"A lot of rust...." there are many places that have gone rusty over the years and everywhere in the world. Use your imagination! ;) You are inspired by the beauty of the ageing building or piece of rusted object in a place.

Guidelines: Limit of colours - unlimited, not too fussed as long as it can work in the AGS editor, though the size should be kept to a maximum resolution 800x600. Matching the story above, the background could be by the sea, in the country, in the woods, in a paddock, in the city, ANYWHERE as long as it contains some form of rusty object or building that catches the eye and provides for an interesting area to explore.

Voting: Will start 23rd Feb at 00.00am and end the same day at 23.59pm on the AGS clock time at the top of the screen ;).

--- Cut and paste from previous competition posts ---
Voting categories

Idea - The underlying idea to the background. Doesn't
necessarily have to coincide perfectly with the theme of the
week, just strike you as interesting/amusing/inspiring; a place
you'd really enjoy visiting within a game.

Atmosphere - How well the image manages to evoke a certain feeling or mood.

Design - How well the elements in the image are designed,
such as landscapes, buildings, decorations, clouds, doorknobs,
etc.

Composition - How well the elements in the image work
together/are positioned in relation to each other.

Functionality - How well it would work when adding sprites, i
ncluding appropriate walking distances, a good angle for
character sprites, clever walkway solutions, easily understood
exits, etc.

Technique - How well the ideas are executed in form of
rendering.

Anyone is welcome to vote, and it would be great if all
participants could provide their own. You don't have to vote
in all categories, and if provide multiple names in a category,
then please be clear about which one is your pick.

Ok. Here is my Background.

I tried making it look as rusty as I could. I mostly concentrated on the sign but tried making everything look kind of tan for a rust feel.

Not sure if it looks much like it, but the whole thing is supposed to look rusted. I may touch it up a bit.

Okay, here's a short one, a bit out of perspective and rushed, though.

I bit messy, nihilyst, but it creates a really effective atmosphere and I like your colour choice and I suppose it is meant to be rusty. Nice scene! I'm always happy when I see pixel art in the backyard blitz challenges.

Good work! Reminds me of Monkey Island...

Ok, nothing special really. The purpose wasnt anything else then practice some color/light composition and not making a "cartoon" one, so I just made a quick scene in googlesketchup with basic shapes and loaded in to photoshop for coloring and details(if you can call it that :) ).

The door are rusty if its hard to spot :)

All the entries are great, but I love this one in particular. The seedy underworld of Latin America, or like the book Brighton Rock.

Palais Jaune was built in 1857 by Ferdinand de Sourmency, Duke ok Ackæ. When the last duke died, in 1923, it became a public building attached to the City Hall.
In the 50's, strange things started happening. Some people wanted to put the building down, but, as a historical place, nothing could be done. So, Mayor Jacques Anvillain decided to close it totally and let time make its part.

Hello everyone! WOW I am staggered by all the entries. All of you have really put in the effort and each one looks so beautiful! It will be very hard to vote which ones I'm sure! ;) Ok the voting can begin now!! It will end tonight at the very last minute of the last hour :) but if you guys need an extension in voting, or there aren't enough votes or whatever, let me know here and I will extend :). I am going away for the weekend for a reunion but I should still have access to the web where I will be at. Once again, well done guys! Your rust concepts in the images really are breathtaking.
