can't get "USA, ags_262" to open and work the right way

after i was done loading the "USA, ags_262" instead of coming up in a program it came up as some weird computer crap on Microsoft Wordpad ! What can i do so that this program will come up as the program and not some Microsoft Wordpad crap!?!?!?!?

try downloading it from a different mirror. just because it says UK, or SWE, doesnt mean its a different language. What does it say in wordpad, though?

There are 2 USA mirrors, so try the other one, if you want.

The file you downloaded is no executable but a zip-archive.
You'll need WinZip to unpack its contents.

Probably someone wanted to open a zip-file on your computer some time before you. If Windows doesn't recognize the file type (because there's no WinZip or another packer installed), it brings up a list of installed apps. The other guy picked wordpad, so your Windows now handles all zip-files as texts and opens them with wordpad.

Download WinZip here and install it. It's a trial version you can use for 21 days.
After installing it, you can safely doubleclick the ags-archive, as the installation fixes the handling of zip-archives.

Ok, my last question was answered, but now i have a new question.
ok, so here is 1st wat i do

1. on unzip i click "unzip and install"
2. THen it does that
3. Next it brings up a new window that is called "AGS Game Settings"
4. (the problem) but when i click on "Save" or " Save and Run" it brings up an error saying "You must create and save a game first in the AGS editor before you can use this engine..."

What am I doing wrong? If u could try and reply ASAP it would be greatly appreciated

you shouldn't start a new thread for this.

anyways, you have to go to the folder where you unzip and installed ags and execute the "agsedit.exe"...

Ok, probably my last question about how to get this thing even STARTED! Ok, which one of the downloads, on the AGS download page, is the ags file that you can actually start making something on??? (or is it somewhere else?)

Do not use winzip's "Unzip and install" option, just choose "Unzip". Then, run the AGSEDIT.EXE program from the folder where you unzipped it.

Remember, there's absolutely nothing to install in an AGS package.

I think the setup.exe may be renamed to something else (like agsset.exe, etc.) to avoid confusions (just add a note in the manual to rename it to setup.exe if people like to distribute their games in like acwin.exe+acgame.ags form), as it would be renamed to winsetup.exe (adding the name of the game executable to it as well) when a game is compiled anyway.
