Title: Puppet:
Post by: on Wed 16/08/2006 02:57:13
www.InvisibleSpiders.com is proud to announce:

Puppet

The Story:

A strange patchwork creature with a crowbar breaks into a mansion set upon revenge. Haitian Magic and souls of the dead crisscross this story of passion.

The Control method:

Being a fan of the old text adventure games I'm creating a visual game that only responds to text commands. "Go to Kitchen" will replace the old 'Holding down on the -> key'. I'm aiming for the puzzles to be fairly easy if non-routine. My primary goal is to tell a story with a strong sense of atmosphere.

Some screenshots:

Development Progress:

Story: 100%
Puzzles: 100%
Scripting: 1%
Background Graphics: 95%
Sprites: 50%
Animated cutscenes: 5%
Sound/Music: 5%

Expected completion date: June 2007

Development Diary:

16th of August 2006

After spending many months planning and painting (digitally) I can't wait any longer to show off my first adventure game.

5th of January 2007

Okay, so I missed my December launch date. I lost my imperitive and have only just regained it. I've completed the background illustrations. They only need to be resized and tweaked before being put into the game. I've also started work on the cut scenes.

I'm really pleased with the final location, I depserately want to share it but it gives away too much of the game so I'll just have to play it close to my chest.

Looks quite unique and interesting. The one thing I will like you to reconsider is the puzzle content. I usually find in games with a text parser that puzzles are quite important for gameplay.  ;)
Backgrounds look real nice but I'm not too sure what the character is supposed to be?!?!?

Goo, goo, ga, joob!!!!!!!

A puppet with a crowbar?  Humanity is doomed!   ;)

Heh, good luck finishing this, it looks fantastic.  I especially like your detailed backgrounds, and I'm curious about the text parser.

Just a better view of the main character. A preliminary illustration and the current design (specially designed to be easy to animate plus to be a bit creepier)

Hmmm. Interesting premise. Kind of evokes something along the lines of Being John Malkovich, in that an off-the-wall situation is handled rather matter-of-factly.

I'm curious to see how your parser will turn out. One of my issues with text parsers in graphic adventure games has always been that they never seem to "go all the way" - at some point you're using arrow keys to move around or pressing special keys to bring up menus. It moves the hands away from the typing position and, as a result, typically ends up feeling like kind of a forced experience to me.

Anyway, good luck with getting this one finished!

Good to see you are still working on it!

This just looks to good to never get done :P.

I really like the look of this game so hopefully it'll get completed. Been a while since I played a game with text parser though!
