When I'm both drawing and importing images into my game I don't know how to make sure things are the right size.  It's just a guessing game!  I don't know how large to make the sprites and backgrounds so that they are the size I need them to be in the game.

I tried exporting a sprite to a bmp and used that as a guideline making sure it was exactly the same size.  But when imported it was still a completely different size than the one I exported!  What's the deal?

what res is your game? you know when your import the pictures you can actually make them for a specific res by checking one of the two boxes at the top of the import window. hope that helps

jonathan

the res is 640 x 480.  I have two guys drawing the backgrounds and sprites, what should I tell them to make sure they make them the correct size?

P.S. They won't have the exported sprites as a guide, so I need to know what to tell them.

Mr Jake

well the backgrounds need to be the same size as the res. And the sprites need to be the size you want them to be relative to this.

jonathan

How do I use the res as a guide?  It's 600x480.  I don't see anything in paint about resolution.

Well, for paint, just set the attriubuted to 640X400 pixels for rooms. For objects in those rooms, find out how big they need to be, make sure they size up in the actual room, when you're drawing everything. Make the objects the size they need to be...if your animating an object make sure that all the pictures for the animated object are the same size, and when importing to the engine click the set to 640x400. That should relieve you of any sizing issues, as far as the engine is concerned. If this didn't answer you're question...please explain in more depth and I or someone else will try to answer your question.

Ize

I have a question, and as you might have noticed this is my first posting here.
I have just Ms Paint (I'll get something later) and I would like to know how do I fix the bitmap to the 600x480 size, because the AGS tell me that my backround is too big or too small.
Feel the Ize!

jonathan

Okay, how do you set the "attributed" to 600x480 in paint?  (thanks so much for being willing to help an idiot like me!)   ;D

jonathan

Oh, okay.  I clicked on "attributes" and changed it.  I dont' know why I couldn't see it before.  Now that I've got it the right size, how can I use this to determine the size of the character sprites?  (in other words, what do I tell the guy that's drawing the sprites?)

Ize you want 640x200 not 600x480.

To do this...on MSpaint...press ctrl+E and that should bring up the attributed menu.

Mr Jake

Jonathan, you decide how big the character sprite should be depending on the background.
