Title: Having Walking Trouble
Post by: Geoff on Fri 02/03/2007 01:06:17
The very small sprite sheet so far of the character, named Random.

A short animation from the few sprites. You can ignore the background, I just put it in because white felt empty.

And here's some concept art of the character for comparison. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/geoff_ts/randomyep.png)

The trouble I'm having is that I'm not really sure how I can make his legs move smoothly into walking from the standing pose. I'm also not sure how to add the pipe into the sprite without it looking like crap-- it is quite important, by the way. Any help with that and even critique on what I have up here would be nice.

I take it from the way that his head faces that he will be walking off to the left side of the screen.

If this is the case, maybe just making his right leg (the one on our left) be the first leg coming forward in the animation would fix the problem.

Don't worry about his pose shifting, in an actual game a shift from the three quarter view you're using there to a side walk cycle will look fine.  Make a walk cycle and post it in this thread and I'll give you some help with it if you need it.

I'll post these again, for the heck of it.Ã,  (They seem to have been forgotten, despite getting no bad crits)..

Sure, they'll need resizing, and painting over, but hopefully it'll give you start in making your own cycle for that character.

02 and 04 are a joint pair, style-wise (though the speeds are off). 06 is a more natural walk.
If you really need a specific walk cycle, send me a PM after a week or two and I'll try and knock you up a template for that.  (Still unpacking after a move, and my tablet is missing a pen).

Those are great Renal Shutdown. If you had a side and back view similar to 06 that would be supreme!

Back view? Not really tried those before, I just assumed folk would work around it with coloring.  I guess I might as well have a stab at one.

As for a side view, I'll make one once I'm fully set up here.

Yeah, I guess the back isn't too different from the front. It's just that I'm going to have to make my first walkcycle soon, and I'd like all the help I can get!
