Title: Multiplayer Online?
Post by: PsychicHeart on Thu 21/04/2005 04:00:29
Is there a way to make the ability for two people on different computers, in different places ( cities, country even maybe ) to play my game, as in DeathMatch Style? ( Or possibly Co-Op. ) If there is thanks.
From Blake.
PS: Preferably NO SCRIPTING, but if neccessary dat's ok.

Not possible without using a plugin, and fair amount of scripting.

QuotePreferably NO SCRIPTING

Haha, you wish! ;)

There's the TPC/IP plugin (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=4343), but there are no games that use it yet. Good luck!

Aw hell to that.
But is there a possibilty for  a tab to put on the game, where you can click on it and you can make an online Scoreboard?
Like in games like Highway Pursuit, Runescape a.s.o? Like ranking boards, but Online? So that the program can actually track their score ( So that people who got like 5 points don't bs that they got 200 ) ?
Can anyone help???

If you wish hard enough, maybe it will come true.

There's no easy way, all you can hope is for someone to make it for you, if you can't work out how to use the tcpip plugin to do it.
I'd give up on it, it's not that important surely.

And that's what we're actually telling you. Unless there're someone very interested in the matter, you're on your own if if really want to do that.

Using AGS to create a multiplayer game has some difficulties beyond how you will create it.
First of all, it must be REALLY EXCITED to make players to join in your game (in my opinion). I don't doubt about your creation-skills, but i don't think that you can reach the quality of counterstrike for example.
It will be interesting to find out how you will create a multiplayer game only for your education. But don't expect hours of multiplayer-gaming with users of AGS.

Yes, but depending on the controls, since there's only one mouse supported you can't have the two players using a mouse simultaneously (of course it's completely alright if there's only one player player at one time). It can be done if both players use keyboard (or one mouse, one keyboard). That involves scripting for the obvious.
So far there're some tiny non-adventure AGS games which support 2-player simultaneous gameplay already, like this (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=67) for example.
