My ADAV time has failed.........

Quo non ascendet?
What????????
Quo non ascendet?
Thats my motto.
Whats it mean.......
also....having trouble unpacking..your win rar
It means "What heights will he not scale?"
It was the motto of Nicholas Fouquet, I liked it and took it.
For your problems, try to d/l the latest version of winRAR.
sorry to ask you here, but there is a working link for the talkie version of recess???
thanks!
Erm, sorry but I lost the sourcecode today. If anyone who has it would like to upload it, he's welcome.
Got the game working.....
Its okay.....
Can`t work out the controls......the safe thing does`nt make sense at the moment......
I presume the code in the bottom right is the combination but how do you enter this?
Musics good...
You forgot to put an up and down walking animation.....
foz
Wowee! So far I am loving this game! I haven't gotten very far... okay, I've only played it for a few minutes, but I totally dig the graphics; and so far the game seems to be doing well in the atmosphere department.
My only gripe is that I can't click through when something has been said [especially the intro] so I feel like I sit there waiting for ages after I have read everything.
Still... so far I am really liking!
You cant click through the text because it is synchronized with the music. And it lengthens the game.
I enjoyed this. You've really managed to convey a bleak and oppressive atmosphere - something that is difficult to pull off well. The story is interesting. I always dig dark stories about love and death.
Some of the techy details mar the game somewhat. The unskippable text really kills it. Lengething the game is never a reason to do this - it just gets frustrating. Fortunately, the game is short enough that the average player won't get too annoyed before quitting. You should also give him some "up and down" animations, as Andrew has a disturbing tendancy to walk backwards. Also, the women look young while the men look old - aren't they all supposed to be the same age?
Another point is the lack of any interactivity. After the first five minutes or so, the rest of the game is just watching. The choice between the two endings is a nice touch, though. It's just a shame that each ending is so short.
I forgot that I gave you a reference for a female character. I THOUGHT that Karen lady looked familiar...
Overall, some very nice work here. A definite improvement over "Recess."
Dave, thanks for the kind words. Ill upload a newer version in the next 30 mins in which you'll be able to skip speech outside cutscenes.
It is a rather movie-orientated adventure - thus, no inventory - I decided to go for a notebook instead. And, finally, Recess is a mags game made in 10 days or so - you cant really compare it to this, for I have been doing it for three or four months now. Anyway, thanks again.
New Version released:
List of changes:
1. You can skip speech outside cutscenes
2. You can skip the intro pressing esc
3. Fixed bug pressing about
Download at the same link(Finally uploaded)
Can someone tell me what i`m supposed to do with that book safe....it does`nt make any sense to me....
Vel:I agree with D G on his points and also there is`nt a label gui that tells what is under the mouse.......i think you should add one to stop the aimless clicking everything.
As you can tell i have`nt got very far due to the safe puzzle.......maybe i`m missing something straight forward.......the interface is`nt as friendly as i would of liked....
I`ll keep trying...
You haven't read the manual, have you?
The pdf file...?(I don`t have acrobat installed)
I don`t ever read manuals......even when setting up electrical good and MFI furniture....(Thats why i end up with loads of screws afterwards)..
Blue cursor - no hotspot
Red cursor - hotspot
:P
Vel: the cursor is so small its hard to notice.....(If it was easier to notice then the player would`nt need to have read the manual)
and theres a problem.....when the guy looks in the water the game runs slow and a request comes up asking for ags to acees internet....
I still can`t get passed safe ...............
I`m at the stage of giving up.....
Which is a shame as i would of liked to see a bit more of your game.
Dunno, foz. Try looking in the diary.
Done that,.... theres a number in bottom right...i thought that was supposed to be the code but how to input it is`nt as clear as it should be...........
There again maybe im not looking properly.........
(ive played alot of ags games and as many point n clicks as you could mention through the years so i`m not i novice)
I just can`t see what i`m supposed to do....
Go on vel throw me a fish........
Right MR.Vel........
I have finished your game...
Its not too bad..
But it lacks puzzle elements to push the story forward.
The safe puzzle needs to be better incorporated...eg the code should be...L4R3L4R1...Just a thought.
