Release Something! - June 25, 2005 (Release NOW!)

Kinoko

Well, for all you people with dribs and drabs of a game that may or may not be finished someday, and all you people on the edge of completing something but lacking the motivation to do so, let me acomodate you.

This isn't a competition as such, just a big free-for-all where we can all showcase our talents. Basically, a date is set for "Release Something!" Day (I guess, I just invented it) and on that day, people are invited to post to this thread anything they like, really. For example, some sprites,Ã,  screenshots of your game, music, sound effects, backgrounds, rooms, a plugin, a storyboard, a demo, or if you can manage it, a full game. Heck, even if it's 95% done or 1% done, if you wanna release it, you go for it!

I've decided to set the date for 3 weeks. 2 seemed too short for some to get their 'stuff' done, 4 seemed too long to wait. So, let's say the 25th of June. Seems like a nice round date.

Remember, anything you want, as little or as much of it as you want! Get working, people!

The Time has come! Release whatever you had done, NOW!

[Cameron]

I'll see if I can get something done. Great idea Kinoko.

Ponch

Sounds good. I'll be there with bells on.

Haddas

Thanks Kinoko. You got me working on aproject again that was becoming "never to be released" rapidly. you just saved a game temporarily

Paper Carnival

I'm working on my platform puzzle game, it's not AGS so I hope I'm still allowed to post. I was working on it anyway, but this will make me work more. By that time I'll have a small alpha demo ;D

=The=Brat=

YAY! great idea kiniko!

I have put the impossible "hang" project on hold while i start on a  new game about musketeers. ill have something posted as soon as i can!

Dart

I'm in as well. :D

Prepare to see something from my Hansel and Gretel game on the 25th if I'm not busy with exams and such.

Pelican

I'll probably release something. At the very least some screenies/sprites, from my ongoing project. At best, perhaps a short game. Course, I am going on holiday next week. And I have to go shopping for a present for my dad's birthday the week after... So most likely some screenies.Ã,  ;D

PsychicHeart

great idea. I'll be releasing a trailer, some screenies, and (if you're lucky) a demo.
Formerly known as Flukeblake, Flukezy etc.

JudgeDeadd

Yay! Kinoko, You just motivated me to work at a game I abandoned!!!
You know what they say... no... wait... you don't. What a shame.

PsychicHeart

wait a minute, Kinoko, i know the date, but, is it all day or...?
Formerly known as Flukeblake, Flukezy etc.

DragonRose

Seeing as people on the boards are in just about every time zone, so a sensible time for one person would have other people asleep or at work or whatever, I think all day is the only way to do it.
Sssshhhh!!! No sex please, we're British!!- Pumaman

Kinoko

Oh yeah, sure. There's no specific time, it's just a way to give people a date to work towards. Deadlines -can- be fun.

Tom S. Fox

Great idea!

I'm going to release some sort of tech demo for my game "Adventure Game",
and maybe some new screenshots.

hedgefield

Cool, by that time my summer vacation will have started so I'll see to it something new will be available for TMC!

Ubel

Well okay then :=

That is how much my last months mags game is ready. It has only one interactive room by now and no intro yet. And only one custom GUI. There's really nothing to do in it. :P But at least I 'Released Something'.

Mats Berglinn

Sounds like a fun idea, Kinoko. I might be in this and release the demo of Caribbean Mysteries in time. But if I don't make it in time, I'll just release it afterwards. Got some work left but not too much. Hopefully I'll make it.

Haddas

http://217.172.186.14/~al_ninio/zmobies2.zip

Just an intro and a screen you can walk around in and listen to awesome music in. Jokes will be better. Finished version (some day... will include dancing!)

I'm going to release a little trailer for Lost In The Nightmare.
But I will have to upload it to lousy Geocities if I can't find a good host :(

I might release a trailer for horror hospital or maybe even a demo, or just what I've made so far. Since I'm not motivated to make new stuff.

What a neat-o Idea - It'll be Xmas in July for every ags'n boy n' girl (except it'll be june).
Hey! All my awesome trophies dissapeared in the year since I was here last. CONSARN_IT! with an underscore!!! I earned dem tings!! Oh well. Hope your Monkey floats.

Perhaps I'll even release something ;) I do have 3-4 unfinished demo's lying around ;)
Still here.

