Hey people, I was asked by the new AGS user Big Nerd to do music for his game. It's the same game with that awesome Miami Vice-style Cop sprite he did. I thought I'd go for a  funk style of music for the game and I was wondering what you guys thought of this piece I did. It's largely unfinished, I know, but I'll probably do a better version later today. This was made using a keyboard and Audacity. Here it is (sorry in advance for the crappy server):

Actually, despite not getting any crits on it, I've started working on an improved version, which I'll post tomorrow.

Ok.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you but it definately is not there yet!

Things that are good: The sounds, the bass, the vibrant sound (a little too pitchy but ok).

Things that are bad: The rythm! It is totally off. You need to find a sync youself! The drums are not even in sync with themselves. Mixing, again is rather off, The high pitched sound, although I like it, was a bit too loud.

The main thing that got me really thinking is the time issues, sync, and rythm. These really need to be worked on. Try to have a metronome or something on top of you...

Lol. I know. That was the crappy version. It's hard to have a metronome on while you're recording something via keyboard.  I'm going to post a better version right now... (and, if you listen carefully you can hear that Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile-style sound effect at the beginning of this song).

Well, I finally had some time to download and listen!

I listened to both, and I have to say I agree with Nikolas about rhythm. Although it's ok not to have a very regular beat, your instruments tend not to be in sync with each other. Did you record each instrument seperately or simultaneously? You might want to consider playing each instrument separately, using a silent (visual) metronome to make sure you're playing at the same speed, and then mix them together so that they all sync nicely.

On the good side, though, I agree that the mood jives nicely with the Miami Vice thing.
