feels rather than looks... its all about mood to me... but than... that might be my academic brain washing... Damn you university!!!...

That's no way to respond. If you're over 14 you should seriously reconsider your behaviour. Oh, and terrible use of emoticons...:)

albeit taken out of context for this... which is similar to Sarah Palin's comment on magazines "all of them"... you can change the question and apply it to anytihng... but it has no real context... its trivialising it... and my reference was to one hit wonder video game companies... "City Interactive" etc.. who make a select few low budget things... disband and are never heard of again... but can we stop show boating with our c**k's out... this forum thread is about this game announcement... not what i did or did not say in a prior thread...

Sarah Palin? Who is she? Is she a character from adventure game? :)

Indeed... she is a comic character from Sierra's largely unknown "Presidential Quest"... tho instead of seeing a magic land in her mirror like in King's Quest she could magically see Canada out her window.... very humorous game... check it out when you get the time...

Are you talking about the Sierra's character who forgot her lines, so she worte them on her hand? Oh I hate the american version of "Presidential Quest". Everybody knows who Sarah Palin is. But I wish more people to know more about the great American classic authors.

NOW BACK ON TOPIC!

I hope these are WiP screenshots, the 2nd background is really blurry and makes my eyes hurt almost as much as having to read your posts with all those ellipses makes my head hurt. I hope the in-game texts are in proper English. (Please consider that there are people who can "hear the voice in their head" when reading a text and that your writing style makes that voice sound like an endless monotonous drone.)

And since I love mentioning it: AGS has built-in screen shot functionality, so there's no need to use Printscreen or stuff, then crop them sloppily. (You'll want to implement that inside rep_ex_always though to make shots during cutscenes or dialogs.)

The dialog options are unreadable and in lores, clashing with the rest of the graphics.

Sorry for my harshness. Just my 2 cents.

Nope.. not harsh at all. thankyou for your honesty  as i understand it, it was proper critique and not criticism... and if i learnt anything in university if someone has an oppinon, listen, because they'll be the ones who influence the success of your product...

the game wil feature full voice acting as i stated in my original text so there is no need for hearing the voice in the head... I have that covered with human inflection etc.  I use a lot of elipses, because in my posts i'm running off the top of my head, so in a way it chronicles my thought process, its habbit from writing a lot of university reflective journals, sorry about that, but thankyou, I will take the things you mentioned on board and try to ween myself slowly out of elipses addiction

I'd just like to point out, i'm still looking for a few male voice actors, so if you'd like the volunteer, i'd be happy to hear from you

strangechicken

update: I got a few more animations and rooms done and integrated into the game, I've decided to do some of the voices myself due to lack of any other offers.  But theres still a long road ahead, I've decided to record all the voice acting at the very last minute after all the puzzles, interactions and cutscenes are done, that way if i need to do rewrites I don't have to hassle people to re-record their lines.

This is my first medium lengthish game, and theres only 7ish more rooms to do, but still some dialogue and interactions to do in the rooms I already have. also i've never done animation of the 3d kind (or any kind), so its going to be sort of amateur BUT if you lower your expectations in the cutscenes you may just enjoy yourself.

strangechicken

I've had to delay this a bit longer, but for good reason, i'm extending a section of the game to create an IN game rail shooter segment, so that should be a delightful new headache to make. But hey, if it makes the game more fun, why not!?

I also must apologise pre-this games release, there will be fair amount of actionish sequences, almost quick time eventish, tho adventure puzzle-styles quick time events not the (press this button 45 times in 23 seconds, quick time events), so it does break a few conventions of the classic lore of adventure games in that sense. But hopefully it will be an enjoyable game for you all and for everyone who plays it.

strangechicken

Heres some new screen shots of some scenes... the art work isn't picasso... but i'm more focused on writing a good story and telling it interestingly than something really well illustrated, gotta do what I can...

Well heres the new screens:

They're both complete, I only (besides putting objects in the others) have about 6 more rooms to do (1 regular game room and 5 shooter rooms which will be linked by SHORT cutscenes) but than i have to gather all the voice actng which i've saved till last in case of rewrites:

I know I need to refine the Walk behinds on this room... I may get around to that before I release it if I remember

Heres the image for the cover of the game, and a bit of promo for you all.

thanks for your feedbank and No, I've borrowed a lot of free content from the poser community sites such as "renderosity" and "ShareCG" and just modeled and adjusted them to my specifcations and added bits and pieces in paint where i saw fit to.  Most of which are okay to use because I will not be releasing the game commercially.

After what like an eternity of poser hell and 2 months of non-stop day-in day-out game development, I now am on the last mile of this game, most of the games screens are done, over half the games cutscenes are done and integrated and just a few more objects to put in, the script to make the last half puzzles work and the voice work and I will be ready to release.

Expected release date: Mid-late January OR early february

and as a little spoiler, here is a bit of concept art for  the game :D

Jason Rail Shooter mode:

A Not so friendly ghoul:

and finally, the Banshee:

I look forward to finally finishing it.