At one point once i`d done the bits with the phone that incidently virtually played itself...after a few simple clicks the game goes into movie mode almost like its an INTRO sequence.
You once said either in a PM to me or on the forum that your game would be better than flashbax in every way.....
I know i`m biased but i`d have to disagree.....
I even think this would struggle up agaisnt my 2 week mags game that has more puzzles ,charaters and a story that interconnects with what the player does......It also has an up/down animation and lots of set animations for picking up things.....
Now i think this is a 100% improvement over RECESS and i am not slating your game off ..........the music was great ,the story not bad, interface good.....more work could have gone into the animations and a little more time spent doing stuff like the UP/DOWN animations.
I feel this game was rushed......(a thing you once said about flashbax).
I think that you need a reality check.
You`re very harsh when reviewing other peoples games so please take these comments as they are intended....
Well, this is what you think. It does not include people wanking and, thus, is complete crap. As I wrote in the manual, it is a movie-orientated adventure. It is not a puzzle-orientated one. If you come to think of it, it has as much rooms as some other games have, like BOE, for example, but its purpose just isnt to frustrate the player with puzzles(which include severed hands), but rather to tell a story. Those who enjoy cheery and funny stories may get disappointed, though. Anyway, I'm proud of what I have done and that Dave Gilbert and eVOLVE, for example enjoy it.
You did`nt do as i said ........take the comments as they are intended.....
I did`nt say it was CRAP.....
You should be proud of your game .....
You`re very critical of others work.....
Apoc:Vel does`nt have any wanking or severed hands .....
I thought the whole point of adventure games was to tell a story....
But allow some interaction....in the form of player needs to get a door open but does`nt have a key......the player then uses different ideas to get around problem.
I said i thought the game was okay and in my opinion not as you`d stated better than flashbax or apoc :vel.....
And you forgot to mention the fact about what i said about it being rushed...............
Come on vel you critisise others you need to do things like walking animations (UP/DOWN)....otherwise you can`t critisise others for not doing it.....
Just take on board where i`m coming from......i`m not bitching.....I`m just giving you a reality check.
A critic should be able to take critisism...
First, foz, have you heard about the newest invention? It is called punctuation.
Second, I do not think that the game was rushed. I waited for petteri's last tracks 4 days and I have been doing nothing but beta-testing in my free time during those days. Critics are always welcome, both on the ezine and my games. I do think that my game had a deeper plot than flashbax. I wont comment AV because it is just a mags game(though a good and funny one) and does not have much of a deep plot. It was just more dramatic. Oh well, I guess it is just a matter of opinion. I did not do the walking animations because.... because I was goddamn lazy. I take this crit. You also say that the point of adventure games is to tell a story. Well, that is exactly what my game does. It does not allow more interaction because it would be pretty pointless and also illogical - the things that one of the world's most popular writers cannot achieve with money are few, and thus would kill any logic in combinative puzzles. ONe more thing. I have been doing games eversince I was 10. Now I am 15. When I release the game of my life, I will also publically release my very first game for everyone to see where have I started from. Finally, thanks for playing the game.
Your tone....eg
Quote:
"First, foz, have you heard about the newest invention? It is called punctuation."
Is that of someone who is very angry..and needs to get a dig back in order to feel better.
I did`nt realize we where back at skool.
Second..
Maybe you should go into film making.........
Tell the story with no interaction.
Becuase a game needs to have some player particapation.
Quote: "I did not do the walking animations because.... because I was goddamn lazy."
I don`t think this is good enough....(you would rip the piss out of someone for doing and saying this)..
Lastly ......
I liked the game and did`nt say it was crap...
I just hope in future Ags ezine`s your remember your own quote:.... "because I was goddamn lazy."
When picking apart someone elses hard worked on creation.
I`m just commenting in a truthful manner......
Ps....i hope i`ll get your vote in the MAGS comp...
I do not have anything against typos as long as they do not make the meaning vague(as in your case). I review the games as what they are - not taking in mind whether the creators are lazy or not. I think that it matters not whether the player character has one, two, four or eight walk cycles as long as that doesnt bug the player too much - and I think that in my case, it does not. And whether it is good enough or not we will understand in the beginning of next year. Recess was good enough to win MAGS in July. I will not vote for mags for I have not played other games than AV.
