After awhile of inactivity, AussieSoftTM proudly presents...Ã,  ;D







PLOT

You play Detective Michael Ebb, from the City Police. Back in 1974, while working for the International Police, you sent a bunch of terrorists to jail.

One day, watching the news at home, the bulletin is interrupted with an important message for you: the terrorists are back to haunt you!!!

They've got your 20 year old daugther and threaten to kill her in ten minutes. As there's no time to assemble a rescue squad, you head over to the place where the terrorists were last seen in a desperate rescue attempt.

OTHER STUFF

- Feel free to report any bugs here, although I think I've done a fairly good work with beta testing.

- You might know what Geocities is like in terms of data transfer and so forth. If you can't access the page because the bandwidth limit has been exceeded, the page should be back up within one hour. I've made two very simple pages so as to maximise traffic.

- If you're a kind and compassionate soul willing to host the game for me until I get a proper domain. By all means let me know.

- Even if the game has to be completed within 10 minutes, I think it'll take a few attempts (you can, and most likely will, get killed in this game) before you finish it.

- Since it's 25 rooms and 10 characters all up, it's posted in the Medium Length section.

Huh. Looks good, really good. Plot sounds pretty promising and interesting enough too.
There's some tiny bugs which I encountered already, though, such as:

* Caretaker's door can also be locked with broomstick, despite game says that it was done with key
* Caretaker's door can be opened and closed many times and get points for each time
* Some logical bugs, such as walking through 7 floors by stairs in only 1 second?
* ah, the "unhandled event" is really annoying.

Also, it's bad that intro cannot be skipped (or is there way?)
And "look" function, which should be most important in any game (remember AGI games?) - is absolutely useless here... :(

- I unplugged intercom
- locked door & cuffed/searched caretaker downstairs
- have wallet, gun, key and stick
- can't figure out why in the hell in this otherwise hotspot-poor game there are ads on the wall and cracks in the corridor?

Amazing game so far, just thought I'd let you know about a little bug I came across. It's in the storage room above the hallway with the elevator. After I hid behind the pillar, and the masked man came in looking for me, I tried to interact with the locked door, and the player character walked past the masked man and over to the door, without the masked man shooting me. Just thought I'd let you know, and I'm really enjoying the game.

The game is great,i just finished it.But i found some bugs,

1.When you find the bomb and go back to his daughter,he says that the tape is still on her mouth.2.the hotspot for the door is to small,i had to pixelhunt to go trough the door.

Finished it. Great game.

I also think, that there are some things to note. Take a look:

- The hotspot for the door in the last scene is REALLY too small. I was shortly before saying "Hey, why did he put a door there if I can't get through it...".
- The game is way too dark. I've seen the handcuffs, but I did not see the wallet and the gun in the glove compartment!!!
- Another logical mistake: The room, where the terrorists hide has a window to the right, but when you're outside there are two other rooms right of it ;-)

Wow, great game, however I can't get past the terrorist near the 7th floor lift...... I think you get your gun ready in the elevator.......but there's that wait cursor....

I don't have much time to reply right now, but as I gather the bugs you've found are fairly small. I'll get those fixed.

BTW, sorry about that pixelhunt people are speaking about. It wasn't meant to be like that. I'll make the region a bit bigger.

Aussie, I think that the game has lots of potential.
Just maybe you could really finish it, go through beta testing and support whole game with text, making whole stuff more informative and interesting.

Also an extra music track or two wouldnt bad.

Add messages to hotspots & inventory items and try to think about The Player, thus supporting even actions that aren't needed to perform

Right now you can examine & use & talk ONLY to the things needed to finish the game and ONLY the right way. I think that this sad fact totally ruins exploration part and makes game somewhat cramped and dull.

Ive used the pole with the hatch, and when get to 7th floor try to get into the storage room but it's locked, and the key i found with the caretaker wont work. I then 'creak' the floorboards and get shot. How do i get into the storage room ?

I was stuck in this room for ages, but you can get out through the door where the dead man is lying, its a pixel hunt though.....or you can go back into the corridor through the door nearest to bottom screen (there are 3 doors in this room, its not that obvious.

How do I disarm the bomb? I pushed first (upper left) button, it kind of turned on. but pressing any others after that cause explosion!! I saved game after pressing first one and tried all others, none of them "worked"!
Or is it a bug? next, number 7 on the code seems to refer to the button at bottom-center, but it just won't work! Ã, ???