Aaron.

They look great SC, is there no way to match that quality in-game? AGS supports anti-alias.

I'm pretty new to the AGS system, so I don't know how to do much stuff, still learning! Maybe i can mess around a bit more for the sequel, unless its easy to do and i don't have to remake everything or fiddle around too much.  but thanks for your comment! I still have to figure how i'm gonna modify Ponch's shooter script to make a house of the dead style shooter interface (I figured i'm gonna have short first person cutscenes, and have created a whole huge 3d street block in poser, and will have the cutscenes play between each different shooter section screen. But I am keeping the on screen reload button, to make it more challenging).

I Would like to apologise, and i thankyou all for your continued patience. However this game is being delayed to mid-late february due to the recent flash flooding disaster in the city where I live in Australia. So there will be some delay due to this unforeseen event, but don't worry, I am still working on this.

I'd say being dry and safe is more important than an adventure game, so take as long as you need.

No need to apologise - this problem is an absolute priority right now for you! I hope you get everything well under control!

All the best and good luck for you and everyone in your city  :-*

Thankyou both for your kind words, its just things here have been a bit hectic, theres no milk, no food (NOT even bread), and the water treatment plants are broken so you can't drink the water because its full of parasites and such. Most of the flood is done with but there is much to rebuild. I'm doing my bit here and there, Such as i'm performing at charity shows to raise funds to help rebuild and give relief to those people affected. So it throws my schedule a bit off balance, but i'll try my best to get this done by february! I've done way too much work on this game to let it rot in development hell!

Heres a lil something for ya... I am aware of the fact is not the best animation since Don Bluth.. But as a wise man once said "Indie: you get what you pay for." I hope you enjoy, this is part of the intro at the beginning:

I just thought i'd post a little update, theres not many more cut scenes to do, and as it was when i started, the story is 100% done, Most of the game is finally built, a fair bit of scripting to do, HOWEVER I do require some voice actors, I need 2 males, and 1 female of any accent or nationality, the roles are as such

The female voice is: Miss Louise Wickham, A teacher of her mid 20's to early 30's

One male voice is: A blinded man reathing in pain (Have fun)

and the other male voice is: A business man (only a short cameo with a few lines)

If there are any takers i would be more than happy to accept anyone.

Its been a fair process, but i'm glad this is almost about to see the light of day.

Hey Strangechicken,

I'm looking forward to this one, the story looks right up my street. If you need any beta-testers, just give me a shout!

Sorry I'm so late on this thread, but I;ve just got one comment. In your post of 27th December, you said you're using lots of freeware 3d graphics elements from sites like Renderosity. That's how I'm building my game too. I just wanted to check that you are aware that, if you use that stuff, it's usually a requirement to attribute the creator of any graphics you use in your game's credits, even if your game is non-commercial? You might already know that, but I just thought I ought to tell you, I wouldn't want you to get in trouble! I only found that out part-way through making my game, and then I had to go back to Renderosity, ShareCG etc, track down every graphic I had used, and find the name of the creator, which took me bloody ages!

Anyway, keep us posted wth updates, and keep up the good work.

yeah man, i'm posting all their names in the credits under the section "renderosity and share cg team," its only fair to the artists, and its also a great reference point to the people who wish to use the artists stuff in their games!,  i've been keeping track on most things as i get them where they came from.  But thanks for the heads up!

Also only need one male voice cameo, and a female cheers!

strangechicken

I've finally got back to this after getting my affairs in order (Alphabetical in fact)... anyways, I thought i'd kick this off again with a trailer I mocked up from some of the cut scene footage (warning i'm no walt disney in animation):

Alrighty, I didn't know wether to post this here or in completed: technically the game is completed! Whats missing is a few pretty pleasantries (1 or 2 inconsequensial interactions) and full voice acting (theres no in game voice acting at the moment),  otherwise its the complete deal, all lovingly put together in a lovingly yet disturbing way (Kinda like a "KFC Classic Bowl") So right now i've just uploaded the version i've got to Rapidshare AND now i'm sending it out to my beta tests. all in all it should be out in the next couple of weeks.

graphics are really nice looking forward to this

As the observent can observe, I haven't updated this since 2012. The game is "technically" finished.. but unpolished and only about a quarter of the voice acting is done. However since I will probably never finish it, as I've moved on to other things in my life, at least never finish it in a polished version. So i've decided to just release the version i've been sitting on for about a year, its fully playable and completable. Because of the lack of polish I really don't want to make a "completed games thread."

This was be the first game of an intended trilogy, the plot of which was written. However in light of all of this, it'll probably just be this standalone thing. So I hope you enjoy it.

Anyway, you can get the game here: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/1768/

Cheers, Aaron

You might want to update the first post (adding a link to the download and maybe updating the screenshots (which are now missing)).  However, since this isn't in production anymore I'm gonna lock this.
