Okay this is my first watercolor picture and I was wondering if anyone here had some pointers or could help me learn to do this
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/watercolor.gif)
WOW! The only thing I would change is the moon. It is too yellow and the shawdow on the tree is bright too... Or maybe the sky needs to be lighter... I dont know, all depends on if it a sun or moon...
it was a moon
This seems to be a reoccuring problem with pictures of far-flung lands.... The palm trees always have massive trunks and tiny canopies, when it is actually almost the other way around - the trunk of a plam tree is very thin, and the leaves are huge. I'd say resize, but of course this is a watercolour.
So, nice work. I love the colours, you've got a kind of turquoise, and the moonshine effect is really quite stylish, but I feel the sand is too terracotta - it would be a more blue-green shade under the moon. Otherwise, nice. Maybe the moon would shine more off the top of the clouds.
OK, I would have made the moon lighter but it still looks good...
Flippy The trunk was thinner but it was resized in photoshop and slightly stretched sideways (but for the most part the palm trees here do have bigger trunks like the one in my picture but the trunks dont look like that)
and I have no Idea what terracotta is but I'll try to fix it :P
and evil: moon lighter, got it
:)
okay step 1 moon is lighter and less yellow
step 2 the picture is darker and an added blue tone
step 3 moon highlights clouds
well what do you think?

:o It's awesome! Make a game with that kind of graphics now!
that's a large improvement, nicely done. Terracotta is the colour of those tiles on the rooftops of houses in the mediterranean (and other places, but that's the quintessential example) - a sort of earth red colour.
The last one is a hugh improvement imo, but the lack of contrasts makes it flat n a bit dull.
To give it depth increase the contrasts n then reduce the saturation.
(for the most realistic/convincing results the objects should have less contrast n a colder colortone the further away they are from the point of view (not done in this version)

Btw, the contrast level in my example is delibrately set a bit high to clarify my point.
The great brightness of the moon came along when the contrast was increased and should be lowered.
(I also added a bit of turquoise to the pic as well as some yellow to give it a more monkey island kind of look)
:o MAGNIFIC! :o
Is that phallistic cloud intentional?
Heh... Thats Cpage for ya...
that cloud isnt smug or ignorent
wait what does that word mean
We's thinks it ares looks like teh pen1sh!!1 :)
:-\ which one I'm sorry I dont see it
but the one i did today has one I'll have to scan it later
and how is that like me ;)
That looks great, esp with the color changes!
oi another day another version or 2
what one do you guys like more?

or

Given that the sun is so big, the first pic has to be the one... the second one is waaay too dark.
Is it just me or does that palm tree look like a character from Dragonball?
Love the style... it would be great to see a whole game with this style!
but umm as established before it was a moon
Serves me right for only checking the "latest posts" and not reading the whole thread. Apologies to anyone upset by this!
Oh well, if it's a moon then the second one. Still love the style.
thanx I'm happy you like it :)
I'd say the first one of the most recent - the latter is just a little too dark for such a full moon.
Just to confuse you a bit more, cpage, I think the first one of the whole lot would be the one to work better in a game...
Nice work, btw!
well... depends weather your looking for the raging sea (if so, the second) or just calm cool night (if so, the first)