After you found your daughter and she has told you about the bomb, you get 'No bomb here' messages when interacting with the furniture, and only then will the hero search the waste bin

Looks very nice, however, with the current GUI interface I found it very hard to play. It'd be easier if you replaced the navigation system with something like what is used in Perils of Poom (Left button to look, Right to interact, i.e. open door, talk to person), as well as a status bar that shows what object you are currently hovering your mouse pointer over.

I feel kind of dumb but I have his wallet, gun and handcuffs, talked to the Caretaker but he wont go up the stairs or use the elevator what am I missing? :-[

The rationale behind the puzzle is that, since the building is big and you wouldn't have a clue where the terrorists are, you need to ask people around to see if they've noticed anything suspicious.

I have gotten to the elevator used the stick on the hatch but  I don't understand how I am supposed to get to the store room it tells me the hatch is out of reach? ???

Howdy Aus!

Excellent work.  I'm impressed how you managed to make it exciting and "action oriented" without including action arcadey bits. 

The puzzles were difficult enough to be challanging but not enough to be frustrating or slow down the pacing.  I was only stymied by that finicky door near the end.  If you fix that, you'll have a definite winner.

Listen, maybe you should take away the ten minute time limit. I like to do adventure games leislurely, and I'm afraid this one would have to be done at a frantic pace.

UPDATE: Most reported bugs (plus one or two nobody had reported) fixed as of 15/10/2004 (including that door towards the end of the game).

As you can see, people have also been puzzled by unnecesary hotspots. There are others, such as the doors in the corridor upstairs, the wires around the girl, or the door in the maintenance corridor.

1. Get into car.
2. Open glovebox.
3. Take gun, wallet and cuffs.
4. Look at wallet and exit car.
5. Show open wallet to bum in the street (far right).
6. Ask about daughter. Tell him he's arrested. Ask about suspects. Ask about names.
7. Go inside building and ring doorbell to caretakers office.
8. Show open wallet to caretaker.
9. Ask caretaker about Hassem, look at intercom.
10. Get out and get back into caretaker's room. You should find out he's in league with the terrorists.
11. Draw gun by clicking it on caretaker.
12. Speak to caretaker.
13. Cuff him.
14. Pick up broomstick (bottom right corner).
15. Unplug intercom.
16. Search caretaker (get key).
17. Get out and use key on door.
18. Get into lift.
19. Use broomstick with manhole (twice).
20. From the top of the lift go right into the maintenance corridor.
21. Step over the second manhole.
22. Hide behind the first pillar counting from the left (do it quickly or the terrorist will catch you).
23. Shoot him when he walks past you.
24. Search corpse. Get knife.
25. Go back into the lift and into the seventh floor corridor.
26. Pick up broken floor board.
27. Use gun on door.
28. Shoot terrorist.
29. Search corpse. Get note. Look at note.
30. Walk into next room.
31. Look at window.
32. Use knife on girl's mouth.
33. Get back out. Use telephone to warn Edwards.

There are alternate ways of solving some puzzles (for example, if the terrorist in the room gets away before you shoot him), but this is the intended sequence and should get you 100 points. You should be able to do it comfortably within the ten minute countdown.

Ooo, I really enjoyed this game Aussie  :)

I love the music, the time limit, and the whole plot story.  Plus the red herrings, I was wanting to climb up that pole in the street for ages, and kept wondering what I could do with the floorboard hehe.

Hotspot to the back room, well, it's been said plenty of times :P

If you let the last terrorist get away, there's no way of obtaining the code though, right? It was nice to see what happens that way though, and the 'I think he missed the ledge" comment.

The truth is, it's not a very logical solution, but I needed to give away the hint on how to disable the bomb whether you got the terrorist or not...  :-\

Wow i just finished this game! AWESOME!!!

good points: cool graphics, cool plot, cool puzzles.

bad points: may seem a bit contraditory, but the puzzles are cool yet too hard, it just kept me stopping all the time, i couldnt finish it without the help here.

It was a nice game, but I didn't like the time pressure. The first time I played it I was still in the first floor after 7 minutes. Mainly because it's so damn hard to open the glovebox.  :P

Next time, maybe the player can choose how much time he/she gets? 10, 20 or 30?

Anyway, good game!  :D