Here's a demo of my RON game:

Download it here

It's hosted at tripod... hopefully it'll work anyway.

You can't talk to anybody (except for Weirdo), but you can look at, interact with and talk to all things.
You know what they say... no... wait... you don't. What a shame.

scotch

Why are you people linking games now? The idea is for everyone to do it at once...

PsychicHeart

hence the second part of the title: June 25. If you're such a jittery jack to release your game, do it in 'General forum'. No wait, put it in 'In Production'. No wait... oh i don't know what i'm doing.

Yeah, god damnit. You're all fired!

Kinoko, we were used to the fact that we can submit our work before the deadline. We just assumed.

I wasn't. I just wanted to make a revolution!

Tiki

Even so, JudgeDeadd, perhaps it would still be too soon to be releasing unfinished work?...

Anyways, I'll probably be in myself.  At least a screenshot.  Now, for all of us who posted 'I'm in!".. we create new posts when done, rather then edit the original posts, correct?

Ponch

Cool trailer Ahmet! I had to jack my gamma up though. I couldn't see anything except the blue text the first time through.

But with everyone releasing stuff when we're still weeks away from the deadline, it seems like there will only be a handful of us who actually release something on "Release Something Day"!

This feels like opening my Christmas presents early!

Kinoko

Yes, I think we should stop once and for all. June 25, people! Let's leave this topic alone until then. Maybe someone can lock it *hint hint*

The whole idea is that this deadline encourages us to work on things that aren't done yet... even if you have something ready now, maybe you can polish it up a bit more until the deadline.

Right. That's it though. No more entries until June 25!

Gilbert

hehe Aknowledged.

If any of us forgets to unlock it after meeting the deadline, please PM. ;)

In honor of our long, hallowed tradition of "Release Something Day", I am submitting a movie for my upcoming Barn Runner: The Forever Friday. It is in AVI format and compiled with the CinePak codec - the most generic codec of all so everyone can enjoy it! Hopefully, this will spark interest in my upcoming game and everyone can appreciate how truly magnificent it will be! *

But don't take my word for it. Read what this highly credible and completely unbiased fictional person had to say after seeing The Forever Friday Teaser Movie.

Professor John Frink
[/b]
Expert in the field of microcalifragalistics,
Inventor of the Frinkahedron and
D-List celebrity shill.
Everyone, if I may have your attention please. As you will see, this preview clearly demonstrates the awesome potential for enjoyment the as-yet-to-be-released game "The Forever Friday" may - and indeed could - provide.

Sure to surpass even the lowest of expectations, this game features Barn Runner's trademark hand-drawn animation and Colorformâ,,¢ inspired design with the bold outlines and the primary colors and the little people... just stick them where ever you want them... with the licking... they just stick right there... Unsanitary.

Where was I? Oh, yes!

The Hype-O-Meter is off the chart here! This game will be so HUGE that it will require some sort of "Debigulator" simply to permit it to fit on the internet without displacing all the pornography and poorly-informed political opinions that are clogging your browsers even as we speak!

Good glayvyn, people! What are you waiting for? Start right now with the clicking and the downloading and the watching at the low, low price of free! **

You can't argue with phony testimony like that! Just click below to start the Barn Runner experience.

The movie is available in two different forms of compression (or "Debigulation", if you will): ZIP and RAR. And there is a mirror available for each type. Just click whichever one suits you and download away!

RAR Format (3.64 Megabytes)
(Mirrored Here)

ZIP Format (4.87 Megabytes)
(Mirrored Here)

Once unpacked (i.e. "Rebigulated") the movie is 25.2 Megabytes.

I hope you enjoy it!

Awesome, Ponch!  Lots of reloading animations.  Looks fantastic.  It looks like you have a sidekick of somesort in this time around.

Anyrate, here's my offering for "Release Something!" day.

Some time ago I released a small demo of "Without a Prayer."  Today, I'm releasing a MUCH BIGGER demo. Woo!  It's about three times as big as the original.

Get it HERE:
http://www.davelgil.com/ags/RON/prayerDemo.zip

Step into the shoes of Rasputin Finch, travelling preacher and conman, as he tries to convert the godless heathens of Reality on the Norm and build his tabernacle in the process.

Enjoy!

