AGS...will it work well for my game?

(This may not be in the right board.  move it if this is the case.  sorry)

Ok.  I seem to remember making an account here like 2 years ago but I don't know the username, password, or email address I used and most likely, I don't have the password for said email address, etc, etc.

so here I am with a new account.

I have some minor experience with AGS, mostly version 2.72.  I use linux, but it runs great in WINE.  I am somewhat ok with the GUI, and somewhat decent with some of the scripting.  OK so I am not that good, but I know some stuff and have kinda used AGS before.

NOW.  About 2 years ago, after discovering AGS and messing with it, I had a crazy idea.  "Hay!  I am gonna make a VGA remake of King's Quest 8!"
As soon as I had the idea I couldn't sleep or think straight.  I tried to come up with some ideas to start it up, then posted about it on a bunch of forums and got criticized. (rightly so)  anyway then I just kinda let it fade out and announced that I couldn't do it.

all that aside, I am coming back to the idea with a little bit more knowledge, from my previous attempt and stuff.  Also I have a few people  who will probably help me.  Story, and everything aside, here is what I need my game engine to be able to do (and do it as well and easily as possible: why AGS appeals to me so much)

-Point and click with different walk/look/talk icons and an inventory and save game system (I know you have that covered)
-3d characters (looks like it might work via plugins)
-2d backgrounds with some 3d objects/sprites.
-640x480 or 800x600, and quickly. (I know AGS supports both, but I don't want the game to be sluggish on your average computer or even below average as my computer isn't very good)
-the ability to import 3d characters and objects from other 3d engines (this seems to be the main problem.  AGS has some 3d engine plugin things but are they compatible with Daz3d, blender, or other things those could export to like some more common 3d formats?)

AGS seems like it might work.  But there are plenty of potential problems.

any other questions you have relating to the remake... please don't ask.  I have an idea of how I want the remake to be like, somewhat but I don't want to announce it officially or really mention it.  I don't do good with PR.  I just want to develop until there is something to show for the time being.

thanks!
...yeah
