VACATION

Norman Rockwell - Family Home from Vacation

What do you like to do during your vacations? Maybe you like going to the sea, enjoying the sun and bathing. Or maybe hiking on a mountain. Or going on a bike through the countryside. Explore the ocean on a raft. Or perhaps, you just like to stay home and relax!

So, for this competition, you should draw a place you would like to visit on vacation. It could be a tropical island, a cosy restaurant, a temple on top of a mountain, whatever you want! It doesn't have to be adventurous. Just show your idea of an ideal place for a vacation.

Deadline: 26th of April 2023 10th of May 2023. Of course, with Easter in the middle and everything, if you need more time just let me know. ;)

Voting:

Concept: your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
Playability: does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

Good luck and have fun! Can't wait to see your ideal vacation spots! :cheesy:

I'm bumping this thread to remind people that the Background Blitz is open and eagerly awaiting your entries!  ;)

Is anyone working on an entry? Or even two?! Come on, I want to see your ideas for vacation spots!

To get you people in the mood:

I just saw this, let me start working on something.

ildu

I plan on entering this one. I already have a clear idea about what I want to draw, so just now waiting for a good time to start :-D.

Hannah_Banana

Also planning to enter - just waiting on inspiration to strike. Good topic!

lorenzo

That's great, can't wait to see your interpretations of the theme! Have fun drawing, everybody! :cheesy:

Less than a week left!

How are your backgrounds coming up?
If you need more time, let me know and I'll change the deadline!

newwaveburritos

I have been working on some real dumb stuff that I can't even shoehorn into this blitz...so I think I will have to buckle down and do a good old fashioned background soon.

lorenzo

I've added another week to the deadline, so you and the others have more time to work on backgrounds! :cheesy:  The new deadline is May 3rd.

Ha, that sounds fun, I would be curious to see it :D

newwaveburritos

This isn't a background or much of a vacation but it is what I've been doing.  :-D

Haha, that's crazy, very cool animation!
Well, it could be interpreted as a way to spend a vacation... not the most comfortable one, though ;)

Creamy

I love his 80s look.

I have an idea. Now to find the time and motivation...

ildu

Could I possibly ask for another one-week extension to the deadline (roll)? I would really like to take part, but it's looking like I wouldn't make it for Wednesday.

Not sure if I'll have the time to finish my picture before the deadline. So here's my WIP submission:

It's a follow-up to my "Mediterranean" background of January

Extension granted ;) The new deadline is the 10th. Got to give Creamy some competition.  (laugh)

Creamy: very nice, even in its work-in-progress state! I like the soft colours you used. Hopefully, with the new deadline, you'll have more time to finish it. :)

newwaveburritos

Okay!  I did it.  These days the only vacation I can imagine is the kind I have in my dreams.  But on vacations I like to go to a new city and look around a bit so I decided to try to bring these two ideas together and have a dreamy, surreal cityscape for my vacation themed background.

Cool entry, newwaveburritos! Great use of the palette and the city feels huge, I would love to explore the place in an adventure game.

Hannah_Banana

Some great entries this round! Love the palettes newwaveburritos in your city scape. And cool Mediterranean scene creamy - can see this working well in game.

I've run into a few technical difficulties (incl a toddler breaking my Apple pen), but hoping I can get something in for the 10th even if it's on paper  not digital!

lorenzo

Hannah_Banana: sorry to hear about your pen troubles, never leave toddlers with anything fragile  ;).
Hope you'll manage to make something, no matter the medium used! As long as it can be posted here, it should be fine. :)

Lesson learned!!

Will do my best to get something, even if it's rough