[Cameron]

Now that I've seen these release something entries I feel like I've made a half assed attempt. But I'm happy I've at least done something.

http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/MIDItune.mid

-Cameron

Ponch

Cameron - Nice brooding piece. Is that the theme song for your game?

Dave - Thanks for the kind words. The game is sort of my homage to all the games I loved as a kid. Not just adventure games but also stuff like Spy Hunter and Operation Wolf. The three reloading animations are the only three weapons you have in the game but all those sequences along with the flying sequences are completely optional. The game even plays out slightly differently if you opt to disable them from the menu so it won't feel like something was "chopped out".

I'm playing the Without a Prayer demo. Very cool. If more preachers built tabernacles like that I might go to church more often! I'm stuck in the jail at the moment but I'll tackle it with a fresh perspective tomorrow. Have to take my SO to see Batman tonight.

Any idea when Without a Prayer will be released?

Hopefully, all the Release Something offerings will be as good as the ones I've seen so far!

- Ponch

[Cameron]

I'm thinking of making a RON game. I've got the basic outline but I need some help writing and getting my ideas in order.

I hope it's okay to post non-AGS games, too! ^^

I started a small project after reading the 'release something' thread. That was about two weeks ago. Now, for the first time in my life (really), I actually finished a game.

It can be downloaded at http://www.origamihero.com/files/kitty.zip.
It's a small platformer in the style of older SEGA/SNES games, called A Game with a Kitty.

I never would have made this game if it weren't for this thread... I think this showed me that making small games is fun and the chance of me actually finishing them is muchly much higher. Now back to Hero Theorem~

Vince Twelve

Wow, these have been great so far.  I especially loved the Barn Runner video, and Ponch should get mucho bonus pointos (that's Spanish for "a lot of bonus points") for his creative presentation.  Big props to Kinoko for this idea!  I think there should be a Release Something every month or every two months.  Hopefully people will actually understand that they are supposed to work on something new and not post it until the release date...

I decided when I first read Kinoko's idea for Release Something that I would finally start the "In Production" thread for my in production game.  But since it was this thread that got me to surge ahead, I'll post it here first (only to be posted minutes later in GIP).

So, without further adieu (French for "ado"):

This game has a dirty mind, which doubles as a heavily animated in-game menu!
Help the detective reconstruct the events of that fateful day at the Hicks' Home... err... double-wide!  Get in to the minds of both members of the Hicks family to reenact their over-the-top, back-and-forth, all-out war!  Decode their secret messages to help you make your next ridiculous move!  But, since you're playing as both characters, you'd better be able to plan ahead and block each attack, or it will be lights out for one of them!

And if he drops this one, he's got a backup remote.  He calls her "Lurleen."
Step into the shoes of Tubby Hicks ("Hey, but he ain't wearin' no shoes!") as he launches an all out offensive on that loud mouthed wife of his by using only the items he can reach from the couch... because what's the point of doing anything if you have to leave the couch to do it?

To Do: -Pick up eggs -Feed the dog -Eliminate your husband -Iron
Enter the kitchen of Lurleen Hicks.  Who are those secret love letters from?  She can't remember, but she's certainly not going to let a little thing like being married get between her and her love for... whoever it is.

Is that the smell of... MURDER?!  Nope... No... It's just mold.

The stage is set, the pieces are in place, and the cold ones are cold, let the battle begin!  Who will survive and who will wind up wearing a toe-tag?  Play Domestic Conspiracy and find out!

Features:
  • First person perspective
  • Stylized cartoon graphics
  • Animated cut-scenes
  • Voice acting
  • An innovative, user-friendly, and seamless interface
  • More than thirty contextual cursor graphics
  • Hint system via the detective's observations

This has been in production for a long time and a lot of care is going into it.  (The secret ingredient is love.)  Unfortunately, after my recent wedding and finding out that there's a baby on the way, I've got a lot less love to go around.  Things have been quite busy around here, but I've been continuing to diligently plug away at this game.  Though, obviously, production is not moving as quickly as it used to.   Because of the fluctuating time that I'm able to devote to the project, I'm not willing at this point to estimate a release date.  But, one thing is certain: I will finish this game.

Alun

Bernie: Wow.  If you can produce something like that in two weeks, I really want to see what you'd come up with if you devoted more time to a project.  Seriously, that kitty game is really good--I haven't finished it yet (made it to Windy Whiskers), but it's loads of fun so far.

