Hello... as above I'm an real n00b in ags and have just started it for real now.. I'm making this monkey island game but i think this default menu to use, walk and so on is not what i wanted.

I want the menu thats in Monkey Island where it says Pick up, Walk to, Push, Pull
and so on. Can I get it please I searched everywhere but all i got is an .agt file and i need and
.gui file dont I??

Anyhow as i said I'm really new to this and I dont even know the difference petween GUI and Template (if there is any :P) well can someone help me out??

And by the way, how do i use the GUI or whatever in AGS so when i press Pick Up for example he will pick up something? Thanks very much.

Copy the .agt file to AGS' home dir, then run AGSEdit, select "New Game", then the newly appeared "Monkey Island", or whatever its name is.

A GUI is a single Box, e.g. with buttons or text on it. A template like the Monkey Island one contains already the game's skeleton: usually some GUIs (like a save/load GUI), the interface, inventory, cursors and so on.

IIRC, the functionality of the MI-template is well documented.

Make sure to read the Manual, do the included tutorial and search the forums. I can't think of a single beginner's question which hasn't been answered here.

a) use descriptive post titles next time!

b) read the documentation that comes with the .agt file you have found. It will say what ags version that it was made for. I heavily suggest that you use that version, and not the latest ags version. Newer versions have caused some problems with the older template files. We can help you find what version you need if you reply with what version it suggests.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Well hello Lars.  Khris beat me to it, but just to reiterate:

RTFM n00b!

:=  Also, you can look here for the LucasArts GUI help thread.  The link goes to page 15 which is where the 2.7 compatible help starts at.  And you know if you need help you can message me on MSN (but listen to what I say...I told you five times not to put the file name, and only put the number into the PlayMusic function!!! :P).

[EDIT:]

1) Scummbuddy posted while I was typing this.
2) He has some valid points.
3) My 2.72 (quite possibly 2.71) compatible template should be coming soon, minus the dialog system (for those who don't know...I'm working on that one)).

Don't use that one, it's b0rked. Use Prokritos, definately...

monkey0506

Define "b0rked".  Proskrito's is 2.62 compatible.  So anyone using 2.7 or later wouldn't find much use in it...unless they were willing to rescript the entire thing.  Which I think might defeat their reason for downloading a template in the first place.