You are sitting on the fence.
Why bother doing graphics at all......
Maybe you should make text adventures.(You would`nt need any walkcycles or firstperson.)
The sign of a good game is making everything graphics, playability and plot as user friendly and a joy to play rather than a chore.
Would sam and max or any other adventure game have been any good if the creators had been lazy and thought that sideways animation was enough even though it looks shite when the charater goes up screen...cause it did`nt bother them.
These games had a lot of attention to detail which with all the other elements ....story,puzzles made them the great games they are....
As for not voting in the mags comp.....theres only 3 entries i`m sure it would`nt be hard to play the other 2.....then vote..
(The other enties are very good and worth playing..)
As a previous winner i would have thought you would have been interested.
vel, stop being an ass. If you cant take crit, then stay out of the kitchen. Foz was jumping on you, and you flip on him, putting words into his mouth
for somebody who wants to review games, you have to understand that not everything is going to kiss your butt. He liked it, just thought it could be improved
this will teach me never to play any of your games and say something about them, lest I get nailed and get labeled somebody who only likes games with old men wanking.
grow up
I take the crits. But, please, post something about the game, not something about how much you hate me. And, foz, my game is just a liiiiiiittle bit away from classicas from LEC and sierra to have much detail.
Hi Vel.
I've played the first release of your game (the one in which was impossible to skip dialogues). I've find in it many interesting ideas (really good the use of the notebook) and a good plot but the development of that was a bit short and unclear. So many deep feelings and link resolved in few rooms and short dialogues. Seems like you rushed too much to end your game. Also the missing up/down animation of the character is not nice. I'd like to see a revisited version of your game with a longer and deeper version.
;)
I have quite a few ideas what happened before the things that take place in this game and think that someday Ill release two prequels, but I am still on the drawing board with this one.
Vel....if you do a prequel please think about the up/down thing as it would make the whole expierience better.....
It was the only major niggle.....
also the cursor was a little small..
Good luck if you intend to pursue this.
I`d be interested in the results.
FfoOzZ
If I do the two prequels, Ill merge the games into one to make it bigger and I'd also make the up/down views. So don't worry.
I know that an hard review can be hard to swallow but you are taking it too far away Foz. You are doing good works and there is no need to fight like this against Vel only because he didn't like something in your game (maybe others thinks so but he liked to tell it out). Your apocolypse was the only good and kind way to reply.... try to take it in the right way... think that there are people that think that Monkey Island "sucked"!
hope to read better posts ;)
I've already been dragged into this, so I might as well comment on the game... any small niggles that I had with the game I told Vel personally, such as the unskippable dialogue and the About bug which have now been fixed. I did enjoy the plot and the way it was all laid out, though of course more puzzles would make a better game. In terms of an interactive movie though I felt it was pretty strong.
Perhaps more could have been made of the reaper ending which did seem a little tacked on and ultimately reminded me of the TV show 'Dead Like Me' which is certainly in need of an adventure game being made out of it ;) I don't think anyone can deny that they appreciated that autosave at the end either.
Vel, you do have to learn to take critisism in the light in which it is intended, and certainly not to get so competitive that you badmouth other games to make your own look better. Remember that everyone will see varying amounts of good and bad in each game they play, and undeniably some will like and some will dislike a project like this that is a step away from the standard adventure game that this community is centered around.
Still, it's clear that a lot of effort has been put into the game, and I did enjoy it, so nice one.
Elianto: wheres that last post coming from........??
Read my previous post and think what it says:
It was the only major niggle.....(means that the fact the up/down missing it ain`t to bad).
also the cursor was a little small..(hardly me ripping the game apart....someone said flashbax cursor was too big so i made it smaller....i agreed with the comment).
Good luck if you intend to pursue this.(Means vel GOOD LUCK)...
I`d be interested in the results.(Means i look forward to your future releases..).
nuff said.
Foz, are you playing the game in windowed mode? This is the only case in which the cursor looks small(right?)
Evolve: Thanks.
No it was`nt window mode....i don`t think it was anyhow.
It was hard to determine the colour change when over a H/spot.
I just thought it could do with a little altering....e.g. slightly bigger or the colours standing out a bit better.
.....I did`nt read the manual though thats why i did`nt know about the colour change til you posted.....
