a) why did you originally post this in the LucasArts GUI thread? Im sure this problem relates in no way to that.

b) what type of music format are you wanting to use?

c) what steps have you already done, and whats causing your problem?

Did you follow the steps in the AGS BFAQ, and the manual?

I'm having this problem too. I can't get the music to play in my game. At all. I just started making this game the other day and I'm working on the first room, if the music 0 default thing has to do with this. I am also using a WAVE file in this case, to, in case you wonder. But I've looked through some of the FAQs around here along with the manual, but since I can't look through everything (I'm 15 and have a rather grumpy dad about computer use, but the one I'm making the game with is in my room without internet, hehe), and decided to try and be cool by looking around as much as I could first, but I still need to know-

1) How I should name the music files. I read and tried naming them MUSIC* (*being the number) and on another site that you can't use numbers over 120, but I even tried naming and using MUSIC1 and still got nothing).
AND
2) What exactly to do with the play music on room loadup thingy, it's checked but I'm still confused by the fact that no matter what I do, the frekin music won't play! ??? (I figure answering the first will help me get 2 figured out)

Name the songs Music1.wav or Music1.xm or Music1.mid or whatever number you wish to use. Copy the songs into your game's root folder (NOT the game's compiled folder or the AGS root folder). Check the play music checkbox in room properties and type in the number of the song you want to play. (Note, ONLY the number, not the entire filename).

Hope this helps.

???OK, now I'm gonna bang my head against the wall for a little while. This thing is NOT WORKING. I named it music1, MUSIC1, and Music1, and still pffftttt. And yes I checked my volume controls, I tried raising the level to even loudest, but still nothing.
Maybe I should name it something else?

Ah. Are you perhaps using a non-standard compression for your wave file? Try putting a midi in your game as a test  and see if the midi plays. If it doesn't, then I'm completely stumped.

Ah-HA!  :o THAT's the problem. Odd, though, the WAV plays in Windows Media Player and everything else, it just freaks out here.
You think I should try opening the file in my WAV editor, lower the quality and save it again?

I don't think the quality has anything to do with it, however, if the WAV isn't saved in a standard windows PCM format it could cause problems with AGS. Make sure you are not using MP3 compression or any other form of wave compression, since some encoders are a bit incompatible with AGS., and using MP3 compression on a WAV, AGS doesn't always seem to recognise it as a wav file.
Also, you can opt to convert the wave completely to Ogg or MP3 format, which saves you space.

My best advice is to download the Demo for AGS. Then play it to see what it does. Then load the room and check out the scripting sections. This will show you how to add music messages and fade ins. Good luck.

UPDATED BFAQ ENTRY: http://bfaq.terran-x.com/#audio02

I also cleaned it up a little bit so it's easier to read and understand.
