LBA had some beautiful interior scenes, by the looks of it!

It's a little odd that you have to walk to the path before you can enter your house.

Are there really only 3 locations?

This could be very nice when it's finished!

I need help on how to make:

left click- 'walk' and 'look'
right click- 'Interact' and 'Talk
(like 'Beneath a steel sky')

Dave Gilbert

I can't download the demo either.  But I saw the screenshots.  Maybe it's just me, but the ripped 3D backgrounds and the cartoony Twinsen don't really mesh well.  Have you considered redrawing the backgrounds?  It would look much more consistant.

I cant draw, anything  :-\
I got someone else to draw the twinsen

If the game becomes good enough i might try and rip twinsen  ;)

Dave Gilbert

Don't worry if you can't draw.  In general, crappy graphics are still better than ripped graphics.  It shows that you put an effort into it and people will take the game more seriously.

Of course, most of my games are RON games, so what do I know?

DEMO FINALLY RELEASED!!!!!!!  :o

jannar85

I don't know, but I got a bad impression of the screenshot.
First of all, it would be a lot nicer if you re-drew the backgrounds, and re-made the characters. 2D + 3D don't work well.

Oh, and remove that "pause" arrow, and find a new font instead of the standard.
Change the cursors as well.

I have changed the cursers, just not on the screenshots
and dont judge the game by it's graffics either
and this is only my first game!
and what's the 'pause' arrow!?
and I like that font!

and if you cant say anything good about other peoples games then dont bother

Jannar I don't think you should tell him what to do like that... but Dan, he's right. The 2D and 3D don't go together, and the font doesn't seem to fit in either.

But that's not to say it won't be a good game, but changing these little things will make it better. I'll download the demo later and try it out.

If you make it good enough, the graphics won't really matter. I wish you luck completing it, especially as it's your first game :)

But, Jannar was only really making suggestions on how to improve it, so you shouldn't be defensive. You should always be prepared for good as well as bad reviews.  It wouldn't be much fun if everybody just said everything was great, to be kind. Just take his suggestions and consider them. Jannar has been around here a long time and made some good stuff (Check his website) so it's worth respecting his opinion, cuz it'll only help you make your game even better :)

Sorry if I was rude, but I was just trying to help.
I know it's your first game. Mine sucked big time.

But I'm sorry to hear you felt like I was attacking your game.
I didn't mean so.

Well, to my points:
1. graphics can attract more gamers to play it, but it's the story that counts though. 2D and 3D mixed isn't really nice though. At least in my opinion.

2. Don't hide behind that "Hey! It's my first game! It doesn't count if I have bad graphics!" Because it does count. More people will play it. More people will remember it. I still remember 2ma2's first game, or even Chrille's just to take a few old examples.

3. What I mean by "pause-arrow", I mean the one appearing for example in that screenshot of yours.

4. That font is getting old and not fresh for us old ags-ers. At least I'm tired of that font, but heck, I can play the games anyhow.

Thanks for backing me up, Yufser. I was just giving suggestions on how to improve that game. I deal with critics, bad and good. The bad will help you improve. The good will make you feel better. So I felt like giving you some bad comments, because I think LBA 2D would kick arse, but maybe put some more effort into it, and you have THAT unique LBA game.

Hehe, to comment Yufser, yes, I've been here a long time. Almost 4-5 years I think?
But I don't know if I've released some *good* stuff. I've learnt from my previous games, and I'm giving the games a lot more effort that I would when I started.

At least I've learnt from my own experience, and you will see nicely done adventure games from Runestone Entertainment in the future. Some may already know about Roger Foodbelly, which has been worked on a lot more. I think I need to update JA soon though.. That info is getting old!

So my conclusion is, I try to help you learn from my experience, but you don't need to take my advice though. Just release it as you want. I won't have any problems with that.

jannar85

Um... Still here?
I didn't mean to put your project down. Sorry again, and I hope you return soon.
I don't want to miss out the LBA p&c ;)

Dan2552

I'm sorry too... it did seem like you were insulting the game though...

Minimi

I just played the game, and I do must say that I expected something better. LittleBigAdventure was one  (if not) the greatest adventures of it's time, and surely the most enjoying to me, and from a fangame I just expect a little more effort than just a 2D character with 2D objects, ripped backgrounds... and such. I do think it's a nice idea, but I would go for making the backgrounds myself. Like the fisherman, is just standing there without animation on the background, and that's just not right in my opinion. The main character 2D, and other characters 3D. Furthermore, I think you should implent more interaction with stuff around, and make people walk by. Btw.. about the backgrounds.. why not tracing the ripped backgrounds, and degreasing the colours to fit the colours of your character(s). Just some thoughts and honest critics. Though I was happy to see those moody backgrounds back.

*minimi looks around his room for the LBA cdrom*
*minimi needs to clean up room first* :(