Anyway, now for my own contribution: I'm just starting out on a game called Pith and Peg.  (Actually, the full title will be Pith and Peg: The Subtitle I Haven't Decided Yet, except that of course the "Subtitle I Haven't Decided Yet" part will be replaced by, well, a subtitle I haven't decided yet.)  Since I've just started it, I don't have much to show yet; I want to get all the puzzles firmed up before I start work on the backgrounds, so I know exactly what's going to be needed, and without backgrounds, well, there's not a lot else I can do.  But, in honor of Release Something day, I decided to whip up some sprites of the two main characters.  These are not necessarily finalized versions, and some of the details may change, but in any case these are at least roughly what the main characters are going to look like:

Sir Pittheus          Pegleg McGrue

Projected release date for the game: probably some time in the spring or summer 2006.  Yeah, it's going to be a while, but at least I've now got something to show, however small...

Here is a game I made ages ago before anything else you would have played by me. Its the one I broke my teeth on so to speak.
It was going to be an epic but I never finnished it to it's full potential.
I have however made the finished part into a complete mini game - that is playable and finishable, although the puzzles are strange - but hey thats how I made them when I first started.
I hope it's a little enjoyable at least.
It has a long and unessesary title that has nothing to do with the game but I left it as it was because it's animated and looks cool.

It is fixed

You need to download both files and extract them into one folder.

Before I check the other releases, I'll post mine and post again later to comment on those.

Land of Monlocks
It's puzzle/platform game, in which the goal of every level is to collect all the monlocks (the type of monkeys in the game). In every level you'll be able to have an inventory which you must use to achieve your purpose. Currently there is no inventory and there are only two items (a banana donut, which attracts monlocks, and a mouldy banana donut, which monlocks hate). There will be other items and objects in the game.

Walk and jump with cursor keys, place banana donuts with the left mouse button, place mouldy banana donuts with right mouse button, delete a donut with middle button (for testing) and delete all donuts with space (again for testing). Change the background color with enter (I did this to test the anti-aliasing on different colors, the final version will have actual backgrounds). Scroll the screen with the mouse (you will be able to set the view on the character instead later, but for now try this).

Go here for the alpha tech demo http://www.freewebs.com/teo777_game

The main character in my game, named Teo after me (no I don't have a big ego I just thought the name matches the character ;D)

This is the monlock sprite

The graphics of the block are there only for test, they'll be changed later of course. I don't think I'll change the character, monkey and donut sprites (I think I should make them smaller and maybe I'll even try texturing them). A lot of donuts might cause slowdown for a weird reason (no it's not the anti-aliasing or the physics since they're "turned off" when they rest on the ground, but other objects don't seem to slow down the game that much), I'm working on a possible solution for that.

There are some details in the game which I think are kinda fun. For example the donut physics, which bounce off corners and stuff. Try putting a donut very close to the upper left wall and see how it will bounce and roll and stuff.

I hope you like it as much as I do :P

I hope I didn't forget anyone. if I did, then sorry I didn't see you

Ponch: Sorry, but it's not working :(. I even tried downloading that codec even though it's supposed to be unnecessary (I have win XP)

Dave: That's sooo awesome and dang hilarious! I'm gonna play it more when I finish with this post. You must finish this game

Bernie: Wow, great game, cute graphics and everything. Like it was said before, if you managed to make a game in this small time then you'd create a monster game if more time was available to you.

Vince Twelve: Interesting, with detailed cartoony graphics, looking forward for the game!

ProgzMax - Awesome graphics, but the game is kinda confusing (yeah I know it's only a tech demo)

Frisby - Looks very interesting, but I think the main character needs better a animation (at least make his head face left when he moves left)

LargoPredator: Niiice backgrounds, you say you made those? Well holy crap! The only problem is that they don't appear very compatible to each other

[...]: Very impressive, but gets messed up when I rotate

Vel: That's two great songs, the vocals in the first sound kinda weird (I know it's not your fault, they sound weird because you made it with a sampler program, and those programs never make the voice change pitch naturally)

Dark Stalkey: Very high quality music, great job, especially the second one. Both tracks remind me of the Shire for a weird reason

I can't compare Vel's and Dark Stalkey's music because they're different styles, but both are great.

