Background Blitz: Horror Scene (Winner: Loominous!)

Foreword
You like those creepy rooms in certain games? Yeah, horror giving rooms! From a torture chamber, to an empty gas chamber, to a room full of bodies.

Rules:
Make a background that can either disturb, disgust or give the chills to someone.

"I love horror!" - Asuka

~~The contest will be running until the 21st of May.~~

Voting: Same as the last time, public voting after the contest has concluded and a majority vote will determine the winner!
Here are the criteria for voting.

Idea - How strong and original is the concept? Is it a good response to the contest topic?
Technique - How well executed is the background as a piece of art within the chosen style?
Usefulness - How well would it work as an adventure game background, and how useful would the background be in a game?

I don't suppose you'd accept something hand drawn? I'd love to enter but I haven't got the time to finish it in paint. If not, submitting for fun is always good too.

Ha ha that's cool!:) I have another version of that scene, but with a dude instead. It actually features in my upcoming game ( I hope I won't get eliminated for that:)) but only for about 10 seconds.

My initial intention was to make some scary voodoo hut, but since I don't really like unpleasant places, it ended up a rather cozy environment.

Idea - Alan v.Drake. More original than blood splatter, and does pretty well at giving horror
Technique - pilferinloot. Interesting style. Reminds me of Edward Gorey
Usefulness - Mad. I could see myself trying to escape from this room.

Idea - Alan v.Drake: I just like the whole randomness of it: eyeballs, deformed bird-like carcasses and whatever that moonstone thing below the tree-chalice(?) is! One constantly picks up on new little details.
Technique - Alan v.Drake: The collage-like effect of the different elements somehow adds to the creepiness, methinks.
Usefulness - pilferinloot: It has a defined walkable area, a lot of potential hotspots, and a sense of purpose, (since the eye seems to draw one in). Very useable indeed!

Idea - I'm gonna go with Grim here, because I wanted more dead chicks and blood

Technique - Hard to choose, but I'm saying pilf here.
Usefulness - Mad, pilf, loominous seem to have a background that would work well. But I'm closing my vote to Mad.

I'm also gonna vote, if anyone feels its wrong please tell me.
I'm barely affecting the votes, but if one things it's not correct, I'm fine to remove my votes or not take them into account.

Firstly, congrats on everybody's! They look awesome, hats off to all.

My votes:

Idea: loominous
My imagination is bubbling along with with whatever is in that cauldron. Where is this room, and who or what uses it for cooking something? I think the concept is strong and is a good answer to the topic. I KNOW it's not hardcore horror like some of the others, but if you look a bit deeper I think it has all the potential of the more 'bloody' entries.
Technique: loominous
Although all the BG's submitted are well done, I think focus must not be lost that the art has the final purpose of being used in a game, no? loominous's art is still atmospheric but well defined walk areas and hot spots are clear. While MAD's also has this, it is just a bit too empty.
Usefulness: loominous
All the other BG's have either not clear use in AGS (if you're thinking of putting a character in rather than a cutscene) or then, like MAD, there is not enough to interact with.

Idea - loominous -- hard one since most seem to be in the same track using blood,gore and such. I tend to agree with Xellie in this one, the idea stood out the most(with a close up with Jenn).
