Title: Background I have worked for some time
Post by: Rd27 on Wed 13/06/2007 18:04:36
Here is a background what I have worked a while. I may use it in my game.

What do you think? It is supposed to be a place in future, a little bit like fallout style, difficult to explain :).

It looks pretty good to me. Maybe the blood (is it blood?) on the wall looks a bit odd. I think the bright edges have a lot to do with it.

Also, maybe you should take advantage of Neole's upload space (check sticky topics in the critics lounge). For some reason, the image took a little while to load on image shack.

Sorry, but this background is very confusing.
- photos in a 3d environment is probably not the best idea
- the middle tree layer is in front of the house layer!
- the left tree layer has some outer shadow or a dark glow around it
- the hole in the roof makes the house look completely flat
- there is still some white around the top of the house, which is a dead give away that it is a photo and it does not look very appealing
- there are no hills or something in the background, which turns your house into a green oasis in a green-gray desert
- the sky color does not fit the green tones in my opinion

I agree with Cobra79 apart from the sky bit (unless it is not evening)
I think one of the problems you have here is the fact that the house, the car and the trees all have different light sources. In this picture the sun is setting at the rear of the picture so the front of your house should I think be darker somewhat.
Also there seems to be a white line on the hood/bonnet of the car and on the roof of the house try to merge it in abit more.
The house also seems to have an invisible part to it (the roof and the right hand side where a tree should be) Get rid of the hole in the roof
Quick paint job
Ive darkened the building a bit
Patched up the roof and walls (albeit not very well )
I cant do much with the pic coz I cant edit much without using layers sorry

I seem to have made it quite dark now but only use my image for referance
And my 3d work aint Brill but its the best i got
Hope it helps

Everything is nice, exept that it still lacks some depth. Add some sky tones to the front, some highlights to the front tree. Currently you have everything its separate colour. The thing with real nature is that everything reflects on everything, so the whole picture should share the same tones. House highlights a bit yellowish etc. Cars bumper is what annoys me the most, the far side of it should be darker and remember to share tones. Colours are big part of the atmosphere, you know, and its good to keep it all together.

Thanks everyone for the critics. It seems that I still have lot to learn :).

I will try to make the image better and send the improved version then.

i find when doing 3d its better to just use all 3d elements and not to mix with images (like for plants and cars and people etc)
