He thought we wouldn't find out, but we DID!
HE AR3S NOT FO0LD US ALL!!!!!!!!!1!

Seriously though, it's a great game.

LGM

I'm confused.. Is this an old game... Or did he just release it?
You. Me. Denny's.

AGA

m0ds

Which novel did he steal this idea from then? :p

m0ds

Snake

Grim: "You're making me want to quit smoking... stop it!;)"
miguel: "I second Grim, stop this nonsense! I love my cigarettes!"

edmundito

hah.. it came out two hours before aga posted the game. I got a reply from yahtzee and he mentioned that. If you don't know, I was the one responsible for finding the game because I was looking around trying to fix some old things (Rob Blanc....)

Anyway, bye
The Tween Module now supports AGS 3.6.0!

Andail

Haha, hate to say it, but this game is really GOOD

Esseb

I got the distinct idea he would never make another ags game, especially after saying "I will never make another AGS game".

just a question: Why do you post games, who are produced by Yahtzee...?

by the way the screenshots remember me on Loom... looks cool... I`ll download it now.

Scummbuddy

Well, it is a completed game.  This is the completed game forum.  It was made with the AGS engine.  And last of all, no way in hell was he going to show up and post his new game to us.  :D
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Ben

Yahtzee doesn't like us. We call him names.

This was a fun game, though. It had a few nice puzzles and the dialog was good..

Dave Gilbert

Wow.  Very impressive.   Excellent graphics, nice animations, fun main character (who looks a bit like edward scissorhands), and the dialog made me burst out laughing quite a number of times.  Not to mention a bit of replay value because of all the different dialog options.  It also looks very professional - the animated icons are particularly impressive.

As vogue as it is to diss Yahtzee, he's always produced quality stuff.  He doesn't disappoint here either.  I think Odysseus Kent blows Rob Blanc out of the water.

Las Naranjas

Names like "Sarah-fucker"?

Will we ever tire of that (Though me suspects everyone else but me has).

why is it so "vogue" to insult this Yatzee person?...I may be new to these boards, but...it seems to me that he has made a better game than your Plueresborg maker?  Yet he is scorned?

Sorry, i just don't believe in trends..nor following the herd mind.  I judge on peoples actions, and, from what i have seen..this is a damn good game.

it isn't vogue mechanico

you weren't here at the time to see how things were, yes he made games, no one is saying he didn't, a lot of people like them, and i'm not saying they aren't good games, but people aren't making fun of his games, they are making fun of him... and really, who cares anymore? give it up, eh?

and what are you talking about, he has made a better game than our Pleurburgh creator, why are you making fun of Chrille? You won't make fun of yahtzee but you will Chrille? This makes little sense to me.

I don't believe in trends either, but you have no idea what you're talking about, and if you judge on people's actions than learn about yathzee first and then shut the hell up about chrille... he has done NOTHING but help this community constantly, by making games for us to play AND by helping the hell out of everyone. Those are our "Plueresborg" creator's actions...

as far as the game goes, downloading now, looks interesting, i like how much better his art is getting

I wont shut the hell up, because i did not attack Chrille, nor do i care about him.  My point is, the game is better.  That is it.  Thanks.

evenwolf

Leave the arguing for another thread, gentlemen.  I've said my fair share of things about Yahtzee in the past, despite my not knowing him.  And I feel bad about it.  If certain members of the community have negative feelings about Yahtzee,  those members should not try to pass down those feelings to new users.  If Ben shares his game with others, let them enjoy rather than bring up personal qualms-  it's like telling someone not to enjoy American Beauty because Kevin Spacey is gay.  So what? If he is, does that affect his acting ability?(okay, this is a rhetorical question)

Anyway, I'm resetting my Yahtzee meter.  It will stay at "neutral" until Yahtzee personally gives me reason to raise or lower the dial.  Perhaps he's not even looking for redemption in this community, but that does not mean I cannot offer.

Nostradamus

That was a great game.
Too bad that there was a rift between him the board members.

But no way it's better than Pleurgburgh.

Squinky

Great game, far too short. I didn't like the music at first, but then it kinda grows on you....

taryuu

hey i've got mecahnico's back on this one, he didn't insult chrille at all, unless there's some other post I'm missing.  so collosal, what was the deal with that?

how is this an insult?

I like having low self-esteem.  It makes me feel special.

Esseb

Yahtzee always has a positive impact on this community, isn't it swell?

I liked the game, and now, excuse me while I not look at this thread again.

PS: Stop bickering.