So my comment about clicking everwhere was based on the fact i did`nt notice the colour change.
Apart from that the game can be played with out need to read the manual.....which is a good sign....
Hmmm... I dont know - it is pretty obvious on my monitor.
I didn't notice either.. but I still finished the game before too long, the hotspots aren't hard to find.
And while it's not as good as you probably imagine it to be I enjoyed the game :)
I think this was a good game even though there wasn't very much to play in it. Backgrounds are good, I especially love the on in the park. And my music seemed to work very well :) How big is the difference with digital music pack? Because of my connection I didn't download it.
As for the cursor problem, I didn't read the manual, but I noticed the color change right when I first time moved the cursor over the hotspot.
All in all, you're going to right direction in game making. So I hope now Mushmuroc Castle will be even better than this ;)
Thanks, scotch and petteri.
The difference between digital music and MIDi soundtrack isnt that big, but it is still better to play the game with the digital music pack installed. It just has some nice effects as cross-fading and stuff.
I've just been trying to play it for a few minutes.
+Nice choice of music.
+I like the cursor.
+I like how what they say/think is at the bottom.
+Nice font choice.
+You give the game a nice mood to it.
-I miss up/down sprites, but I know how it is.
-The type is slow, but I'm a fast reader so...(I downloaded the latest version and I cannot skip on).
-I kind of bugs me that in the first scene one character was nice and sharp and the other character looked fuzzy compared to him.
Now for questions:
How do I leave the bridge? Can I leave the bridge? The only thing I can click on is his diary and his stump. Is he confined to this sceen until something happens?
Hm. I can't really judge the game entirely because I have not finished, so I was being kind of unfair stating my opinion earlier.
Vale, first, you cant skip the text in the cutscenes for the music is synchronized with it.

lol rose, I was thinking the same thing
Hi Vel,
I can see you put a lot of effort in it. Scripting, dialogues, story, graphics music and atmosphere is done very very "vel" ;). I did not really like the fact that the whole game consists of sequences to 85% or so and the existing puzzles are rather lame, but as you said, it's not puzzle-orientated. And since I could download it for free, I didn't mind to finish it after a few minutes (ha! I did not even get stuck at the safe ;D). Nice work, I am looking forward to your next projects.
Thanks, I was aiming at 45 minutes of gameplay.
Calm down and be cool, man.
What the hell? Where'd that come from?
yeah, who's Gilbert telling to calm down? ;)
I smell the stench of deleted post...
I refer anyone interested to the GENERAL forums....
Hey Vel, I like the game, and I can also see that you put some effort into it. I'm not saying it's the best game, because that's the uncertainty machine, but it has some nifty sides. I hope to see more work of you in the future!
And to foz : Stop acting like a jerk, and quit with the annoying spaces between every line!! And don't reply to this, foz, because we all know what you think.
I can't really say anything else then that I liked it. :) The plot was interesting, the graphics were original, which is a good thing :P and the music fit the game. After I found the safe I just blazed through the game, first try, safe open....... I like games which are not too hard. Good job, the effort put in it shows.
VEL .....i would like to say sorry......i over reacted and my conduct was uncalled for.........
If the forum members want to ban me no problem...
Man, you insulted me in all possible forums, reviews and stuff. I think you should be really. sorry.
Bobbin Threadbare traded jobs with Manny Calavera? Now, that's an interesting plot twist ;)
Anyway, I enjoyed the game Vel. I didn't at all mind the lack of interaction. In fact, some of the few "puzzles" in there almost detracted from the story (looking at the bookshelf etc.) It reminded me a bit of my current favorite adventure - not of all time, but of those released within the last couple of years - Shadow of Memories. If you haven't played it, you really should. It's excellent, and very heavy on story telling and emotion.
If you DO choose to continue in this style however, you should work mork on the characterization and motivation. The gold heart scene didn't really work for me. It seemed too "easy". I loved the character of the woman who gives you the address in the park. She added so much to the story. And the ending was excellent. I wish you'd explore something similar in a longer game with more complex characters.
The graphics were naive in style, but very nice. Reminded me a bit of Bestowers of Eternity. Maybe the contrast between the red and the green in the gradients on the trees were too much though. At least when compared to the rest of the scenery.
