Title: Changing Rooms after Video Playback (SOLVED)
Post by: Scorpio82 on Sun 19/10/2008 06:17:44
 There are parts in my game where a video needs to be started during the gameplay, but then fade-out and go to the next room afterwards.  Unfortunately, after the video plays, there's a split-second flash of the current room before the fade-out.  This didn't always happen before and the room changes were seamless.

Is there an option or script somewhere I can use to fix this problem?

You could turn on a screen filling black object directly before playing the video.

I've tried that.  There's a brief delay before the video plays, so when I turn the black object on or set a FadeOut(64) command, the whole screen turns black for a split-second.

(Sorry for the delayed reply.  Computer was in the shop.)

When the video starts, does it fade in from black? Or does start immediately and is affected by the background (I'm thinking GK2 style)

If the former, perhaps you could switch rooms (and turn on a screen filling black object as Khris suggests) before your video even starts. If it's the latter, then I'm drawing a blank.... :( :-\

It's more GK2-style in that case.  Most of my videos fade in from black and can be kept in separate rooms.  But in some cases, the video needs to seamlessly blend into the game-play like a camera change.  It'd be nice if I could turn on the blackness while the video played.

I wish you luck that someone will come by and give real answer to you. Otherwise, you may have to choose which split-second flash you'd rather have: one of black before the video, or one the room after.

Also, have you looked at the ags_theora Video Player (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=34910.msg456858#msg456858)? I just know it's a new plugin for playing video. A forum search didn't reveal any others....

Thanks.  I'll try out the plug-in.

I don't use video's, but some ideas:

- Before starting the video, put the command SetNextScreenTransition(eTransitionInstant);
- Did you try turning on the big black screen-covering block after the video's finished?

I got it working!

I used the black screen object, but I created it as a character instead.  I don't seem to have any problems with it now.
