Title: Escape from a small room 1: The walls are closing in
Post by: on Sun 30/03/2003 23:28:35
Hey, would you guys mind checkin out my game and giving me some feedback.  It's my first real game with AGS .  It took 2 days to make. 95% of that time was mucking around trying to get the variables to execute in the right order.  Tell me what you think.  I havn't made my own character animation yet(because i don't know how, maby you can help me there too :) ).  Basically you're just in a room and you have to get out by solving the puzzle.

The file is 622kb

Nice little one room game with some funny dialogs. The character moves to slow though you should increase his speed a bit. You should also always remember to turn off Debug Mode before releasing a game... I could simply press Ctrl+S to get all the inventory items (which of course was a quick way of getting out of the room without getting knocked in the head, kicked in the groin, and have heavy items fall on my feet :))

If you would add some more animations this would be a really funny little game.

Cheers,

Joacim

To Joacim:  Thanks.  ;D  Sorry about the debug thing i forgot about it.  Did you finish the game without pressing ctrl+s?

To Argentinian:  ;D Thanks.  No the yellow book soesn't have a meaning i's just there for a joke.

Could you guys help me with animations? Is there a special program or something?

Yes I finished the game without pressing Ctrl+S, I only tested that after I played through the game once.

Just checkin ;)!!  What program should I use to make animations? Is it difficult?

Animations in AGS is pretty straight forward:

1. Create the image, in your favorite imaging program
2. Import them as sprites in AGS
3. Create Views from the sprites (also in AGS)

The only problem here might be point 1... depending on your graphical skills. Eric has written some great tutorials on this subject.

its a good game overall.
but as people said its lacking some animations.
and some typos can be found as well.
i liked it never the less.
keep up the good work.

For a first game, I'd say it was pretty enjoyable. My only main gripe (Besides Lo-Res Roger ^_-) was that the character just walk TOO SLOW. Fix that and the next room game, or whatever you do next will probably be even better.

Great start!
