Pixel a character that looks like he's from the Old West: Cowboys, gunslingers, cattle ranchers, prostitutes, sheriffs, etc. No bigger than an old school screen size of 320x200. :P

There's a catch though:

 -  You are required to use only colors from the EGA palette!

 -  Extra cookies for animations(swinging a rope, gun tricks)
 -  A big marshmallow for an EGA background
 -  Oreos if you do both!

You have 'till 19th of May to submit your entries. Alright, ready? Set? DRAW!

Spoiler
Tee hee, see what I did there?

Hmmm... not in any way inspired by this topic are you? ;)

I like it, also the 16 color twist.

Khris

There's one color missing in that palette.
Here's a template:

Saberteeth

Khris you're right, I used a blue color twice. Fixed.

Heh I have no idea why, but I really like this pallete for some reason. It reminds me of MI1 in 16 colors. Dithering, dithering and more dithering!

Great entries so far, I hope I didn't discourage people by restricting you to only 16 colors, it should be more than enough! ;)

Hueij

Man, this is hard. I never made something with so little colours before. Hopefully I have something ready before the deadline...

Captain Ricco

I was goin' to make a background and a duel with hay balls and all, but, nah, maybe if i get inspired later ill do it!

Mad

There you go:

Actually wanted to animate her, but couldn't be bothered... far too fiddly

Animate the cowboys in the foreground :-)
...Or the stage's curtain!

Pixelton

Thought I'd give it ago, never done anything in this pallet and it really interested me in giving this a good crack :)

On a side not...damn its tough!

I think Mad's entry kicks some serious ass though!

Arboris

Mark, isn't the air supposed to be dark on top and lighter on the lower part? in other words, just the other way around then you have now? :P just and observation

Concept shooter. Demo version 1.05

Pixelton

Not an entry, but...I just like the guy. =D

Hey man, is that like pixel art, or is just a photo with a posterize filter?

Jim Reed

It's a pic, I just made it use the provided palette, with a few additional tinkerings.

Well dude, I bow to your awesomenes... Well done! Looks great.

You should join www.pixeljoint.com , if you haven't already. Great place if you're into pixelart.

NsMn

Heh... what he said was that he pretty much only used one filter basically to bring it down to only these 16 colours  :P

Jim Reed

Aye, on second look, maybe I haven't made myself clear: I played with the brightness/contrast/saturation first, and then reduced the colour amount in a few steps, using the same filter.
I'm not a pixel artist, more like a pixel...something, which you could call art...if you were drunk...and squinting...in a dark room...standing about 20 meters away. =)

Hah, he'd probably get shot if he took that to pixeljoint... they don't take too kindly to a bit of photo-filtering :P

Jim, it came out quite nicely though.

Xellie

Well, I agree that pixeljoint won't accept that. Misunderstood the post, thought you said that it wasn't filters but drawn. Anyway, still makes the buzz around the sprite jam nicer. You should try pixelling, it's fun!

There...doesn't look like him much, though I tried.

I think it does! That's good, man. That could be an entry for this comp.

Jim Reed

Hahahahaha...I asked Jake on IRC who this is and he had no clue. You're biased because you saw the pic I posted earlier. Which translates to "Sorry, I still don't know how to draw properly yet" =D
Hmmm....maybe if I coloured him in, he'd look more like Clint?

Well it might... I always find it's a lot easier to add character to a design when you have colour to play with as well, as facial features depend much more on gradations of color than on lines only... give it a try! I still think it's not bad at all, though.

Saberteeth

Alright guys 1 day left, any last minute entries perhaps?

Saberteeth

Liked Mark Borg's entry the most, take it away Mark!