Excecratus: There's nothing really to comment on yet, nice screen but it's incomplete and needs colors. I'm looking forward to your progress

Guybrush Peepwood: Someone has to comment on your entry too

----

Ok that was it, some of those entries made me embarassed of mine. I can't wait for more of them

Vel

Actually, I made both tunes with my synth, but I guess that your comment still applies - i did not try to make the voice pitch sound natural, even though I now use another choir sample.

Mozesh

This has been the most interesting read I've had on these forums in a while. We should do this a couple of times a year. "Release Something Day - Summer" and "Release Something Day - Winter" or something like that.

Vince:
That's "Ponch", baby! Potch is that other guy (the guy who wasn't on CHiPs"!). "Ponch" needs all the press he can get ;-)
Thanks for the kind words but Frink is really the key to my success. Celebrity endorsement moves product!
Nice graphics and cool menu screen. It's always a good idea to keep the rat poison by the cereal. What could go wrong?

Guybrush:
Did you try both download versions? Are they both coming through corrupt or is the video just not playing? Is anyone else having this problem? According to the research I did, as of March 2005, CinePak was the most common codec available. It is the default codec for both the Window Player and QuickTime. If anyone else has this problem I can try a different codec.
Nice offering. Donut physics! This has to be a first in AGS! (Mmmmm, donuts...)

All in all, this has been a great idea so far and everyone's posts look fantastic. But where is Kinoko?

Wasn't this her idea? Has she been abducted? Is there some sort of foul play afoot?

Paper Carnival

Yeah, I've tried both versions and I've even tried both Winamp and Media Player.

Both programs say they have "encountered a problem and need to close". When I attempt to close winamp after that I get this:

---------------------------
dshow_notif: Winamp.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at "0x00d92d68" referenced memory at "0x00e92ecc". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Ponch

Strange. Does QuickTime open it by any chance? I just tried it on my laptop and it opened just fine.

Anyhoo, I'll see if I can slap together a Divx codec version later and post that as soon as I can. Sorry for the problems.

- Ponch

Paper Carnival

Yup, it works now. Not perfectly, the sound breaks all the time but I can see the screens fine. I love your characters :)

SpacePirateCaine

This is just one recently redrawn background for a very long-term project I began about a year ago, and have been working on slowly but steadily. The finished product will be colored, of course, but I suck at the whole coloring business, so I'm getting the help of someone much more skilled than I for that purpose.

And with some sprites:

Mr. Mozzarella

I am "releasing" the website for "Night of Fire" (releasing in inverted commas because it's already online for a few days)

It's not a webdesign masterpiece, only a banner and a white background (white stands for innocence and virginity and this project is still very young :p). So far there are only three screenshots and some information, but it is too early to show much more. Yesterday the feedback section had still a few bugs, but meanwhile it should work...

Games are fully playable (full screen too) - except for movie playback, which I'm working on.
Plugins are supported, but I've only got the source code to my own...

Steve

PS It's stil the 25th here.

I was planning to post some artwork I've been doing for the full length game I'm working on, based on my old MAGS game Constance the Barbarian. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble logging into my webspace. If it sorts itself out anytime soon, I'll put them up. Its not much anyway.

Wow, havnt visited here in a few weeks.
Heres some crap I had lieing around

Its a screen from my unfinished top down ags rpg

Its a rough, unshaded character sheet from my ww1 adventure with the talking views

Well, I know there all pathetic but atleast I had something done, I will try to visit the board more often. Thanks, LostTraveler

In case you didn't know, the demo I uploaded before is also an entry for this day!
You know what they say... no... wait... you don't. What a shame.

Wow, some really good entries so far. I love the art for Dark Stalkey's project 1. :o
Barn Runner is looking sweet as ever. Can't wait to get my hands on those new features. Vince's game sounds awesome too. The graphics are looking slick, and I'm a fan of CSI and the like, so that's gonna be cool. And the whole Darkwood system is awesome. Great sripting.

Also, you are right Peepwood, since these just happen to be a few bg's that I'm not satisfied with. That's an issue I guess when you work with photomanipulation. And the scrolling room is far from done.

