Hi ;)
Yes I made them. Why not draw all the background myself ? Because some of the fans REALLY WANT to see famous places of the M.I. serie !
You see, I don't want listen only fans who are fed up with walking in famous places and have radically a new game !

I want to do a mix between the two types of fans.

But be sure that the famous places will not appear a lot ! Just sometimes (rare).

If you're capable, i'd say re-draw the classic places from MI, it'd be interesting to see a new take on some of them i'm sure.

Thats exactly what I meant!
It will look alot better if you rather re-draw those classic places!
I think ALL MI fans will agree!

Wow, great to see more people interested in the Monkey Island series. It was a great game from LucasArts.

I'd be happy to join your team and help out. I'm working on a game for my Mom and others, but it's kind of on a stand still, and I need somewhere to put my creativity into.

Is this drawn by you (completely beside the Voodoo lady?), if yes can you marry me?
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

You Sir, are a fabulous pixel artist! Congratulations to you because I think your going to make it!

Some advice:
Monkey Island 1 and 2 were famous for their beautiful background images but not just the images themselves. Their tone, shade and color were unifyingly important. I'm an artist myself and I think you could make the following improvements to your background art:

  • Lighting - Your images are fabulous, but they appear far too bright as if the room is flooded with light from every angle. You need tone and mood to set the scene. Like movie sets, lighting is key in any presentation. Take into account all of the light sources in the scene and make sure every light cast an appropriate shadow and highlight.

              ---

  • Color - The color of the original 2 Monkey Island games were colorful but not saturated. Make sure your choice of color for each object and the 'scene' itself speaks true of the nature of the scene. It's got to feel right to you in the end. Dead wood is gray where living wood can be a combination of grey, yellow and brown. But use bright saturated colors sparingly. Too many and your scene looks like a set from a children's learning show! ;)

              ---

  • Tone - Natural shades can help tone your image. I consider tone a comfortable blend of lighting AND color. Keep everything balanced. Light is light and shadow is shadow. In reality, every light source has a rule on where it's shadow is cast and where it's light reaches. While you can break the rules a little in a game world like Monkey Island, the best images borrow the basic rules from reality. It's what we see every day and what we respond to best. Your choice of colors are great but they can be improved. Everything in your scene looks too new. Like a brand new set from Peter Pan in Disneyland. Although such a set may be dressed to look old, it doesn't always look realistic. For instance your door frame. Just because it has cracks and wood grain doesn't make it look old. Paint also wears and tears and fades with time. So keep in mind the elements that would be affected with age and your images will be truly glorious!

Here is an animated example I put together for you:

Here is another animated example of some lighting effects you can achieve:

    Oh, by the way (BTW),
IMHO means 'In my HONEST opinion'.  :)

    Your english is great, BTW!

I just want to say I absolutely love how the Voodoo Lady's place has a door that serves absolutely no purpose because there are no walls. That's classic Monkey Island "prop humour" right there.

Jakerpot

Nice game!  ;) wy don't you make all the graphics instead? Would look a lot better than the ripped ones!

I agree with you partly.
We all wish you luck and happy painting! All you need now is a programmer and a sound effects guy!

Many cheers and best wishes,
Sparx.

I agree about lighting being important.

I might be doing something like this in the far off future ...

SuperDre

OMG, if the new images are really completely done by yourself then damn that really looks like another new MI.. The only problem I propably can think of is the storyline, it doesn't really sound interesting to me.. but if the storyline is like your own images it propably will be great.. but I personally would stay away from the who shrink-storyline, unless it's about shrunken heads ;)
The dreamstory has been kinda done in 2, so why not just start 1.5 ;) where 1 left off, but I like the evil elaine...
If you like some input (or even more) just pm me, because you also don't really state what kind of teammembers you need more..

and OMG= Oh My God  ;)

What i mean is, why don't you re-make them? Draw them again, will be a lot better looking  ;)

Takyon

Jakerpot he's saying he's going to re-draw some himself and have some from the game without changing them. A mix of both.

The game looks really good so far chadiboy. Especially like the name.
ghost.

Jakerpot

I know J-Man, but what i mean is IF he redraw ALL the OLD BACKGROUNDS from MI it will look A LOT NICER and BETTER  ;D yeah, i like caps lock, please don't shout at me if you dont like it  ::)
Well, if he make all the graphics again with a modern tone, it will be a good game, an "Original Story Remake" or "OSR"  ;D
