SpacePirateCaine

Good day, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the first Photoshop competition of the new year. I am SpacePirateCaine and I shall be your SUPREME DICTATOR for this competition. For the sake of posterity, I will now copy and paste the rules for your perusal and enjoyment:

What is the Photoshoppin' Contest?

See this link:
http://www.somethingawful.com/photoshop/

And for other examples, see here:
http://www.worth1000.com/

The two above websites should give a fair idea of what is involved. Also you can check out the earlier Photoshop contests in this forum.

Note: Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images.

Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, Gimp or any other ~equally good programs can be used.

And now, without further ado, the topic.
Honest game boxes

Admittedly inspired by This photoshop phriday, from Something Awful, the name of the game is to name the game appropriately, in a way that the prospective buyer would know what they were getting themselves into. I'm not going to put limits on the medium or genre, as long as it's a game (That means it could be anything, from Loom, to Need for Speed to Monopoly - you be the judge).

Not the best topic in the world, perhaps, but could yield some interesting results. You have 15 days. Go nuts, my friends.

After about an hour and a half, I give you my entry:

I mean, who HASN'T found a bug withing QFG4?

Great topic, by the way... I may do some other box covers, I have some ideas kicking around...

If you add lots of bugs chasing the hero it'll be perfect!

BerserkerTails

I was thinking of labling the monster chasing the Hero as "Error 52"... But I decided against it.

Or "Error 47". That was the bane of my gameplaying existance with that game. It might be one of my favorite games ever, but if I ever see Error 47 again, I might explode with fury.

You at least got error messages! I just ended up having the Hero stuck in and endless loop of backflipping- even if he didn't have acrobatics, he'd suddenly do backflips!

Edit: And, just so that this isn't a completely off topic post...

Well, I hate to got off topic even more, but for people having trouble playing the game, go here:

This guy makes patches that fix timer bugs. I was able to play through Quest for Glory IV with only ONE bug, and that was right at the end (Not being able to Summon Staff as a Wizard), which is easily fixed.

Plus, there's alot of other great Sierra game-fixes on that page too.

I always found this game very annoying, first time I played it I think I died every five minutes.

When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

Your SUPREME DICTATOR speaks!

Well, it looks like the contest is over. It's a little unfortunate that we didn't get more entries than we did - there was plenty of steam at the beginning, and I thought it was going to be a bloody battle, but even with the 5 entries we did recieve, I am impressed with the results, and dub this competition a success.

The entries were all awesome, and though I've only actually played 1 of the games (2 if King's Quest on Dreamcast is the same as the computer version of KQ1), I have heard enough to know where you folks are coming from. It's nice to see the anger and spittle flying in regards to some of our favorites.

I judged this contest on both 'truth in advertising' and the quality, imagewise, of the edit made (Don't worry, even though I haven't played any of the graphic-intensive games in the entries, I did my homework).

So, without further ado (as there has been plenty ado so far in this post), I announce the winner of the contest.

I think we can all agree that "Quest for Glory: Shadows of Betaness" is about as true as it gets - the text masterfully edited on the box by BerserkerTails states simply but eloquently what I think the adventure gaming public would fervently agree with, and the box itself, even (save for a 'moby games' watermark in one corner) is pretty damned convincing.

Congratulations, BerserkerTails, and great work, all of you.

Wow, thanks SpacePirat- Errr, Mr. Dictator, sir.

I'll have a new topic up within a few days, just as soon as I think of a... Well... A good topic, haha.

Thanks again, and great entries everyone!

(And to clarify, I don't think King's Quest was ever released on Dreamcast. That box art is obviously from the Sega Master System port of the game, the grey squares give it away. Most likely there's a SMS emulator out from dreamcast, and someone just made that cover to print out.)
