WHAT I HAVE FOUND IN THE WOODS

William Bliss Baker - Fallen Monarchs

You were walking through the woods one day when you stumbled on something. What was it?
A bizarre creature? A mysterious object? A serial killer hiding the bodies of his victims? Your friend Bob going for a walk? A group of fairies having a picnic? A scary monster hiding in the bush? Or just a bush? Or something else entirely?

Your job is to create a sprite of whatever it is that you found in the wood.

Guidelines:

  • No size, palette or style limitations.
  • Animations are welcome, but please include a static version of your sprite (that's the one that's going to be judged).
  • Feel free to add a name and a description of what you found, but it's optional.

Deadline: 4th October 2018

Good luck!

Blondbraid

A nature photographer who's bravely ventured out in the woods,
forsaking the conveniences of civilization and reality TV
in the hope of capturing a glimpse of the majestic creatures
that live in the woods like moose, wolves, rhinoceroses,
and whatever that goofy rat thing in The Lion King was supposed to be.

I think you mean Timon.  He's a meerkat.

I know, but the photographer doesn't. ;)

The statue of the pierced wanderer

I tried to come up with a story for this, but I'm not that great at traditional writing.

The idea was: the wanderer displeased the gods by being immortal, so a spear was thrown from the heavens, impaling him.

He survived the attack, but the hole in his chest left him incapable of pursuing his own goals in life.

He now wanders the earth, bearing the heavenly spear and doing the bidding of any group of people who give him purpose.

Or something along those lines.

The deadline is tomorrow!

Glenjamin: great sprite and nice use of limited clours! That character looks creepy.

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints!

Monsieur OUXX

Nice sprites, insomnia and cat! They're pretty.
Note: I can't see the other sprites because they're hosted on sites that are blocked by my workplace's firewall. But I'm sure they're pretty too.

lorenzo

I agree with Monsieur OUXX, lovely sprites imsomnia212 and cat!

I'll start the voting on Sunday, in case there are more late entries.

VampireWombat

Oh, late entries will be accepted? If so, I'll try to do something this weekend.

Do we need a time machine? :=

Nope, well probably nope. Give me a moment. I shall explain:

I'm about 99.9999999% sure that this was just a mistake either due to copy/paste issues or, at an extreme reach, possibly the poster's own particular dislocation in time.

In either case, there is no known method to travel backwards in time without harnessing negative energy, and we are not quite there yet on the tech-meter of our current civilization level.

Without further updates from the contest host I can only either:

(1) Predict that he actually meant the 14th of October.

or

(2) That he is actually floating dislocated in time and meant the 14th of last month.

While two possibilities may infer a 50/50 probability ratio to some, this is actually not the case.

Allow me to explain:

I could have either arrived home tonight to find my house as I left it in one case, or it, and everything in it, could have spontaneously turned entirely into beryllium while I was away in another case.

While there are two possibilities on the table here, the probability distribution concerning each is not an even spilt by a long shot.

In conclusion: Either the poster made some kind of mistake and meant the 14th of October, in which case no time-travel is necessary, or we are about to experience a water-shed moment in our understanding of the universe.

I'm doubting the latter case, but still remain quite excited about the possibilities inferred... Because, who knows?

Lorenzo, get back to us ASAP!!!

lorenzo

It's preposterous to even suggest that I've got the date wrong! In fact, Mandle's second theory is the only acceptable explanation for this unfortunate event.

But I don't want to mercilessly destroy everyone's understanding of the universe, so I edited my previous post by means of some highly dangerous time travelling.

Many thanks to Gilbert and Mandle for helping me rectifying this time paradox!
