QUEST FOR INFAMY: So You Want To Be A Villain?

Offical Website: http://www.infamous-adventures.com

Latest Update: 12-02-04

Set in the Speilburg Valley, 20 years after the events of QFG1, you have come from the northern lands of Britannia to escape persecution for some rather unsavory things you did. Ã, After hearing of the death of the Steward of Speilburg Valley and the unrest it has caused, you travel there to set up new residence. Ã, From here, you plot your evil deeds as one of three character classes.

Brigand - Using brute force to steal, work your way into a brigand tribe, and lead them to domination of the valley.

Sorceror - using black magic, bring the Valley of Speilburg under your spell and command, and rule with a dark hand.

Assasin - using your cunning and desire for money, gain influence as a hired gun - eventually, perhaps, becoming steward of the land.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game will be in the style of QFG1 VGA, and feature three different storylines for each of the classes, as well as the "basic" story that all characters follow. Ã, What this means, I suppose, is that the mini-missions and ways to procede differ from character to character, making the game's repeat playability level quite high. Ã, Earn different skills as your "infamy" level gives you more influence and power. Ã, Complete fighting and stats system included.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit:Ã,  Coming up on the one year anniversary of production for Quest For Infamy!!!!

This game is a beast for sure, and we've learned a lot about the design process along the way.Ã,  We are still in production - look for more on this title next year!

Haha, good stuff.  The thread title alone was enough to make me smile.  Good luck with this project.

Sounds like an excellent idea, I hope you can pull it off. I checked out the page, and first of all, the backgrounds I've got to crit a bit on.

The first two are mostly amazing. Mostly, because they are 90% Sierra made, ripped from King's Quest 5 and 6. The other looks like a bit was ripped too, but is also a bit original. Unfortunatley, the original stuff clashes with the fipped stuff, making for an unpretty picture.

Most of the Sierra Pictures were used to try and capture the feel I was planning for the game.  As progress has continued, we have created many works of our own art.

Dude Man

I want to help, but what do you need help with? Also, I think you should make original backgrounds. Have you desinged any charachters yet?

Blackthorne

Dude Man,

Yeah, original backgrounds will be made - I have character design working right now, but if you're interested in working on the project, email me at alexansg@yahoo.com.  I'll tell you more about what you can do, and the characters and such.  If you would like to Graphically Design some of the characters we are working on, that would be great - as well if you would like to design a background.  We have the screens we need plotted out, so I can just send you the information.  Write me.

Well I've really starting digging QfG this past year, it was all new to me, so a spin-off like this is exciting. Hopefully it'll be more than just a parody kind of thing and a really fun game in its own right though. It sounds ambitious but of course it's possible, if Tierra can manage something as staggeringly big and professional as KQ2VGA+.

I wanted to offer my help, but I can't really commit to doing backgrounds of that kind of standard. But if you wanted original MIDI music for this game I'd love to be involved in that in some way. I think I could manage some QfG-style tunes, perhaps with a more evil, dark feel like the game concept seems to be.

BerserkerTails

I present to you... My 10 minute attempt at recreating the Sierra-style sprite. the only thing ripped from an actually Sierra game is the head, but I changed the hair on that too.

My take on the Quest for Infamy villain...
I make music.

Dude Man

This is my attempt. I didn't put much detail in, it's pretty rushed but I think you get the idea of what I was going for. I went for the "darker" look. I think without the detail it still looks pretty good. You'll probably all disagree though...

Hey all, I'm the other guy doing the ground-breaking  ;D work on QFI with Blackthorne.

Dude Man and BerserkerTails, I like both your sprites.

Dude Man, what you've designed is exactlly what I had imagined the character to look like, almost Vampire-Like in appearance. Any chance you could redo the sprite with added detail. Blackthorne may have some other comments, I just loved the look of it.

Dude,
Yeah, we are going for a darker look for our character, and that design is heading in the right direction.  Berserker, yours is good too - developing this guy to portray that sense of cunning, deviousness, and power is a tricky thing to do.

Nice work.

Oh and really, Klitos is the one doing all the AGS and Engine work.  The games technical design is all his... so I think he's the groundbreaking one.  I'm just the idea guy!

Gonzo,

MIDI music would be great!  Feel free to send some samples to ALEXANSG@yahoo.com.  That would be most excellent if you wished to compose some themes.  I'm thinking sweeping marchs in minor keys..... and other darting themes.

Sounds great...I'll try to compose a few new tunes over the week or so, and look through my MIDI backlog for appropriately QfG-style pieces (probably not that many). Then I'll e-mail them on over to you and you can decide whether you'd like to 'recruit' me. :)

BerserkerTails

Dude man, nice sprite! That looks alot cooler, and more of a fun character to play!

I wasn't really trying to come up with a character design, I was trying to emulate the look of Sierra's old sprites, which I think you should do with the new design!
I make music.

Dude Man

Thanks all, I'm currently working on improvments...

Dude Man

I've made this fake screenshot using the updated Villain. He probably still needs work and I still need to do other views of him but I think he looks better, and now you can see him in context.

Gonzo

It's a cool sprite, in my humble opinion it could be improved a little though.

He seems to fit into the background quite well, but I wouldn't necessarily assume he was evil if I didn't know he was supposed to be. The dark clothing is a start, but I think maybe his face needs to have more shades of detail, or maybe just generally darker skin tone. A beard might be an improvement but it'd be hard to do clearly at the resolution really.

Finally, I think the fact his clothes are so black might make animation hard or unclear to the player, I think there need to be more colours to him, but still the darker hues, nothing too colourful.

Also - his right leg looks a bit odd at the moment, if he's standing still. They're also a bit thin.

Sorry that sounds so critical, just some thoughts - good work so far though!

Dude Man

Yeah I know. I'm gonna totally redo him - that was done in MS Paint, I just got the GIMP so I'll redo him in that. I just wanted to see if people thought he fit into the background or not.

Blackthorne

Dude,

Yeah - the design and idea is good.  I can see where you are going with it.  Work on him a little more, and make him a little more "Sierra"-ish and keep working.  Nice job.