Looking forward to your next game! I hope you'll continue in the same vein.
Thanks, GG! i will take note on your criticism. Most probably I wont make a game in the same style soon. My next project will be a game heavily inspired by Gabriel Knight (I'll Post a thread about it soon enough), which will have much more puzzles and a better plot(250 pages of research done so far). Thanks again!
The first GK was the bomb! Then I found out they used digitized photos for the backgrounds. Still a great game, though.
I like the way each game in the series focused on a different aspect of lore (voodoo, werewolves, vampires). Will your new game have a similar theme? (I'm prying here)
I haven't played "Who Wants to Live Forever" yet, but I definitely will soon. I remember that bridge background being up in the C&C forum.
Also, what's the deal with the new Indy fan game that's on your website? Is that actually in development now or are you still looking to put together a team?
The indy game was in development for a while, but the team broke up and now Im looking for artists and animators( the backgrounds you see there are made by me). My next game will be mostly like GK3, concentrating on many aspects, including some supernatural ones.
I played it for a while and it looks interesting.
I need a little help:
Spoiler
I called Dona and she was not helpful. Now I can't read the notebook again for another number. I tryed clicking on everythong and nothing happened. What do I do next?
Keep on clicking :)
Would you be more specific? You're not helping!
Spoiler
Try looking at the bookcase again
OK, since I played the game, I think it's my duty to comment on it.
First of all, the only thing I didn't like was the game's length. It was too short. However, I shouldn't complain about that, since you said that it's less then an hour of gameplay.
The idea is nice and the atmosphere is brilliant. Some (not many) of the dialogues could be improved, but the writing in general is very good.
The music is GREAT. I have listened to the non-digital soundtrack but it still rules.
I don't mind the lack of puzzles at all. The story is plot-driven and the plot is interesting enough to compensate for that.
And finally, the thing I like the most...
BACKGROUND ART! I really really REALLY loved it! It fits with the atmosphere so well and even on its own it is brilliant.
So, what you should do (in my opinion) is to make a full length game (or movie) with similar (or the same?) characters, story and definitely the same style of drawing. And add some up-down walking cycles.
is it just me or did the right turning button for the safe puzzle not work right away...
i clicked and clicked and the left turning button worked and made a click sound but right did nothing
i enjoyed the diary it was nice though it should have played a larger roll. It wouldn't even have to be more puzzles just let me turn the pages so i can explore the world more. let me turn the pages so i can feel like i'm uncovering this character's past. you wouldn't even have to add it into the actual story but at least i'd get to read his journal if i wanted to learn something about what happened to this guy.
Spoiler
as for the story, i feel it was all over the place, there were like 3 different stories in there that didn't match up especially the thing at the end, what was that about?
dying guy, check, lost love, gotcha, this makes sense. then we have the whole backstory to the main character that he keeps bringing up but i didn't really care, the best use of it was when he meets the Rosa look alike in the park and she tries to talk to him about it and he declines. Then we get the reflection turning younger and his constant references to wanting to turn back time i thought we'd get this time travel story where he goes through his memories or something reliving his past. And then the lost love kills herself? what? i didn't buy it at all. then death comes in and you really lost me. nothing in the story before that really gave reason for this spiritual/mythical twist to appear at the end. There are three endings but they're all the same as in they're just endings. They're all the same length and they all end with credits.
i don't mind a lack of puzzles but if you're going to take out 50% of an adventure game you better make sure the story can take over for that lost half. Personally I feel it didn't, more connection between the stories or at least drop one of them [the death thing] and focus on the main character and the dead guy. flashbacks [heh] to them as children, them meeting their girls, them in the past. This would, in my opinion, make the title reflect the story more [living forever through memories] and help for me to understand the characters and sympathise with them more. Cause at the moment we are thrown into a story that were learn little about and with characters that i personally cared little about.
i hope this helps
eric.

There's a time and a place
EDIT 2: that was harsh, eric.
Edit 3 - I fail to see the relevancy of Bulgaria's alignment in the second world war.
