Title: problem to start a (any) game
Post by: on Tue 18/02/2003 09:47:52
Hello,
this is the first time I post a message, and I have to say that I don't know a lot of things about technical questions, so propably I am doing something very simple wrong......
Well, here is the problem
1. I tried to make my own game but it is as if my mouse is not responding..... I mean that I cannot move my character, I can't exit... I see the inventory but it is as if all the "buttons"are inactive. (I have check that I am on a walking area and I have tried various coordinates)
2. Thinking that i was doing something wrong, I downloaded some ready- made games....  For instance, I installed "Gaea Fallen". I normally entered the start meny and here again I could do nothing. Neither start a game, nore exit.... But everething I could control with the keyboard (save game, quit....) worked just fine- not pressing ok with the mouse of course but with enter.....

Can anyone help me to find out what I am doing wrong?

PS. I have a similar - I think - problem with Cryo's "China". At the start menu, I can do nothing.... They told me to make sure to close all the other applications, but it made no difference. ???

Strange problem... Probably has something to do with your mouse ( or the driver ).

Are you using a wheel mouse or whatever?
If there's a driver loaded at window$ start-up (which resides on the system tray), try disabling it and see if that helps.

I have a 3- buttoned mouse..( the central one is undo)

I have tried to see if I can do something with my mouse settings but the only thing I could change had to do with the speed of the pointer...

My mouse is Keymouse, with software version 3.0
I just found another one, (Genius), with central wheel that I am going to try. I'll let you know of the results...

Maybe you have installed a program like TouchPad or anything that has something to do with the mouse (drivers ?) and isn't compatible with ags ?
What version of windows do you use ?
Have you tried the game in a windowed mode?
Have you installed some drivers for your mouse, but not the one included with windows?
Do you press on buttons hard enough ? :P

I have no other program installed thet has something to do with mouse drivers.
well, my mouse had its own drivers but I have unistall it and left the ones with windows... (I have windows 98 Plus).
I Have tried the windowed mode, with no difference...
Could it be a problem with my graphic drivers? If you think it would be helpful, I can post my stystem configuration, as provided by DxDiag.

Hello again,
after all this time, I just find again the time to try to understand what's going wrong with my computer.... As I said before, I cannot play any game based on AGS. not only that, but when i tried to create my own , I still couldn't do anything. I cas see the menu but I cannot press any "button". I have checked my mouse drivers- they are microsoft compatible- and I have updated my card drivers. I would like to send you my DxDiag. maybe you could understand what I am doing wrong. Where sould I post it?

Uhm Hey D

I think you may have stumbled across the problem, in the reply before last.  Before doing anything else try installing the drivers that actually came with the mouse. ::)

You could always just uninstall if it doesn't work right?
