Damn, that's a real shame. I was reading your document and I liked it a LOT.

So, plenty of people have expressed they liked the theme (phew!) - but it appears nobody is actually working on a game (or has admit to doing so). Please don't let this be one of the competitions without entries. Even if it's just a very small MAGS game.

Since there is so much interest in the theme and with all these other competitions going on, maybe you can get this month's MAGS extended to next month? Or would that violate the rules?

Well I'm kinda actively working on a game for this (writing) but as is a pattern for me I've found it difficult to get much done due to work and ill health. I'd like to commit to finish this one because the idea is good but I doubt I'll make the end of the month (hence why I hadn't posted about it here) It's designed with one room and basic graphics to keep it simple but it involves a lot of coding.

I'll just share the title atm - Naiad Down atm, because I think it's pretty catchy.

This would be a nice idea, as we don't usually have as many as six people interested. If there was an extension, it would still run alongside MAGS June, but I don't really want to set a precedent for such a long extension.

If there is enough interest from those who already thought about entering (or anybody else for that matter), and it will mean they can finish a game, I could set a later deadline. Just post if you think it would help a lot.

I've been thinking about this a little more seriously.  How about a modification of the MAGS rules: if no one announces a work in progress by the 20th, it becomes like an OROW on the same theme?  Scrap the "original content" rule, and see what people's creativity can deliver in a week.  Sure it might be silly and maybe outright plagiaristic, but at least we'll have fun and the comp won't go empty.  The host PMs people who indicated they might be interested, makes sure there are no WIPs that someone is hiding, then just declares "OROW!" and the free-for-all begins.  Whaddaya think?

I'm working on something bright and watery for this. During weekends, so it won't be huge.

Goddammit! If only I had enough time I could do LaSol 2! :D
Maybe I'll still try... Maybe...

If you're doing LaSol 2, I'm going to make Beacon 2. I'll probly get runner-up again too. ;P

haha, I get a feeling of a deja vu here but ...

I always thought these would work a lot better with two months instead of one. As long as the theme is as interesting as this is.

What would possibly work best is having a MAGS competition only every other month.

Yeah I see where you're coming from and I kinda second that. However maybe if they just tweaked the competition to being 'create a demo in a month' rather than an entirely completed game. That way they don't have to extend the deadline and people can put more time and effort into the art, the coding, the story, and the puzzles etc. If the participant(s) win or a lot of people show interest in their initial demo(s) then they can decide from there to finish it at their own pace. Eventually producing something of better quality. But then the true spirit of this as I understand it is simply to gain practice and honor deadlines, so I probably shouldn't be over thinking it this much XD

Regardless though, i'd eventually participate in MAGS as it stands now anyway. Despite the obligation to rush production and sacrifice quality it seems like loads of fun for what it is :)

Armageddon

How do you determine how long a 'demo' is?

I figure, like with other monthly competitions (ie, NaNoWriMo) there'd be a set minimum time for demo gameplay, maybe 10-15 minutes? I have no idea XD I'd like to hear what others think though. Admittedly, i'm all really new to this myself. :/

I dont think it helps to make ad hoc changes to the Mags contest i  this thread here based on just one incident. If anything we should discussit in a separate thread with wider input, and consider th contests of the last few years.

Jaffles

Don't worry folks, now that AP exams are over, I can dedicate my full time and effort to my game. So far things seem to be going swimmingly (get it?), and hopefully I'll have some stuff to post in the next couple of days. Listening to lots of "Aquatic Ambience" and "Dire Dire Docks" to get inspired!

That's great to hear, Jaffles. Color me excited!

Ok, here's a shot of my WiP. I'm happy to present...

Bio-luminescence

In this point and click puzzle game, you play as an anglerfish who's gotten herself lost in an underwater shipwreck. You must use your bio-luminescent lure in a variety of ways to solve puzzles and escape from the ship.

Nice Jaffles! I'll be also participating. My game's name is Deep Hope, I've already posted something in GiP.

It'll be very short and (I think) rather easy.
I hope it'll be complete before the 28th

Cool! Glad to see someone else is working on something!

Your game reminds me of a game I used play when I was little called "Treasure Cove". Best of luck with finishing things up!