@Harvester: Thanks, man. I'm gathering a crew for a full-length Gabriel Kinght-like epic now.(If anyone'd like to join, contact me. At the moment I need everything except for plotwriters, programmers and puzzle designers)
@Eric: You do have some point, but I think that you played the game either when you were drunk or when you were too cheery to enjoy a drama game. Anyway, thanks for the criticism.
hi vel how are you i'm fine...
first off i don't drink and secondly this game may be a drama but the story is so all over the place that it makes no sense.. for all the reasons i listed...
that's all you can say to my post that i may have been drunk or too happy? ooooook... fine.
Spoiler
i could have been the most depressed person in the world and i still would have no idea why the grim reaper would appear out of no where to the main character and offer a choice to be a grim reaper. it just makes no sense in the story.
I said that you do have point, I just dont agree with all that you said. And, whether you drink or not is completely your problem. No offence.
I don't get it: you're saying he does have a point, but you don't agree with what he said.
In other words, you agree that he's right (i.e. he's got a point), but you don't agree with him.
LOL!
As fior the game, I didn't understand the Grim Reaper bit too, but maybe if you explain why you put him in there, we'd all understand.
Very well.
Spoiler
I agree that he has a point about the Grim Reaper not properly connected to the plot. I tried to do it with the leake reflection movie and some references, but it did not work very well. I put him in there because the personality of Andrew deserves to be the chosen one. With all his friends dead and he not being blessed with a child, there had to be some compensation - the chance of living forever. The current Grim Reaper in the game has been a human once too, and he wanted to compensate Andrew's mishappiness. Why him, you may ask? Because he deserves it - his books are one of the biggest achievements in literature.
Hope that explains it.
So, by that logic, Mother Teresa is now the Grim Reaper.
Not quite. Though she was good, her mental abilities were far from Andrew's character.
But how much mental ability does a guy need to be the Grim Reaper?
All you do is walk around in a hood and swing a large metal object at people when they die -- it's not the most taxing job in the world, like spinning the letters on Wheel of Fortune.
I mean, are we to believe you need to have a Stephen Hawking-level IQ to operate a scythe?
I don't think so.

:-[ :-[ Then there's no job for me. Unless you need a crappy "funny" dialogue somewhere.
but that confuses me
Spoiler
if he deserves to be grim reaper and the current reaper is doing it out of compassion why does he call the main character a fool for not taking him up on the offer? if i'm offering someone something out of the kindness of my heart i'm not going to insult them if they don't take it. and if he deserves to be grim reaper as some sort of justification for him as in not being grim reaper would make his life terrible... well chosing the other options are better endings than choosing the grim reaper option. he either writes books that become awesome or he dies and meets up with all the friends and family he lost. and just cause his books are big achievements in literature means he deserves to live forever and take souls away? maybe that's where J. D. Salinger is... But again, his books are huge and then he goes off and writes even bigger books if he turns down the grim reaper so wouldn't he deserve it even more? i'm terribly confused
and i'd vote for Martin Luther King Jr. over Mother Theresa, at least he was assassinated and didn't just die of being awesomely old

The thing you need to have in order to be the Grim Reaper in the game's world is to judge. And only the people of highest intelligence can do it without prejudices.
Just letting you know that the links work again.
your links do not work.............
And it has nothing to do with me.......
just thought i`d tell you.......
They work fine for me. It is probably something with your account.
No, both the links redirect to some advertising site thing.
Its not working .....it goes to an error page of the host PAY something or other.....
All other games on that section D/load perfectly.
Hmmm.... You mean http://veliarts.isgreat.tv/forever.rar
Edit: I guess it'll work for everyone tomorrow. I set up the account on web1000 today and it seems that the site isnt yet fully active.
The link worked for me yesterday.
I was going to be critical, but I read back over the post and realized you've taken enough of that already. With any art form, when you put your deepest thoughts on display, it takes a while to hear that someone didn't like it and not be mad. So I'm not going to say anything specific about that.
I liked your storyline overall though.
Keep making games, and they'll only get better and better.

Hehe, Web1000... That host is funny. If you're using a German browser, it directs you to porn sites. :D
web1000... I remembered Bruised once hosted her files there, but later I can never see the files anymore...
I liked the backgrounds a lot. They provided a powerful atmosphere with simple means.