MrColossal

the only problem i have with this game is the lighting, it's all banded and looks like he used a light filter for the shading, which i feel is not so good

i enjoy the characters, like i said, i enjoy that the art and how the characters are much more different than the other yathzee art

now if only i didn't try to switch back to mIRC and crash my whole computer while playing then i could have completed it...

It is a lot easier to give compliments to people who haven't already given them to themselves...

Additionally, this was the first game by Yahtzee that I enjoyed

Las Naranjas

Sensible enough not to judge without basis, but if you ever engaged in social intercourse with Yahtzee on the board your mind would be changed.

Us oldhands still bear a few scars from him.

Pumaman

Sorry to intervene here, but I have to back up EvenWolf. This whole Yahtzee thing has been going far too long, and I don't feel it's at all healthy to dwell on it after all this time.

Besides, shouldn't people be given a second chance? IIRC Yahtzee was last in the community about 2 years ago. People can change a lot over time, but the behaviour here is hardly likely to make him decide to return so that the newer members here can actually talk to him and judge for themselves.

jesus! who is this CJ guy? listen cj, just cause you have cartman as your avatar doesn't make you bad ass!! Why don't you get a job and be usefull to society?

you weren't here, you didn't know what it was like! man, now i'm gonna start talking about how CJ butts in and tries to.... bah... this isn't funny... sorry

anyway, did this happen to anyone else? i went to talk to the priest and when it went to the dialog options the whole screen turned black, except for the text and the cursor then when i clicked a dialog option it came back... i'm trying to recreate it now

well it happened again... this time when i went to the loading screen after restarting the game

Helm

I've said time and time again that if people that where here when the ugliness happened  bear no ill feelings, even a bit of guilt about the whole situation, such as me, then people that weren't even there when the whole thing went down, shouldn't find any grounds on which to call yahtzee 'names'. His artistic input was encouraging, inspiring and always worthy the download, which is more than can be told about a number of people that have been ripping him another one now that he's away. His character is not the issue. Ags games is the issue.

Get on with the program.
WINTERKILL

Andail

In fact, for me the screen went black during most of the conversations, and also when the inventory window was up.
I don't think it's a script-error, though, more like some problem with the engine VS my os...

Esseb

It's the engine, it happened on one of the mags games as well. Haven't been able to recreate it.

Small question:
Spoiler
Anyone got the pervert to leave his doll after you put the thorn in it? I've put the thorn in, given him the video, nothing happened. Perhaps it's because I put the thorn in before I got the video and now I can't get another thorn.
[close]

-

I finished it... great game!!!

@Esseb:

Spoiler
The thorn is no the problem... I also put it in before I got the video. Just go outside after giving the video to the man and you will find the doll there...

But even someone makes the mistake of using the wrong blue, or as is probably the case, someone posted before their post, it's still hard to read, unless you try.

About the game: From what little I've played it's fun so far. Graphics are nice. But what makes this game anything is the dialog. Wonderful! I'd say keep up the good work, but I think we all know that really won't be the case.

CJ is right (as usual). I used to admin on some old MUD/MUSH style games, saw a lot of *bleep*ers come and go, but years later when I ran into them again, a lot of them had grown up/changed significantly -- not always young people, but sometimes people much older.

Of course, I saw 'stable' people go the other way over that time, but um.. yeah, that happens, too....

Adamski

How Yahtzee acted in the past, the present, or the future isn't an issue here whatsoever... the point here is that he's made the only amateur game so far that has truly captured the essence and atmosphere of Monkey Island... and I do rate this game very highly...

Pumaman

black screen problems - were you guys running any other applications in the background?
I think this might be an allegro bug when DirectDraw loses the screen.

I've noticed that if I have LeechFTP running in the background while playing an AGS game, the screen flashes black from time to time, which could well be the same issue. I think the allegro team is working on a fix.

Don't worry Lay, you can come and huddle round my screen to watch it ;)

Well actually, I'll probably end up being out that night like last year, but we'll always have the log to remember it by ;)

Punch

My computer locks up completely whenever I try to run this game :( It works fine until I click on a dialogue option, and then freezes, not even responding to ctrl-alt-del. I've had problems with the computer freezing in the past, but they stopped when I changed the soundcard options to default wave out. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,
Punch

Gilbert

Try to set it to "no sound" and see if it still locks up, if not, then it's prolly some DirectX compatibility problem.

Toefur

The 'im the player and you're controlling me' thing at the start was entirely too unoriginal... but other than that, so far it seems pretty cool...

... wait... it stopped responding for me as well until I tried clicking on a dialogue option.

JD

The blackscreen thingy happens to me when I try to run my game in window-ed mode. When I run it in full screen it works perfectly. Oh by the way, nice game. Nice animations. Too bad Yahtzee is a nob jockey.

