I've been doing a bit of editing on the sprites from TMC, and most turned out quite well, but I'm not satisfied about the up diagonal views.
Here's a gif showing my improvements on the side view. Sorry bout the crappy quality:

And here's the down diagonal view, which I constructed myself out of the front view:

And this is (don't laugh ::)) the up diagonal view:

I know:
-The legs are weird
-The arm is not right
-The head is...disproportional
I'm trying to get it right, but it's damn hard since I have no example or anything.
What dya'll reckon?
I made a couple of quick and dirty edits to give you some ideas.
The primary changes were to fix the perspective:
1. Raised the right shoulder and lowered the left, since his right foot is higher than his left.
2. made his butt look more like one and tilted it slightly as well
3. made his right hand less visible than the left
4. tilted his head somewhat to the left to make his head match the perspective of his body
5. brought his left leg inward (important) and moved his right leg downward just a bit. Bringing it inward even more might improve it further, but then you will need to adjust his upper body.
6. Turned his right foot to the left just a little

Hope this helps.