I didn't really like the plot and dialogues, which were rather stiff. Those two components left me with the impression that the creator really wanted to produce something moving and I could clearly feel this effort, whereas - to be honest - I also felt that the person who wrote the story didn't have enough life experience to touch such serious subjects. When the golden locket heart appeared I felt as if this was some kind of Harlequine turned into a game.
I am harsh, but I also believe that it's better to fall when trying to achieve heights than stand firmly on a 10cm hill.
Vel, I'm trying to download it again. I downloaded the game a couple nights ago, but when I tried to extract it, it said there were no files to extract?? But clearly the files were there...
--EDIT--
This is pissing me off. In every file that it tries to extract, it says "Unknown Method in blah blah" and at the end it says "No Files to Extract". WTF? Do I need a newer version? Can you make a winZIP version?

Goldmund: I accept your criticism, for it is constructive.
Snake: try downloading the latest version of winrar
QuoteSnake: try downloading the latest version of winrar
...or WinAce
Snake, did you have any luck opening it?
PS: 1000th post!
There's 1001 posts because there's a lot of arguing in the beginning ;)
Anyway, yes Vel, I finally got it :)
I'm stuck with the safe though...I know the code, I thought I was clicking the arrows in the right direction...but nothing seems to happen.
Oh, and there's no way out of the safe screen... When I got stuck I said the hell with it and went to bed... but for some reason I couldn't quit... I had to shut my computer off....

Listen to the sounds. Whenever you do something wrong, another sound plays.
And I think you can quit ANY AGS game with Alt+F4 in ANY sitiuation... not 100% sure, though... :P
You can use the menu, snake.
Ctrl-Alt-End
A new digital music pack has been released. You can download it from http://www.terranx.com/Vel/Musicpack.rar (Same link) It features enhanced tunes and samples of greater quality. the music pack is also of smaller size - 12,7 MB.
Edit: You do not need to redownload the game. Just extract the Music.vox file into the same directory as the game.
I think I'm gonna wait for Platinum Edition.
With voices and ultra cool new 3d gfx?!!?!?
Good idea!
/me starts working
Ok I`ve just finished to play this game and i thought maybe I would add my 2 cents worth by writing a full legnth review on the game so here goes:
Plot: Basically the story in a few words is A man (Andrew Barksdale) , his wife has died and his friend is near death but he wants Andrew to do something for him and you as Andrew need to accomplish your friends last request....
Art: The art was on an overall aspect ,OK. It had nothing great to speak of and i dont feel thatthis game was focusing on the art aspect of the game. The background art is pretty nice, nicely colored and has a certain style to it, However i didnt enjoy the art that was used to make the characters , i think that it was of a much lower quality than the rest of the art in the game and also the walk cycle of themain character isnt too great either because he doesnt really walk forwards or backwards.
Score : 6/10
Storyline: the thing i liked about the plot and storyline of this game is that it was a fresh and new idea and without spoling anything for potential players the end is very thought provoking and quite deep. There are certain aspects to the storyline that dont really make sense and have a place like the fact that the main characters wife was infertile , i did not really feel that this was really necessary as one of the elements in the story but for a short concise game it really had a very rich story.
Score : 8/10
Music: For those of you who want to install the 12mb odd music pack it is well worth it . I feel that it definitely adds to the atmosphere of the game rather than just an annoyance and I also think that the music is very suitable for the game because it is a serious type of music like the genre of the game.
Score : 9/10
Gameplay: I do understand that this game isnt designed to be a very "playable" game it rather serves as a interactive storybook , therefore i will judge the gameplay on the puzzles that were included and not lack thereof. The puzzles that were included i think in total about 4 if im not mistaken , where of a good degree of difficulty and where appropriate for the style of game that was being made
Score 7/10
Overall: I enjoyed the game as being a new concept in the genre of adventure games , it also adds a bit of a philosophical question and gets the player to think a bit of subjects outside the simple storyline of the game. Even though art has much to be desired I still feel that I can say with full honesty that i did feel the game was good but it definitely can make up for its downfalls without too much trouble.
Score: 30/40
Sorry about the spelling did this real quick.:)
Thanks asafii!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, even though it is not perfect. Thanks for your crits, I'll take them into consideration for my next releases. Thanks for playing the game again.