Nostradamus

There's a win version and a dos version, if you're having troubles with one vesrion, try the other

KANDYMAN-IAC

UPDATE....

Yahtzee didn't steal this game idea from a book, this time he stole it from Sarah. She says she was shocked when she played it. She didn't know about the games existance until it was finished. And then right there on the screen were characters that seemed almost ripped from stuff she had been making...

i noticed the sarahishness of the game and asked if she had been involved... upon finding out  she wasn't she explained this....

yahtzee is a bad person
"Don't lose the bluecups they may be our only hope....!!1!!!1"

"I'm jealous of all of you guys, which means. I love your work, I just hate you as a person.... wait thats not right."

Esseb

Yeah, I'd hate it to if someone stole my perverted character with a blowup doll design.

Sarah

No, no, no... KANDY got it wrong... he said that the game SEEMED a little 'Sarah-ish', and I replied that I had been shocked to see that the game was so much like my style (slight sarcasm/irony there) but that I'd had nothing to do with it from start to finish. Yahtzee/Ben ripped nothing from me...

I admit I was a little annoyed that the character was Victorian, since I write a lot of stuff (or used to) about a Victorian guy, but Ben says this guy is Regency... which to me doesn't make a huge difference, but never mind...

Maybe I was an influence, I dunno...

Andail

Allright, we're back to square one: "Yahtzee is not a bad person anymore".

Kandyman, on the other hand, has earned a few spanks :)

KANDYMAN-IAC

yay... spanking is fun....

ummm i'll just shut up now
"Don't lose the bluecups they may be our only hope....!!1!!!1"

"I'm jealous of all of you guys, which means. I love your work, I just hate you as a person.... wait thats not right."

Gonzo

Well I'm enjoying this game quite a lot. Great sense of humour and atmosphere to it. It feels kinda like Melée Island from MI1, a feel he admits he was going for. It's good, one of the best AGS games I've played I must say.

I e-mailed Yahtzee to say I like this game and he thanked me (briefly).

Goldmund

I liked it, it was really smooth, although the story wasn't too appealing for my wicked tastes. Entertaining dialogue, though.
One huge disadvantage was that the only two "puzzles" I had trouble with, and spent most time on, unfortunately were a technical fault. One was caused by the fact that the shovel was too big to deduct its hotspot - I've thought of digging up this cross loooong before I tried once again and finally aimed correctly. The second was that the presence of the alley on the right was rather unexpected, with no graphical hints.

I didn't e-mail Yahtzee.

Butcher

Wait...now he ANSWERS E-MAILS?
that's pretty much one of the reasons he got so much hatred from the community (not answering mails)...It certainly is why I didn't like him. He seemed arrogant in everything I asked on the board and then when I did something stupid I mailed him an apology e-mail and never got an answer...and that's my story of what I was pissed off about with Yahtzee...

And also I didn't ever really like the Rob Blank series, but now I can see why he is a trully great gamemaker:
Odysseus Kent is a top game , and very true to the MI spirit. Graphics, music, gameplay, story ,dialogs...it's all there! some pretty funny lines too (although it could be a LITTLE funnier I think).

and yes I'd like to see Yahtzee back on this community...why not? controversy is a good thing...
but I'd advise him a little more patience with newbies
---------------------

Gonzo

It wasn't exactly an extensive e-mail, but yes he did reply.

Anyway, from what I've read I'd guess that Yahtzee doesn't want to come back to the AGS community, I think he left for good. A shame as this game proves he can really make a kick-ass game - I'd like to see a friendly Yahtzee return probably, but it's unlikely. I wasn't overwhelmed by his other games (except a RON one he did was okay I think) but this one's super.

Helm

¨I e-mailed Yahtzee to say I like this game and he thanked me (briefly).¨

Haha, I emailed him too, to tell him I liked his newest effort, but no reply!

there's always misinterpretation.

For instance, I'd be hesitant to reply to an email If I knew it would be posted on a forum...

or maybe he still fears being interpreted as egotistical. Just don't form sound opinions based on silence is all I'm saying.
"I drink a thousand shipwrecks.'"

Esseb

Or maybe he's just done with adventure developing. There's a novel idea.

Frogman

Neat game, but why the heck does everyone do that annoying thing where the character always walks over to what you click on, even if there's no interaction when he gets there??  It's very annoying, and not hard at all to avoid!

Las Naranjas

Although, in classic Yahtzee style the backgrounds leave something to be desired (And he says he prefers to concetrate on narrative and puzzles), the character art is superb for the feeling he's trying to create.

And the humour is more restrained. Before it could get annoying in a Douglas Adams, Discworld games kind of way.
