Darkdan

Hello all, Venator is my first attempt to make an AGS game.

The game is about the von Penumbrus, a family of famous parapsychological hunters succesfully fighting mummies, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, ... since several generations.

But... the youngest member of the family, Gilbert, is not really a promising hunter.

He is rather lazy, determinedly peaceful, not really very bright... and after some painful training sessions, this is the night of his first hunt.

To be continued... (with some more work...)

Walk cycle added by request.

Some attitudes of the main character.

Looking good, good luck with your project!

1: Quick! Post another screenshot before darth spots you! (Forum rules!)

2: I like the idea and I like the look of the game. Would be awesome if you could post a .gif of a walkcycle or something, so we can see how the animation quality compares with the stills. If it is on par, this is going to be an awesomely cartoony looking game!

Nope, only two (in-game) screenshots must be available.

Khris

This looks really cool, like a Clever & Smart or Gaston comic. Great style.
The screenies suffer a bit from being jpeg though.

Darkdan

Arj0n, WHAM,  Khris, thank you for the kind words.

WHAM, a walk cycle for you.

Mouth for war

This looks awesome. I love the style :D
mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer

Zenger

Excellent work Darkdan  ;D

It looks great and I really like the kind of story, looking forward to hearing more ;D

Midian Design

Yes, beautiful artworks & walkcycle :)

+ 1

That's a very nice work!
Looks interesting and seems to be „my kind of game“, so I'll watch out for this one  :D

Good luck with your project!

Gabriel_Down

I love the graphics, seriously looking forward to play this. Good luck!

Fitz

Looks great - very much like a comic, even more so with the blue-gray backgrounds. The only thing missing are speech bubbles ;) But I think the game had me at "Hello, Uncle Citric" already - I just like funny/unusual names.

theo

I like the style! Nice and clean.

I think perhaps some more tweaking of your line weights might go a long way in making this look sharper though.

Your story sounds like a nice twist on the old, no doubts over-used "schattenjäger" trope.

Good luck!

Darkdan

Thank you for your posts.

For now, my main purpose is to end this game at least at the level of what i have done so far.

Darkdan

Two more screenshots...

... Back to work, now...

poc301

I really like the graphic style.  I think I'll be playing this once it is released.  It is right up my alley: monster hunting type of game :)

Monsieur OUXX

There aren't so many games in the Belgian graphic style. That's noticeable.

CaptainD

The blue and black backgrounds remind me a little of Speccy games!  :D

This is looking very nice so far.

Snake

Wow! Can't wait to play this one :D
Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

Darkdan

Thank you for the kind words.

I am still working on the game : here are some attitudes of the main character.

They are already used (with other ones) in Venator's animations. (problem with animations is : it becomes fast a never ending work.  More animations you add, more you want to add).  ;)

Matti

Nice! I'd love to see all those expressions in game. Looking forward to this one.

SuperDre

haha, looks very entertaining and good.. Keep it up..

Darkdan

Thank you for the nice words. I am still working on the game : here is a new screenshot.

Dave Gilbert

I cannot help but approve of the main character's name.

Oh, and the graphic style too.  But who cares about that?

Darkdan

I don't see what you mean about the main character's name  ;D

New screenshot.

Matti

Looking good. This is not the critics lounge, but maybe you should tint the characters to better fit the backgrounds.

Also, don't use JPG, it produces ugly artifacts and is obsolete anyway. A better choice would be PNG.

Takyon

Love the artwork, kind of reminds me of the Pink Panther as well.
ghost.

Darkdan

Thank you.  :)

Matti, Venator is a story between living and dead characters. The living ones have more vivid colors (... and I'll remember to post png screenshots after this one  ;D )

Jackpumpkinhead

Keep up the good work! I love the way this is looking
currently on an indefinite hold.

Tabata

I am still in love with your graphic-style!

Keep up the good work! I am eagerly looking forward to see this one being released.

Darkdan

Thank you for the kind words.

Two screenshots to show other places of Venator.

WHAM

Still like the style. Still want to see released! :)

Tabata

Thank you for some more awesome screenies!

Can you already give us something like a status report about the progress of your game?

Darkdan

Tabata, the game is almost finished (already fully playable). I still need to add a detail here and there, so except unforeseen I can publish it soon.

Tenacious Stu

I'm loving the look of this game. Is the crow evil? I hope so. I hope he turns out to be the villain at the end. Glad to hear it's out soon :)

Darkdan

Venator is now finished.

I hope you'll have as much fun to play it as I had to build it.

Be nice, remember, it's my first game  ;D

You might want to edit your first post with that link as well!

Good job!
