AltarBound Studios Presents: "Elton John and the Cream Puff of Doom!"
(WARNING: This game is slightly adult, mentioning sex, vulgar words, homosexuality, drug use, red dye no. 5 and Mick Jagger.)[/i]
Story: You're not Elton John. No one is--except, maybe, Elton John--but here's your chance to try and tell him what to do. Presented with a quest, Elton would rather shop, eat, drink, sleep, go clubbing and engage in some recreational substances.
Set in 1974, Elton leaves a performance, on his way to the pub, when he is confronted by a Familiar Yet Strange Man. This man rants and raves and is hardly interesting until he tells Elton he must go on a quest--to find the Oracle of Rock and Roll, which will surely make him the most famous musician of his time. Dismissing it--as most would--as a load of grade A hooey, Elton ignores it until he finds out that Elvis himself went on this quest. And then he pretends not to be interested.
The full length game will feature puzzles, hilarious animations and even (hopefully) a pinball machine.
Progress (demo):
Elton sprite - 100%
Backgrounds - 100%
Character Art - 65%
NPC Sprites - 65%
Music Arrangements - 89%
And, because I'm an overachiever (sure) here are three screenshots:

Designer Diary
July 4th - All but one of the demo's backgrounds are complete, and most of the rest of the demo art has been finished as well. The GUI is nearly scripted, with a few minor bugs being worked out.
July 11th - Half of the demo's NPC spritesare complete. I have to drop this project a few days because of surgery, but I will come back to it shortly :)
August 7th - The demo's art, scripting and everything else are complere, but there are still some GUI issues to be fixed. As soon as that is working, the demo will be released.
May 30, 2006 -- Returning from a long hiatus, now that I have my own computer. the demo's bugs are fixed and I am now working on the remaining character art.
Brilliant!
This sounds very entertaining!
Will the game feature Elton John's music? And if so, will it be limited to music released in '74 or earlier (given that that's when the game takes place)?
Either way, looks good.
Thank you, I've been working on it since Feburary, and others joined in about a month ago, and we all hope it will be entertaining to both EJ fans and AGS fans.
As for the music, we're keeping it to about 75-76 and before, though we snuck a few musical anachronisms in as well, admittedly.
~~Bernie
Hahaha, this sounds awesome. Good luck with finding someone to help with coding, I hope it's a quick search, as I'd love to see this game completed!
Hey, looks cool. Maybe I can help you with the AGS scripting.
This is a bump, and a thank you to CoolBlue-Gord10 for helping with the GUI :)
Also, pushed forward the demo release date, and updated the progress.
~~Bernie
The demo is nearly finished--most the art is done, and so it's just a matter of scripting a lot of it.
I have to drop the project a few days due to surgery, but I will get back to it as soon as I'm able :)

[ off topic ]Imagine Elton John stumbling upon this thread! :D [/off topic]

You don't have to imagine it, everyone knows he visits these forums regulary

Ha! That's great. I love that little piccy, Krazy.
~~Bernie
Will you be making fun or ripping off Elton at any point in this game?
Oh, we'll be poking gentle fun at him, certianly. Ripping him off? Like, how? We are using his music. As great as original music can be, it just didn't seem right to make an Elton John game and not have Elton John music.
I respect the man greatly, and I would never insult him. And my game is made with this idea. Mind you, like I said, gentle poking is indeed in order.
~~Bernie
Ah okay, because I respect and love Elton Johns' work deeply too and I'd hate to see a game badly teasing him or anything like that. :)
I'm glad I could ease your mind :) Elton will be dutifully respected :D
~~Bernie
Hey Bernie, it's ZF. ;)
You better put Talking Old Soldiers or Indian Sunset in there! :D
Well, short of inserting his entire 70's catalogue, I can't be pleasing everyone.
I'm pretty sure Talking Old Soliders is there. Not sure about Indian Sunset.
~~Bernie
His new song, ''electricity'' is lovely too. Most of his songs are great.
Haven't heard "Electricity" personally, but it's causing a stir in the Elton fan community.
As for the game, I've been doing mostly drawing for it. The demo is nearly finished, completed save for a few character sprites and two arrangements. Pity this "Electricity"is too new to use.
:)
Oh, and Alias, would you be interested in beta testing the demo?
~~Bernie
Hey, this game concept is great. I love Elton's early work. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is my favorite album, and "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" is one of my favorite tracks. My band used to cover it.
I look forward to such an interesting title.
Bt
I'd be honored as long as the game is not 24 hours long. :)
Tumbleweed Connection is Elton's best album. Madman Across the Water is my most favorite album. Great stuff.
Has anybody here seen Razor Face? I heard he's back looking for a place to lay down. ;)
By the way, I'd like to betatest too, Bernie! ;D
Noted.
And everyone knows that Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is the best album of all time :D
~~Bernie
i love elton/2pac's duet 'Ghetto Gospel'.
will this game have any other music stars of yesteryear (i know Elvis will be).
-Blake
Elvis isn't in it, but he is mentioned, and a key piece of the game, I will say.
You can go to the pubs where Elton and his chums hang, chums who include Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, John Lennon, etc, etc.
Also, there is an appearence by the ghost of Marilyn Monroe. A tasteful appearence, I promise.
~~Bernie
sweetness
Fluke -- Indian Sunset is sampled in Ghetto Gospel. With me being a huge fan of the original song, I hate how the song is chopped up. But hey, you like it! That's all that matters.
Way to hijack my game thread, guys.
But you're right. Elton's great.
And demo is nearly in the beta stage....
~~Bernie
An Elton John adventure game...sounds pretty interesting. I can't wait to download it when it's finished...(hold on, I won't have to!) Anyway, good luck getting it done, and get well soon so I can stop being your maidservant. Bye.
Have hit a snag on the Save GUI, but hopefully that will be resolved soon...
~~Bernie
Hello, all
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am still working on this---the demo is practically finished, save for a GUI bug or two. As soon as this is worked out, it will be released :)
~~Bernie
Okay, just to let everyone know, I'm not dead, and neither is the game :)
I've worked out all the demo's bugs, and am now finishing up the character art and scripts, so pretty much I'll be able to upload the demo as soon I can hook my computer up to the internet--which I'll ball park for this fall :)
~~Bernie
YAY! this is great news. I look forward to it