Do release something Mozesh! :)

That's "Ponch", baby! Potch is that other guy (the guy who wasn't on CHiPs"!). "Ponch" needs all the press he can get ;-)
How do you know I wasn't talking about "Potch," huh?  Maybe Potch deserves muchos bonus pointos...  Why does everything have to be about YOU?  Like that time we went on a date and you wouldn't shut up about yourself: "Aaaah! MY hair is on fire." "Help ME!"  "Put ME out!" "Me me ME!"  That's why I don't return your phone calls.  (Sorry, fixed it)

I wanted to make like a peepwood, so I wrote a really long reply to this thread giving comments to everysingle person who released something, but then the site went down for a while and I forgot to save my comments, so they're gone.  And now I'm too lazy to rewrite them, so everyone should just know that they got a gold star in my book.  I do want to comment on a few people's work though.

Bernie, your cat game was SOOO much fun and I wasted waaay too much time on it.  (I'm gonna waste some more too... I didn't finish yet!)

Guybrush Peepwood, your game shows a lot of potential.  I can't wait to see how you tie together the use of the character into the game.  Puzzle design is going to have to be a big consideration of yours.  I can picture some pretty cool puzzles coming out of this unique gameplay.  The sprites are very nice as well.

Space Pirate Caine, your art is, as usual, amazing.  I can't wait to see it in motion.  Good luck with the coloring...

And finally, HOLY CRAP STEVE MCCREA, this is some of the best AGS related news since AGS related sliced bread!  Is this a recompile that creates new executables for the Mac, or some sort of AGS engine emulation for the Mac?  Hook us up with some more info.  Allowing our games to be played on the Mac will expand AGS' audience by quite a bit.  You, kind sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

Kinoko

Wow, I'm so impressed! Everyone's entries are great... I can't believe what awesome games are in the making. It's gonna be a good crop this year ^_^

Well, I wanted to have a demo ready but I just couldn't get it done in time, though I did get a huge amount done on my game thanks to this. Instead, I guess I'll add a new screenshot. It's not much, but hey, it's something! If we have another RS, hopefully I can have a demo ready by then.

Hey, I'm not crazy! It's a recompile of the AGS interpreter, building on top of Dr Evil's great work with the Linux version. I've been working with CJ on it.

I was hoping to be able to associate .exes with the AGS executable so that you could just double click on the windows exe. It looks like you might have to rename the exe to .agsgame or something like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately there are no plans for an editor yet. That would be a major undertaking.

Thanks for your kind words.

Some great looking games on the horizon. Dave, I was particularly looking forward to playing the Without a Prayer demo. Good stuff!

Hey, very nice entries so far! But I've had a problem with yours, JudgeDeadd: the game file simply doesn't exist on server.

Pardon me, but I haven't got any stuff to release. :( I'm still working on my game, Insanity, but unfortunately didn't prepare anything in time, I'm just a bloody lazy man. Anyway, I'd publish some background sketches, but it probably doesn't fit the thread idea (great idea by the way, Kinoko). So maybe next time. . .

Is this thing over yet?
I'll just show this little screenshot I made some time ago, meant for a new game, before the thread gets locked.

PS: hehe, seems there's still a hint of Roger to the right. Ah well.

Well, it took me most of the morning, but I've finally managed to take a look at everything everyone posted and I'm really impressed with all the screenshots, music and demos. Now if these games would actually get released one day, everyone would be the better for it.

I have to admit, I was hoping for a few more playable demos (I'm looking at you, Kinoko) but I guess I can't point fingers at anyone since all I posted was a movie. Even Bernie's non-AGS platform game has proved to be ridiculously addictive.

All in all, I'm really impressed with how this turned out. I second the earlier notion (posted by myself) that we should do this a couple of times a year. It might help keep everyone "on track" and working on their games. Maybe next time there could be an Aldora demo. I'm curious how an old school NES-styled rpg will play on AGS.

Anyhoo, great work, everyone!

Ponch

p.s. Vince, it's always all about me. If you'd asked me, I could have told you that!  ;)

Darth Mandarb

We really wanted to have something more to show but Team Hasslehoff lost yet another background artist which really set us back.

Yet there is good news ... I have assumed the role of BG artist.

Here is my first background; London: Outside the Antiques Shop

And here is my second; still in progress - Inside the Antiques Shop

Hopefully this'll whet some appetites!  We're still 100% motivated to work on the game!!  Look for it sometime in 2009 ;)

Ubel

Those backgrounds are amazing! So much details! Amazing! :o Great work Darth!

Kweepa

Wow!
Why were you looking for a background artist again?
Those are incredible!

Agreed. The second one almost looks like a 3D render.

EDIT: Whoops, somehow I didn't notice it has to be game stuff.
Great work from the rest of you anyway.

Al_Ninio

Erm.
Nice stuff, Damien, really. But, um. Is any of it actually made for a game?

CodeJunkie

Some very nice things posted here, and some great games in the making.  Bernie, your game is so addictive, it's just the sort of game I would've liked to make.  What other Fallen Angel games did you make?  I've played a few.  Keep going everyone, they're looking great.
Sorry I couldn't enter this time round, I didn't see the thread till it was locked and I wouldn't have had anything playable anyway, certainly not as amazing as some of this stuff.  Next time, hopefully.

Quote from: SteveMcCrea on Sun 26/06/2005 21:26:47Why were you looking for a background artist again?

I was originally just doing the sprites!  We had a BG artist (Farlander) who had to withdraw for personal reasons.  Then Chicky stepped in, but it was just too much work (still under the ATC deadline).  Then Neil Dnuma (Bjorn) came into the picture with some amazing work.  But then he just disappeared.  Haven't heard from him since late April.  So I decided to take on the task.

I had to put JP & Cosmo II on hold for the time being :(

Thanks for the kind words!

Whoops.. I meant to put a link to the demo of my game Valis up here yesterday but it took me so long to sort out file hosting that I forgot :p well, here is the link anyway:

Ok, it seems it's after the deadline now, but anyway. . . though I searched my hard drives and found some stuff to put here, some older stuff. . . (everything made in MS Paint). Well, take a look:

(Plymouth Fury '58 sprite -- my first and made just for fun)

Never before released ASYLUM (now INSANITY) game stuff:

(Corsair hi-res character design)

(Cursor pack, in order: use, look, talk and wait)

(A few item graphics: rusted blade, personal ID and a piece of broken glass)

Yes, know it's not too much, but that's all. ;)

Woo! My webspace is working again! So, here's my meagre efforts.
Click!

Just some bits of artwork I've been fooling around with for Connie. The background is pretty much a finished product, but I may polish up the sprites. Or then again, maybe not. I'm not much of an artist, so these things take me a while to do. If it takes too long to do the art, its not worth the bother!

Kinoko

There's nothing wrong with posting background sketches. Absolutely ANYTHING game related is fine, even character profiles or plot ideas or pieces of dialogue - whatever! As long as it's game related, and especially if it motvates you to keep going.

Ponch: Yeah, I -really- wanted to put up a demo but the problem is I'm not creating my game in a linear style, I'm doing bits and pieces from all over, so although quite a bit is done, the beginning still has a lot of areas that need work. Although I never intended to release a demo, I've decided it'd be a good idea to get one out so I can get some feedback on the way the game works so I fully intent to have one ready in the near future. I'm working on it as we speak!

Here it is! It's something I am doing for fun, but I could go on with this... The problem is that I can't do a fangame because it's illegal, but I think I'll make tiles and tiles (like the tiles used in Flashback) for making a tool for all the people who would like to make a game easilly, without releasing it...

I am experimenting it and it makes really easy to make a bg, cutting and paste, 4 minutes as much... Here are some vehicles and some chars... hope you like it:

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

It makes me all warm and fuzzey inside that people like my game. ^^ A Game with a Kitty is my first release ever, and also my only Faind release so far. Next up is Hero Theorem, which I'm currently re-planning a little.

So many great things have been posted. Maybe we can do this one or two times a year in the future? It would be fun~

A bit late, but I've uploaded some Shadowplay interface screenshots in the games' GiP-thread: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=8237.new#new

This is also a bit late, but what the hell.  This is the opening screen of my upcoming game, "Emily Enough" which should be complete sometime soon...

This game is looking too damn good, Anarcho. Can't wait! The visuals are gorgeous.

Umm... I'm not four days late. Nope. Not me.

I haven't been at the computer that actually has my game stuff on it in the past week. But here it is, just for you, The first three puzzles of Candace Grace: Bard's Blood... written out in prose. I just find it easier to do the planning that way.

Moo.
